Hey guys, I'm having this REALLY annoying problem where I'm playing Halo WITHOUT PS 2.0 effects it seems. I've forced PS 2.0 through the command line and through RivaTuner tweaking, but I still get the lame fade effect when picking up an active camo.

When I play at my friend's house with a 9800 Pro, he gets the Xbox-looking camo and a bunch of other flashy crap like the coronas on the Ghost, etc which I don't get!

All my drivers are up to date, my game is up to date.....I have no idea what's going on. I would love to play Halo with all the effects, but I feel like I'm playing it with DX8. :(

Quick specs...

Athlon-M 2600+ @ 2.3GHz
512MB Corsair XMS PC3700 (DC)
DFI NFII Ultra Infinity
Albatron GeForce 6800 GT @ 400/1100

Help?

Heyyo,

Hmm, I'm hearing a lot of probs with NVidia's new drivers with the game Halo... try downgrading your videocard drivers to an earlier version.....

Every single Geforce owner has this problem. It is clearly a software problem which Nvidia and Gearbox have refused to sit down and fix.

It's not all NVidia cards though. I'm currently using a (free) GeForce4 Ti 4600 and things seem to functioning well.

I have a Ti as well, but the cloak effect is just a transparent render, not that cool Xbox light bending cloak effect. I did just update my driver, I'll have to go and check that out again. I havn't played halo on PC for a few months

Heyyo,

yeah, the GF4 TI series was truly Nvidias best and most stable videocard series they put out there... these new ones seem to fluxtuate sometimes (quality and framerate), and pretty badly too in some games. the non-cloaking thing for the GF4 TI series? you sure? I'm sure those cards are DX8.1 and PS1.4.... the GF3's are, soo the GF4's should easily be so. Me bud had a ATI Radeon 8500 PRO before, and it could do the translucent, AVP style cloaking... your drivers might be acting up... you could always give the detanator drivers a go, since they were made for GF4 TI's and down...

Heyyo,

Hmm, havn't really looked into the new GF cards.. I know the 6600GT's a prety good card, worth the cash for it, and probably gonna be one of the best AGP cards out there... it's all PCI-X from now on pretty much...

I'll read up on that card you mentioned right now... hmm, no benchmarks yet, and I don't think that card's out yet dude, and from what I've read, it's gonna be PCI-Express, and not agp, so if you want it, make sure you've gotta new mobo with some pci-exress slots...

1) A 6800 is a few bucks more and is way better, get the 6600 GT if you got PCI Express because you get huge savings.

2) I'm sick of hearing this. PCI X and PCI Express are tottaly different things, the correct abbreviation for PCI Express is PCI E!!!

3) Thanks for making my 6800 GT feel like it sucks.

ATi cards are better for quite a lot of games, because they're a 'friendly' company who work with game developers like valve to get the maximum efficency and compatability from their drivers. Unlike the arrogant nVidia who only help out those who agree to advertise and endorse nVidia cards on their packaging or pre-game intro logos.

And ATI doesn't do that? Look at the back of your Half Life 2 box there is a ATI logo there...
