Oddly enough, the off topic forum is the most civilized of them all. Observe a typical excerpt from the Flood and compare it to one from New Mombasa *shudders*

The Flood:

Gamer #1: "I believe that bungie should have included the pistol in halo 2. It certainly had its positive aspects, such a creating a level playing field from the start."

Gamer #2: "I respectfully disagree with you. The pistol, while creating a level playing field, was overpowered and used to the exclusion of other weapons."

Gamer #1: "Indeed" *smokes bubble pipe*

New Mombasa

Gamer #1: TEH PISTOL ROXXORZZ TEH BIG 1!!!!!! I HATE YOU -blam!-LO 2 NOOBS! I KILL YOU WIT TEH PISTOL!!!

Gamer #2: YOU R SUCH A PISTOL WHORE!!! YOU SUCK NOW!!! HAHA UR MOM IS HOT. FOR NOT AGREEING WITH ME I'LL EAT YOUR BABIES AND LIGHT YOUR PETS ON FIRE!!!!!!

Here in the Flood, if we don't like halo 2, we say this.
"Halo 2 was a dissapointment."

Where as to New Mombassians, who would say:
"WTTF OMG hALO2 iS tehSUXXORS!!!!11!!1!1111!!!1!!1one1!1"

True, although the Septagon is also quite civilized, mainly because all the mods hang out there.

The Septagon, in my mind, holds the #1 spot, while the Flood takes the #2. Each of the other forums take the third spot. I really see no difference between them besides the number of people who post there. When the Flood forum was first introduced, I thought it would end up being the worst forum, both in content and in grammar. In actuality, almost the exact opposite has happened. I may have to eat my (written) words.

The Flood is practically Mecca compared to NM.

The Septagon is the most civilized due only to the fact that B.net and 7th column discussion is something (relatively) few people are actually interested in. I frequent that board, the flood and the Uground (although it is slowly falling into disarray) simply because there is no chance of coherent discussion anywhere else.
If the Septagon had a wider range of discussion I would never leave, but then again that would defeat the only failsafe keeping the unwashed masses out.

Hey...I think that if we find some civilized members of NM or any of the other disarrayed forums, we should invite them into The Flood to share the awesome. I know that there are SOME smart people floating around in New Mombasa...

The Flood is quickly becoming like every other forum except the Septagon. That is to say, 'Flooded' (pardon the pun) with a host of new people who have just signed up since Halo 2 came out and whilst not maliciously, completely disregarded the rules and ettiquette of this place, and have begun to simply post irritating and irrelevant Halo 2 stuff everywhere. EVERYWHERE. You chase him off and another comes to take his place!! Its the end of us all!!!!

Except the Septagon. How in Bobs name did the Septagon escape the madness?

Don't worry, most of the people that post all of the stupid crap leave in two,or three days.More keep coming and filling their places, but eventually, hopefully,we will have order again.

But at lest it is the (second) best of a bad lot.

You are right, though. The flood of new users has degraded each the forums' quality. The Flood and Septagon included.

There's huge amounts of topics locked in the Septagon almost every day. No public forums with a lot of traffic will ever be without spam and morons. It's natural human stupidity, and you can't stop it. Personally, I think the Bungie.net forums are doing quite well for the amounts of traffic received every day. The only real safe place would be the groups, or your own private forum.
