If you have a complaint about the game, just take a step back and remeber how lucky you really are to even be in possesion of it when compared to the millions of people suffering around the world with not even a roof over their heads.

First of all, mars is inside the milky way galaxy.
Master cheif, at the end of halo is not.
Master cheif is in a ship that is travelling at sub light speed.
The distance from anywhere outside the galaxy to mars would be several thousand light years.
A light year is a measurement of distance, which basicly means how much distance light would travel in a year.
Now if we go back to point number three and we realise master cheif is not travelling at the speed of light, and we add to that the fact that there are only two hundred years between halo and marathon, it is safe to assume, master cheif would not be able to get there in time, even if the ship was able to maintain power for that two hundred years and was travelling at precise co-ordinates to mars.
Also remember that that thermal image was not just randomly put down by bungie employees, it was part of the halo canon in which the forerunners were gathering data, and I think this was just to add depth to the idea that they were scanning the planets for life to put on the ark.
If this theremal was in fact put down deliberatly in order to give us a clue about a marathon tie in, that would suggest that going into an alternate universe was planned, but, if you remember, the colapse of the portal and the failed lighting of a halo was certainly not part of their plan.
Also consider that master cheif was heading into orbit around a planet which was quite clearly not mars and realise that no matter how logical your theory was these points are irefutable holes in it.Please take this into consideration by the way, dont just ignore it

For the record I would have thought it would be a bit crap of Bungie if the were to do some kind of tie in like that anyway, its to cheesy to be there style.

Im sorry to be quoting myself but i really want people to be looking at this, and i really want phearmaker to reply.

What is the point of posting here if your just gonna flame? I don't understand the world anymore.

I have absolutely NO IDEA about the Marathon series, I've never even read about the game. All I know is that it was made by Bungie way back, and it had some similaritys with Halo, such as the helmet on the dude, some enemies looked like Brutes, and there was a skull like in Oddball.

If this theory is true (and I don't see a reason why it wouldn't be) then I have sme majour brushing-up to do withing the Marathon series. Gulp.

  • 07.31.2008 4:38 PM PDT

You guys keep on saying that marathon and Halo are very similar so that must mean that master cheif will be in the Marathon universe on Halo 4 maby right? Well wrong. Havent you thought that maby the reason why Halo and marathon are so similar is because they were both created by bungie? Trust me i want it to happen so that the cheif will be in the marathon universe but its not really that plausable. The reason why marathon and halo are so similar is because bungie made them both.

Ok let's say you are completely right and marathon is the series they want to let continue.
If master chief didn't travel through time how is he supposed to live in stasis for another 200 years?.

Even if Marathon continues it will start with a funeral of MC being buried somewhere.

  • 08.01.2008 8:37 AM PDT

i dont know about any marathon connection but there is a theory going around, based off of clues left in the SI wallpapers that the chief and the legendary planet are in the Pleiades nebula.

here is the thread.

This theory has to be fullproof! [/sarcasm]

Well I think it all mighty coincidental. I mean Marathon and Mars.

The theory sounds good, though, I'll be fine with whatever comes next for the Chief and Cortana.

The 11th Commandment: All of the above does not apply to Chuck Norris.

The theory is pretty sound, but I would like to make 1 suggestion.

I think that if the Marathon universe and the Halo universe were, in fact, alternate universes, there would be some changes.

As it is, there are still humans, we still use the same technology, and the nomenclature of the planets are the same.

You said that the Ark was outside the universe. If the Chief and Cortana were sent to Mars by mundane means in the time span that they were, they would have to be moving very fast. If we take special relativity time dilation into account (first bullet), then time would have been moving much slower for the Chief and Cortana then for the rest of the universe. This would explain how 200 years had passed by.

By all rights, the Chief should have been destroyed if the Ark had collapsed when the ship was half through. The only other option that I can think of is that the Arbiter's side made it through the normal way, and was instantly back at Earth. The Chief was on his way out, but the portal collapsed, and the Chief sqeezed through, and was sent at very high speeds to Mars.

This thread is still alive? I remember posting in it before it had even two pages.

Next thing I know I'm edited to the front page, what is going on?

Could someone fill me in on what the hundreds of pages have been about? Honestly I don't think I could possibly read all of that.

I have no idea.

What time does the 3OClock Train arrive?

Also, before I forget, we should use all this collective brain power for a higher purpose and answer a better question instead.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

  • 08.03.2008 12:13 AM PDT

Were it so easy.

The covenant is not destroyed. The prophets are dead however they had atleast hundreds of planets under thier control. The Earth is safe so like any good Hero MC is headed to where he is needed most. Fate is a beautiful thing and only reveals itself over time. Most likely he was moved through slip space to an Elite colony or home world, after all, if you were the Covenant wouldn't your first priority be to eliminate the threat behind your lines. They have lost Earth for the time being , and thier leaders are toast. They are confused and disorganized, after all the prophet of Truth took the Great Journey alone for all they know.Just because the fanatical leaders are gone doesn't mean the fanatics cease to exist. Marathon Inspired Halo thats why there are similarities , why wouldn't Bungie want to get you "The Fan" interested in it's previous works.

Look at the legendary cut scene, Look where the light originates from, Then look at that picture.
You are looking at an early mars, From the game marathon, With the sun eclipsing Luna, Which creates the big flash of light.

I know someone will read your post and state for the thousandth time that Bungie has stated that Halo and Marathon are in no way related blah blah blah... BUT, how is this Mars? From what I know, Marathon was like, a couple hundred years later than Halo's timeline... Also, how could this planet be Mars when the Ark is so close by, and not to mention Earth being right down the road...I don't think humans ignored something like the Ark if it was so close by ya know? Also, if that flash is indeed a sun, it is blue, and much hotter than our sun...

I think though that I may have misunderstood what you were trying to get across so...I will wait for your response hehe :-)

He's right. The Ark is located outside of the galactic disk/halo in order to be out of the effective range of the Halo's should they all be fired. And with the blue sun thing, its just not possible for it to be the same star. A star either starts out as a blue star or a yellow one.... it cannot go from yellow to blue, as that would be a huge increase in the temperature of the star, and would shorten it's lifetime considerably. Also, because of the higher temperature, the earth, in order to maintain a livable atmosphere would have to be much farther away from the star to achieve the correct temperatures. Because of the increased distance, eclipses wouldn't be the same as we see today, because the ratio of size-distance would be skewed.

OMG I hope not.. I hate time travel and multiverse sci-fi! Its too complicated and makes stories meaningless because every prob can be fixed by going back in time again and all undone by something else going back in time undoing it ect. With multiverses it adds way too many spin offs {like DC comics complications}. I would rater have him marooned some place by some forerunner plaint maybe even meeting some or there mysterious enemy the Precursors survivors. I still want to know why the grave mind says some of his curious comments during Cortona and halo. I think the next game should focus on the marines like some rumors have stated and save the what happened to chief for later or combine it and have the marines picking up the beacon years later and searching for him or his body unwrapping more of the mysteries of the forerunners/flood/Precursors along the way and fighting a new enemy or surviving zealots of the leaderless covis. The whole portal collapsing thing could simply have put him some were else misfiring were it was supposed to go because of the collapse maybe a different galaxy or some where else remote. Maybe this next game could cover some of the stuff from ghosts of Onix while its at it... heake maybe they could even show some things with the little known UNSC Army maybe play as a solder. Id gladly take anything other then time travel or multiverse stories.. I don't expect such a thing from bungie, theres gotta be a better story then those cheesy over used sci-fi concepts.

there is a few seconds more in legendary where you clearly see what looks like a forerunner plaint.

i have to say it does seem a bit cheesy for bungie to tie together it's previous works.
I just hope we one day have an answer!
