There are many links between Halo and Maraton.

The main 2 are that, Marathon Man had MJOLNIR armor, and the second is that the symbol is there.

But Bungie has said on many occasions, They are not connected. Different universes.

Four shots, four kills, reload, repeat. This is the work of a sniper.

Sorry JordanJ, but the way you stated that only supported his theory further. You just said different universes, which is what his theory is about. Chief somehow fell into the Marathon universe, and people just said a wormhole closed off their half and it got lost.

Most people seem to think that the Ark was located beyond the outer rim of the Milky Way galaxy, but this is incorrect.
The galaxy that we can all see from the Ark on Halo 3 is in fact a distant barred spiral galaxy simply called NGC 1300. This galaxy is over 61 million light away from Earth.
I came to this assumption by comparing images of various barred spiral galaxies, and this one looks the most similar to the one in Halo 3.

Guilty Spark himself stated that the Ark was 262,144 ly from the galactic core. That's our galaxy's core. The Forerunners were not intergalactic: they were neither Tier 0 on their own scale (from the little booklet that came with Halo 3) or Type III on the Kardashev scale.
Don't go around saying everyone else is wrong because you looked at pictures.

Perhaps the Ark was just facing that galaxy. The guy said nothing about the Forerunner being able to travel to that Galaxy, only that you can see it from the ark.

Oh come on. He said the Ark wasn't near the rim, then he said the galaxy filling the night sky was NGC 1300. It's pretty clear what he means. Don't defend the stupid people.

  • 01.02.2009 7:52 PM PDT

The milky way is not a barred spiral galaxy, but the one that you can see from the Ark is a barred spiral galaxy. The milky way is a spiral galaxy.

Don't ever be alone!

A very smart and WELL THOUGHT OUT theory...all with good evidence...but i doubt Bungie themselves could even figure that out...LOL

But the legendary ending pics of the planet...it was either METAL or just really shiney due to the sun...so your theory could be really accurate...or completely wrong....

The Bestiarum says that the Forerunner were not intergalactic. Guilty Spark makes a point that they are about twelve thousand light years out of range of the Halo network, not millions. It's artistic license.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I think it is a Precursor Rainbow World, Onyx is gone...You can't argue that. It isn't Reach, it isn't Sangheilios because it is outside of the Milky Way.

Victory By Any Means

Like the many that have posted, I also like this theory, as its the best Halo/Marathon connection I've seen so far. However there are still some things that bug me. I've played through Marathon, Marathon: Durandal, and I'm currently working on Marathon: Infinity, so I know a good part of the trilogies storyline. Also since Marathon's story is so incredibly deep and difficult to understand (practically puts Metal Gear Solid's to shame) I did some research on the story line. On the website http://marathon.bungie.org/story/ the timeline mentions the dead soldiers that are recycled into Battleroids and used in a war between two governments on the asteroid of Onicis 492 in 2194. Supposedly this is the origins of the Cyborg, which is clearly well before Master Chiefs own origins. There is much more info on the site about the Cyborg, some even speculate that he is the "Special Forces agent, capable of surviving the assault of thousands of strange creatures." Even Durandal says: "But you were dead a thousand times. Hopeless encounters successfully won."

Basically if Master Chief shows up in the Marathon universe, it throws off a lot of the Cyborgs supposed origins.

Instead of making a -blam!- novel about your theory how bout you sum it up into about 2 paragraphs or so, because i'm pretty sure not everyone has time to sit for 40mins at there computer reading about some kids theory.

I think this is a thorough analysis and is a completely plausible explination and you would think that a slipspace portal uncontrolably colapsing in on itself could create enough energy to open a local trans-universal rift.............. ( yah i know complete giberish)
