I'll support your theory with one fact. It was mathematically proven that there is the potential for at least 6 other dimensions to exsist. Although explaining this to a bunch of kids who are Halo fans would confuse the crap out of them and could, potentially be bad for business and a lot of people overlook that. What will make bungie the most money?
Indeed, although the multiple dimensions theory mathematics works with 10 dimensions, and I believe 26 as well. The 10 dimension theory deals with superstring theory and M-Theory. Neither of which I plan to go into great detail about. But, according to Everett's Many Worlds theory, all of the realities(multiverses) exist simultaneously, but are completely separate. Now, in quantum physics, particles aren't particles at the subatomic level, they are waves of probability. Upon observation, these waves of probability are collapsed into one specific state. This is how the infinite amount of alternate universes can exist; as waves of probability that are not collapsed by the act of observation. So, while the multiverse theory could be correct(just to the fact that a game doesn't have to abide by the laws of quantum physics), I personally wouldn't put my money on it. Besides, while traveling through slipspace, space is just condensed and can be traveled over much more quickly. It would basically be like traveling in the third dimension while existing in the second. It's just like you exist on a "piece of paper" and that "paper" is folded so you can reach the other side of it, without traversing the entire paper. So, the likeliness of chief being in another universe, is sadly, even more unlikely(at least in my opinion).
And, I do like the whole mars thing, and how it relates to IRIS, and everything.

something strange just felw into my minde...(a question)
universe 1:
Lets call this the universe where halo takes place. We all know that it takes place on earth and the ark. Lets just look at earth, because earth is in this universe.... so logicaly, mars is in it aswel -as it hasnt been dragged away"?"-
universe 2:
The different universe... where marathon takes place. Stated by blizz that it takes place in a different universe. Now what troubles me is, (as i only read comments) that the marathon(the ship) is made out of a moon of mars. But doesnt that mean it takes place in the same universe? I mean if they makes a ship out of a moon of mars, while we know mars is near earth (like in halo3) --> means it takes place in the same universe after all? *pain to my head* :P
Yes, if we accept this multiverse theory, then while in one universe everything is like it is now(or rather 2552, whatever), and in the other universe it could basically be the same, however different. So, the mars in the "Marathon" universe, would be mars, but not "our" mars. You see?
