what happens if the sentinals think half a ship with a 1 man army and an AI might be a threat and shoot it down with that beam thing.
soz havent read book in a while

I reckon they'll be fine. Cortana will find a way to interface with the Sentinels before they attack, and they'll help out. Failing that, the Sentinel's scans will probably pick up Chief inside the pod, and they'll recognise him as a Reclaimer because of the armour he's STILL wearing. Remember in the book, I think it was that Spartan III trainee Ash (was that his name?) is getting chased by that sentinel, and it stops before attacking and scans him. I think it actually asks him something in a strange offshoot of something like Latin while it scans him. When Ash responds in english it tries to compensate with a quick language adaptation, but Ash doesn't have the right response. Here, just found the page:

'What do you want?'
'Fhejelet 'Pnught Juber.'
'I don't understand...'
'Fhejelet non sequitur, now?'
'I got part of that, Non sequitur, that's Latin right?'
"Security Protocols enabled'
"I understood that'
'Ring offensive system activated, shield in countdown mode, exchange proper counterresponse reclaimer.'
"I don't want to hurt you."
'Non sequitur, reclassification of targets as non-reclaimers. Aboriginal subspecies. Collect for further analysis- else neutralise as possible infection vector."

Meh, It's free, and less than 100mb. Why not? I'll probably play it later, and get more into it. I just found a patch which updates the visuals, so I'm gonna do that.

Just downloaded the first Marathon, so I guess I'll get myself aqquainted with the story......

tried that, didn't help me. I think though it might have been because I was thinking more about how much it reminded me of a happy medium between doom2 and duke nukem3D. Most of the time, I was soo freakin lost...

I got to the point where I said to myself "you know what? I'm just going to go with what Bungie themselves said about how the story lines are not related"

Yeah, I just decided I don't like it. The doors look like walls, and I got pwned by the aliens with the Star wars esque staffs.

is it worth downloading?

If you've got nothing better to do, yeah it's worth it. But make sure you've got your patience hat on. There's a lot of switch seeking to be done.

haha, yeah the 6th just came out. It's about Grey team, a trio of Spartans in the old Mark 4 armour sent out to do guerilla work behind enemy lines. Cpt Keyes gets a big part too.

Worry not. Microsoft know Halo is easy money, they will churn out games, hopefully good ones, for years. It is unknown, however, what Bungie will do.

This is true. I hope that M$ realizes that no one does a Halo FPS like Bungie.

They already have Frank O'Connor on their team for Halo Chronicles.

I've read all of the books and played all of the Halo games to date. From this I can probably guess that the Ark is just beyond the outer rim of the Milky Way galaxy, but the galaxy that you see from the Ark was not the Milky Way.
The one seen from the Ark was a barred spiral galaxy, and the Milky Way is just a spiral galaxy. So in that case it could just be that fact that we were looking at another galaxy as the Ark was facing away from our galaxy.

So this brings us to the next question. Where is the Chief?
I think the general consensus floating around, is that the section of the Forward unto Dawn with the Chief and Cortana inside, was only transported a along part of the way. I believe that they lie along the path of the portal between the Ark and Earth, but will either be on the very edge of the galaxy, or they lie just inside the rim.

As to the planet that we all saw at the end of Halo 3, well it could be just about anything really, but one thing is for sure, it's NOT ONYX. That planet was completely destroyed. Leaving us with a load of sentinels floating around.
It could be another form of shield world, or even a planet with living, breathing Forerunners on it, but then again it could be a distant Covenant planet, a link to the Precursors, or something far more disturbing, like a world full of Flood.

Whatever it is, I hope that in the end, the Chief and Cortana make it safely back to Earth, and meet up with the rest of the Spartans somehow, ready for their next mission.

Best, and deepest theory, other than the OP's, I've heard.

  • 02.10.2009 2:42 AM PDT

Cheers Wolverfrog.

I suppose we'll only really find out when and if Bungie make a sequel of some sort. I don't think any other company would get the respect of the fans if they tried making another Halo game where you play as the Chief.

There's simply too much of a storyline in the Halo universe to just shut up shop and call it a day on the Chief. There are still a LOT of unanswered questions.

Plus, the Master Chief is a Spartan, nothing can match that. And I don't think ODST will have much of a sci fi aspect, compared to th epic story of the trilogy.

(Unless we can play a game as a Spartan III)

Ok, I have decided to do my own theory.

Mendicant Bias has wanted to atone for his past sins. He stated in the terminals he would use the Master Chief to do this.

My opinion is that Mendicant Bias manipulated the portal as The Chief's half of the ship headed through it, reprogramming the slip space co-ordinates to the planet we say.

Also, perhaps when accesing the terminals, Mendicant Bias transferred himself into the Chief's armour, and concealed himself from Cortana.

Now, my theory is that the planet is a Forerunner world, and the forerunners have managed to stay alive by sealing themselves in stasis pods, perhaps mini slip space portals.

When the Chief lands on the planet, he locates the Forerunners and wakes them up.

From there on, I'm hoping the story follows the same idea Maxrealflugel has in his story.

it is impossible for bungie to deni that there isnt gonna be another game, because bungie is clearly hiring people and ODST is mostly done

They have said that, other than the mythic map pack and ODST, they are working on another, secret project. I hope it is Halo 4.
