We should assume not as a community that this is a right or wrong theory, but instead question the moral plausibility as whether or not Bungie would even toss Master Chief into a story line that they developed so many years ago. Here are some of my ideas on why they might do so:
1. Forerunner Religious Evolution- Perhaps the Forerunners descended from the peoples on the planet Marathon, or at least their belief system.
2. Covenant Significance- It is hard fact that the Covenant is not one single species, but rather, an assimilation of multiple warring races that share a common non-theistic belief. Where this belief descended from, no one is ENTIRELY sure. Perhaps this new take on the franchise will embrace where the Covenant cult started, and why.
3. Forerunners Exist- We know that the Forerunners died building and defending the legendary Halo Rings from the hellish Flood Hordes. However, assuming that there has not been, at any point in time, any human occupation in the galactic region that Master Chief so idly sits today, we could assume that maybe Chief is residing over a planet where some of the Forerunner population sought some temporary refuge away form the Flood hostiles.
Then again, maybe we will never know. Perhaps, like me, there are some people who don't WANT to know what really happened. There are some things that are beyond human capacitation, and my dear Halo Allies, I believe that this may very well be one of those things. And, just to defend myself, I am aware that my theory isn't truly scientific, and may be flawed, but I do very well hope that anyone and everyone who reads this will understand that it is a much more philosophical view on the whereabouts, or even physical existence, of the supposed continuation of the Master Chief story, and whether or not it lives on in this ashen shadow of a now-past Halo Universe.
