Humans are forerunners, and at some point as earth went around the milkey way it was out side the rings fireing range. Why the sheild worlds have flood on them is that during the forerunner flood war, the sheild worlds where like forts, but when the flood attacked it forced the forerunners in side where they died from starveation or by the rings. i too think that mc is flooting around onyx, but i seen were some one write that sentinals that form the planet fall aport, i havn't read the book yet. if it was mars wouldn't the unsc pick out his transponder singnal or get picked up by arby? Also cortona know where they were.

Seriously people, its just a game. Its not like he will magically come back and show up at your house with cookies (although i would like that).

But yeah, can somebody please explain why you are looking for him? (in a short, honest, reply please)

'Cause predictions are fun! Looking for little hints in between the cracks are even funner..er..

Really, this kind of thing is quite frequent. When a character gets put on a bus, you just have to guess when the bus comes back, or where its going.

The connections between the games is frighteningly real (though the storyline connection is only theoretical.) Also if you go to the most recent weekly update, download the first powerpoint there and go through to things cut from Sandbox. One is called the "Guardian" and looks frighteningly similar to the Compiler.

If you have a complaint about the game, just take a step back and remeber how lucky you really are to even be in possesion of it when compared to the millions of people suffering around the world with not even a roof over their heads.

I think that if everyone were to look at my earlier post (which I cannot be bothered quoting) they would realise that this theory does not work, regardless of how good it seems. As I often like to say, defend your fort before attacking your enemy's.

We believe that the universe is unbounded: this is not the same as infinite: the 2-D surface of a sphere, wrapped around a 3rd dimension, has a finite size, but has no end. If you start off in a given direction on the surface of a sphere, you could return to your start point without having to turn around -- you simply go all the way around. But wouldn't that mean the universe has an escape velocity like the earth?

if this were true, the arbiter and chief in different universes thing, there would be a problem, how can you explain the fact that the ship entered a portal from one LOCATION to the other, rather than an extradimensional portal...slipspace is simply a collective term for the seven non-visible infinitesimal quantum dimensions used for faster-than-light travel. Quantum does not mean multiuniversal. I would believe that when the ship divided, the chief and cortana simply exited slipspace early, and ended up at a location in between the ark and earth, most like what you refer as to near the small Magellanic cloud.

(I don't think universe travel is possible in Halo. Even with all the forerunner relics mentioned and used, none of them had dimensional displacement capabilities, only Slipspace.
Even Onyx, the Shield Installation was a Slipspace Bubble, nothing more. There is nothing I can think of that indicates the Forerunners had any knowledge of inter-dimensional/inter-universal capabilities.) thx Crucio for the quote

The planet in question (thx Cruise117) is most likely a forerunner object, possibly a shield world or micro dyson sphere. If this is correct, the forerunners then play a part in what happens to the Master chief next as there may be a possible encounter between him and the MC. However, the dependency of what happens next also depends on how long its been since the split of the Forward onto dawn and the legendary clip, in which cortana may have achieved rampancy, therefore meaning shes one pissed off lady which needs to be deleted.

Theres also a possibility that 05-032 Mendicant Bias played a part in where the MC ended up, as he does say hell use the MC to atone for his past sins. Which means that either mendicant wishes for us to awaken the forerunners (possibly concealed in stasis pods) or another, greater purpose bungie is waiting to release in the distant future. Not halo 4, but a new trilogy entirely

Finally, bungie clearly stated, halo and marathon are NOT connected, not here, not now, not ever...anybody disagree with me?

You are talking about a game hear right?

  • 04.05.2009 5:23 AM PDT

Success above all else - that is the Agent's creed.
"You and your enemy both live on the same time, all you must do to live longer is to relieve him of his." ~ Master Agent Ombre Dela Mort

You know the great thing about fiction? You can do whatever you want. Their next game could have MC taking a ship to some ailen planet, called marathon, to pick up some nineteen armed aliens, only to take them to kill all the dinosaurs on mars.
*too much 'the whitest kids you know'*
My point is, they can say what they want and do what they want. They said no Halo 3. But I've played several hundred games on it so far. All they have said for certain is that MC will not be a main character. Derr- anyone heard of secondary characters?
I'll just wait for their press release that'll come out sometime after ODST. (we know there will be one.)

*I've now thoroughly insulted you as the post warned you would be for speculation.

interesting... but if the chief has been frozen for 200 years, that means Cortana is dead. "Smart" AI's last only 7 years.

  • 04.05.2009 9:08 PM PDT

I don't think Chief is in another universe. On the level, The Ark, you can see what might be our galaxy in the sky. So maybe Chief is in the same universe, and it took him a while to drift towards our galaxy. And when he gets there, Things have deffenantly changed. But someone should have recieved Cortana's beakon by then, well there's another mystery. But anyway Cortana did say they might wait for years, which is the 200 years he sits there. Or maybe we're all wrong and it's a comepletely different planet in a completely different setting. Maybe once we find out where Master Chief really is, Bungie will reveal something to us. Where's Master Chief?

stormcrow's 1st post (occams razor etc) is d most plausible, besides bungie loves d marathon series (1st child nd all dat) its not gonna bastardise it just 4 d sake of linking it to d halo universe and bungie is not gonna forgo basic physics aswell, so crossing universal boundries and time travel is out.

AND didnt bungie say they want to explore the forerunners a bit more, that and mendicant bias's comments in the last terminal do make something involvin the chief and d forerunners the most likely.

as for cortana she cud b like d rest of the ai's and expire or she could be different and live much longer

humans arent forrunners. in the games it states that the humans and the forrunners were biologicaly very like each other but the forrunners werent entirly human and earth was never out side of the milky way. the milky way is a spiral galaxy and our solar system lies in one of its arms and when the halos fired earth was hit but no senteint life was there it was back on the ark.
well i think in the book Contact Harvest the covie AI (its a forrunner AI) says that humans are its makers or the forrunners. and the earth could of been outside the range of the rings because the milkyway is a constantly moveing galaxy in an ever exspanding universe so not only has the milkyway had a chance to exspand a bit but it is moving (although verry verry slowly from our standpoint)
