the end where kurt activates the 6FERNIS nukes and causes the planet of onyx to be vaporized leaving the micro dyson sphere.

I'm not bad, I'm Useless

Who cares. He not real. You want to really know were he is at. He in the minds of the Bungie employees and wherever they want to put him. They can make a new game saying master Chief woke up 2000 years later inside a local walmart and People will still buy the game no matter how ridiculous it may sound.

Would you like to elaborate on how it beats the hell out of it?

We now know from the halo encyclopedia that the forerunners left the galaxy after the halo activation.Mendicant Bias wants to show the forerunners that he has changed by keeping him safe and sending him somewhere. The Ark is outside of the galaxy, the forerunners left the galaxy, and chief is heading to a shield world that in space that doesn't seem to be held by covenant or UNSC.

so please Regail me.

Once again I think this theory is somewhat plausible but I think it would be a mistake to simply go into marathon.

first off, there is alot of unfinished business in the halo universe, like the sparten IIs and IIIs in the micro-dyson sphere. even if onyx is destroyed the slipspace bubble would have protected him; so leaving this many loose ends would ruin the story. its good story telling to leave alittle mystery but not that much
second, the portal on the ark and on earth would likly be a very large very advanced slipspace hole so if it collapsed the arbitor would be the more likely to be sent to another universe, not john, he would simply be left behind.
finally don't mistake the large number of marathon refrences to evidence. Its likely that bungie wanted a huge marathon refrence for the finally for the hardcore marathon fans, since the game did change alot since combat evolved. remeber that marathon was bungies most succsessfull game since halo.

It would make the most sense.

Mendicant Bias sabotaged the Portal's systems during the Forerunner/Flood war - so he has some degree of control over the destination(s).

He speaks of wishing to atone for his sins against his Masters in the final Terminal, John is a Reclaimer - inheritor of all the Forerunners left behind. Since the Forerunners left the galaxy after the Halos were fired, it can be assumed that they still exist in some shape or form and Bias wishes to show his atonement by sending a Reclaimer to them.

Also, the planet has the "shield and sword" glyph on it.

Theres no evidence of that because the Shield and Sword symbol was never actually shown in Halo canon, only described, and it wasnt a very detailed description..

Hmm.. That is pretty convincing. Although it doesnt rule out a Marathon theory because that symbol is commonly believed to be a "Shield World" symbol but it has been used on a lot of Forerunner technology and doesnt have a definate meaning (well i guess until Bungie drops the bomb on this..), just as the Marathon symbol has been which also appears on the surface of the planet.

''Halo'' 4 the win

Don't you think they would've found the Chief a little earlier if he was that close to earth?

  • 11.30.2009 2:35 AM PDT

We believe that the universe is unbounded: this is not the same as infinite: the 2-D surface of a sphere, wrapped around a 3rd dimension, has a finite size, but has no end. If you start off in a given direction on the surface of a sphere, you could return to your start point without having to turn around -- you simply go all the way around. But wouldn't that mean the universe has an escape velocity like the earth?

Yes, but since its the Marathon universe, therefore the search would never happen

Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth in single combat. And Morgoth came.

6 nukes wouldn't have the power to vaporize the entire sentinel population. In fact, if you read the book, the Prowler detects the nukes going off, and then the sentinels begin to fire at everything in orbit. That is when they leave.

Onyx is still there...

ill quote from the book "Onyx shattered and the surface exploded into space" it did explode and all that was left was the inner structure made out of the drones. their is no planet onyx just drones left.

I'm going out on a limb to see if I understand this.
(earth)<-(Arb. +*portal collapse*+ Mas. Chief.)--<------ (The Ark)

Mc didn't make it through fast enough, so it tore his half from the original hull. I picture it as mc's half running out of speed and slowing down, while the arbiter keeps flying through space getting back while Mc gets dropped off halfway there.

Your kinda on the right track; except in space there is no friction, so MC and his half of "Forward Unto Dawn" will continue in the same direction at a constant speed until either they crash into a large spacial body, or are saved by UNSC marines.... there is the chance that reminants of the Covenant Factions could still be quite angry about the outcome of the war, and find MC.
MC went missing around 2553, as per the "Believe" ads he is still not found in the very late 2500's. So Cheif definetly spends atleast 30 yrs in space, if he hasnt died yet.
Hopefully we will get to see MC again in a couple years to see what happens, but till all we can do is inquire and make amazing theories, good job everyone.
ps- If i were to go with one of the other theories though it would definetly be the Onyx one. It ties in much more smoothly and will make more sense to newcomers to the Halo series.

We fight for that which is lost in the hope that what is lost can be found.

Makes sense to me. Onyx did explode so thats a theory down the drain. And security armor does bare a resemblance to the armor in marathon. Plus if you find all the terminals you get the marathon man achievment, that might have been a clue from Bungie.

Since he is near the planet, the planet's gravity would keep him in orbit around the planet. If he was going really fast then maybe he had enough speed to escape the gravitational pull of the planet, and in that case he would be drifting in space forever. If not he would just keep going around the planet.

Onyx = BOOM,

In 2552, Onyx's Sentinels were roused to action by the standby signal from Installation 05, instigating the Battle of Onyx and revealing Onyx's true nature. The AI Endless Summer took command of all military personnel on Onyx to immediately defend Zone 67 per General Order 98.93.120, after Onyx's Sentinels first started to attack the SPARTAN-III's. Endless Summer sent Kurt a flash transmission sending attached files directly into Kurt's retina. An explosion stopped Endless Summer's transmission before Kurt could finish scanning the new threat.

At the conclusion of the battle, Onyx was effectively destroyed, although not before Bloody Arrow was declared and Blue Team, Team Saber, Team Katana, Dr. Halsey, and SCPO Mendez escaped to the safety of the Shield World.
