Okay, yeah its not uncommon for developers to put in nods to their old games in newer ones. Like the Marathon symbol appearing on the Pillar of Autumn in the first Halo. And by official Bungie time lines, Marathon actually takes place 250 years after the events of Halo. (and yes for those who are quick, I am pulling this from Game Informer, but with good reason)What's everyone think? Both main characters have cybernetic enhancements, both wear Mjolnir armor, both have AI companions and so on. Did Bungie just dust off an old story and create some kick ass game play to create a gaming sensation that rivals mario? There have always been ties between HALO and Marathon and there are several in HALO 3. In fact once you get all the achievements you can play with the marathon armor in multiplayer and if you read all the terminals (which tie the 2 series together with RAMPANT A.I. being the common thread) in the game you get the achievement "MARATHON MAN".
One theory: The guy from Marathon IS Master Chief. If you've read the books, you know some Spartans get shot through time, so it's possible.
Listen to me, Marathon is NOT set after Halo 3, and Master Chief is NOT the marathon cyborg.
I will tell you why.
In the Marathon universe, man's first encounter with aliens was in the 1990's, by the American government.
In the Halo Universe, man's first encounter with aliens is on "Harvest".
If Marathon is set 250 years after halo 3, then what you are saying is that human beings encountered alien life before encountering the covenant.
In Marathon the cyborgs are made up of dead soldiers, that means before someone became a cyborg they would have to die. The prognostic in Marathon is a dead soldier brought back to live with alien technology.
Therefore the Master Chief would have to have died to be the Marathon cyborg....last time i checked the MC is not dead.
If you have done your research on Marathon you would know these things.
