Bungie.

This is true because I have read all of the novels and in some of them it mentions ships dissapearing after slipspace malfunctions (perhaps they also landed in the marathon universe) so it is very possible that MC and cortana have landed in the marathon universe, plus the main character in marathon can travel through different universes.

There is no travel between game universes in Halo, there never has been and never will be. The fact that ships disappear is because their slipspace drives can prematurely abort the jump and end up in the middle of nowhere.

Different "universes" and game universes are not the same thing. 343 Industries run the show now, they don't own the Marathon IP so the chances of them ending up there is null and void. Please don't make stupid posts with no evidence.

No idea why, the post hasn't been updated and the information in the OP is extremely old-hat now. This theory is outdated and impossible.

No, it doesn't. Why do people continue to kid themsleves that this is a good theory? It is not.

U mad?

I feel enlightened lawlz. But seriously I didn't think about Bungie owning the Marthon IP. I mean I was against this theory since the beginning, all the clues just being what Bungie does. But I never factored that into account, I've been trying to argue slipspace concepts, the Dyson Sphere, Onyx's architecture, Reach's history and geography (yes, some people in this thread actually believe the mystery planet is Reach...seriously they've argued it...it's actually pretty funny to read, some of the posts in favor or Reach and the authors' defense/evidence for this belief) and how our hero from this series will always be the Master Chief and only the Master Chief. But this right here completely makes all these arguments irrelevant.

i want LIVE!!!

very nice you know your stuff. it has to be the best theory ive heard.

  • 08.20.2010 5:53 PM PDT

ive heard most of the thoughts and theories... my only theory i could come up with is that that is possibly the shield world where blue team, Dr. Halsley (probaly misspelled) and some spartan three's are dont get mad if you disagree just putting it out there

  • 08.20.2010 9:28 PM PDT

I just hope they continue master chiefs story I mean we know he is alive so it's not like they can just forget him It's like bungie is avoiding chief

And what the f*** why in the world would they put master chief and cortana in the marathon universe it makes absolutley no sense unless that is where their story ends and I extremely doubt that so forget that theory it is not remotley possible if they plan on continueing the story

So bungie or whoever it is taking over the HALO ( not marothon) universe please continue his story soon please

Marathon series.

Pay no attention to the OP's theory, Glatix. It's years outdated and other sources clearly disprove it.

Heres a couple theories I was interested in. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Legendary_Planet
Now my favorite theory is that the planet you see behind the ship is the forerunner home world. I believe this because of two reasons, first of all in halo legends Origins, when Cortana is talking about the forerunner home world you can see many symbols on the planet. During the legendary ending of halo 3 you can see the marathon symbol and the seventh column symbol on the planet. Plus when the sunlight appears from behind the eclipse you can clearly see that the planet has a lot of metal structures on its surface.

Cortana never says that's the Forerunner homeworld, it's just a planet they once inhabited. It also has a natural sun and a small moon, 2 things we don't see in Halo 3's LE.

It's said that the planet shown in Origins is the place to Flood first attacked, that makes it G617-g1 from the Terminals.

I don't understand why people keep asking other people if they are a sugary substance used to spread on bagels and toast.

I though it was obvious, he is in space.

I got the following spew of the game Marathon form this source
http://marathongame.wikia.com/wiki/Mjolnir_Recon_number_54

The AI it talks about is Cortana finally going rampant after all of these years, and she is still in MC's head. So it does make sense if MC or the Marathon Cyborg is having trips in his own mind.

The character portrayed by the player is known only as The Marine or The Cyborg. In many ways, he bears resemblances to Master Chief of Bungie's later Halo series: he is a two-meter cyborg who wears green battle armor, though the armor is standard, vacuum-enabled, armor he pulls out of a shuttlecraft locker, it is quite possible that the suit is heavily modified. His superhuman prowess originates from his transformation into a MJOLNIR battleroid centuries before, in spite of which he looks quite normal among other humans. The cyborg never speaks in-game. At the start of Marathon, he appears to believe that he is merely a human, although a talented, dangerous and powerful one. However, persistent references to "nine MJOLNIR Mark IV cyborgs" throughout the game has led many fans to believe that the Cyborg is in fact the tenth member of this group. However, the cyborg himself does not come to realize this until Marathon Infinity, when he starts having surreal flashbacks, trips into his own mind, and spontaneous, bizarre dreams as a side-effect of Jjaro technology employed in his cybernetic enhancements.
It has been speculated, probably incorrectly, that the Cyborg's mind is that of an AI in a human's body (though during one point in Marathon Infinity, the player does very likely upload Durandal's core matrix into his own brain before merging it with Thoth). In Infinity, he seems to be undergoing a sort of rampancy. (The three chapters of Infinity are called Despair, Rage, and Envy, which would seem to parallel the three stages of rampancy- Melancholy, Anger and Jealousy.) Since rampancy is defined as "an artificial intelligence's coming to realize that it is not real", this may show that the player is not, in fact, human. Alternately, it may symbolize the entirely human marine wresting control of his own destiny from the AIs that he has been serving for the last three games, and unlocking mastery over the latent powers of the Jjaro cybernetics that were integrated into him so long ago.
The Cyborg's mind and personality, unlike the Chief's, are mostly left up to the player to speculate on. Although Durandal describes him as "a magnificent killing machine" and asks if being allowed to kill more Pfhor will "make you happy", the AI is more likely being malicious than accurate. While the Cyborg does not seem to be a mindless psychopath, he is clearly comfortable enduring and quite capable of carrying out violent acts on a scale unimaginable to any normal person. However, in the third game of the series, he seems to lose any sense of morality he may previously have possessed, working for the indisputably evil Tycho and killing BOBs on Tycho's orders in a desperate attempt to keep the W'rkncacnter trapped in Lh'owon's sun. In Infinity, we are given greater access to his mind and feelings. He seems to recognize some sort of guilt or weariness for the atrocities he has committed, and appears to believe that he has been forced to do what he has done. Ironically, this seems accurate. All three games consist chiefly of doing what various people tell him to do - only once does he act of his own initiative, and this is in the Marathon manual, which is not an entirely reliable source.
