"Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them."

wait, in the infestation photo, there is a planet behind another, and the planet is hot.

At the end of Halo 3, there is a planet, and a star(possibly the same photo, except with the naked eye?)
just noticed the connection between the two and though I should post it.

Basicly im trying to say since there are so many unawnsered questions about the forerunners it is extremely likely that the next halo game will involve the forerunner or i think early humans by 2553 standards , the reason i think forerunners are human because of the quote guilty spark made on the last level ("you are the child of my maker, you are forerunner, inheriter of all they posess, but this ring is mine") and the quoyes that the gravemind made on cortana ( son of my enemy why have you come") and (a farthers sin's pass to his son") i do not disagree that the chief is near mars but i disagree that he is in an alternate dimension. i think he went back in time to when the human race just started to colonise other planets and begin a human -flood war where you fight with the human/forerunner to hold off the flood and ultamitely stop the original fireing of the rings and let the forerunners survive and prosper. which basicly changes the course of humanity stoping the human covenant struggle since there is nothing to fight about and no mention of the forerunners.

Just Some Donkey Kid.....

Bungie will make halo wars. Even thought that is not all about spartan 117. I wish that bungie would make a new series. Like maybe a halo racer. Or an expansion pack to halo 3. I don't mean like the DLC. and i know that it will be hard to make a halo 4, especially considering that they can't use the word HALO.

mai roflcopter, it goas soi soi soi soi

This has nothing to do with this, but i made this name as temporaraly... But there is messages going around saying "go to this website for free points, and the site is called pointsforfree.007sites.com" it looks like a legit microsoft website, and you sign in and it must send the info to a hacker. Because me and 5 other friends got hacked today from this.

My account that got hacked is KRAZ3Xmurderer which was changed to The Assassin007 by some hacker... I am currently talking to xbox support to figure out if I can get my account...
Please inform your friends not to go to that website...

I don't see how people could think the Chief is in an alternate universe when nothing happened at the end of Halo 3 to warrant any kind of inter-universal travel. The ship was speeding toward the portal, half the ship made it into the portal before Mendicant Bias shut it down, thereby cutting the ship in half and leaving Chief and Cortana floating close to the post cataclysm Ark. We know this because while Chief was unconscious from the Halo Effect Cortana was able to assess the damage done to the Ark. She also tells him that they didn't make it through the portal, which is obvious by now. It is impossible for the planet to be Mars, Onyx, or any other object from the Milky Way because the Ark is over 200,000 lightyears away! We know the object in the Legendary Ending was made by the Forerunners. In my mind there is only one logical possibility:
The object is a Mobile Forerunner City, very similar to High Charity, but on a much more grandiose scale. The Forerunners left the Galaxy's protection in the hands of the Reclaimers. With their limitless technology, they would most certainly be aware of the firing of one of their rings, and would no doubt come to investigate. We know there are still Forerunners alive by what MB said in terminal 7, that Chief would be his example to the Forerunners that he has changed. I believe that this Forerunner City was laying in wait for the day the Reclaimers would make it to the Ark, and now they have come across the stranded vessel of Humanity's hero, just like MB wanted.

Halo 3 takes place 200 YEARS before marathon, When master chief's part of the ship slips into the marathon universe, It is still the same exact year he was just in. He floats in space for 200 years until you see the colonized mars appear, And then get eclipsed by the sun eclipsing luna in the background.

Interesting theory, but I'm going to have to disagree with you here. First off, Mars was not the colony ship, rather Deimos, a moon of mars, was excavated and turned into the UESC Marathon. Also, if we look at the the time line of Marathon and compare it with that of Halo errors appears. The Marathon launched in 2472. In 2794 the Marathon is attacked by the Pfhor and the events of the first game take place. This is in stark contrast to Halo, where the events of Halo 3 take place and end in the year 2553. If Master Chief made it to the Marathon he was 241 years early, quite a bit of time to float around outside the colony ship before waking up (and without being detected too, especially given the size of In Amber Clad. Furthermore, the sun wouldn't be eclipsing Luna (the Moon) since at the time the Marathon was attacked it was approximately 12 light years from earth (see timeline linked above for this, based on the emergency message sent by Marathon AI Leela). From this alone we see that the object Master Chief arrives at can not be the good ship Marathon.

At the beginning of the legendary ending, Right where Cortana is awaking the chief from his little nap, You see a small object that looks just like the security com device that the security bots in marathon had.[/i]

The MADDs (that's the Marathon Automated Defense Drones) did not have any such communication device attached to them. They only appear in the first Marathon game and are activated by replacing the defense system circuitry. From the game itself; "Now that you are better armed, our first priority is to reactivate the Marathon's defenses, under my control, so that we may offer some resistance to the aliens. I have built three replacement circuit boards for the defense system, but cannot move them from the manufacturing center without assistance." This quote can be found here, scroll down to terminal #3. Also, please find a few images of a MADD at this link that clearly do not show any communication antenna similar to that depicted at the end of Halo 3.

The next game that bungie puts out will take place in this universe, They ended the story ark with the flood, And now they will make a game that involves the marathon story ark.

Another problem exists with this. Anyone who was an fan of the Marathon series and followed it as diligently as some of you do Halo can tell you why. What I'm referring to is an infamous pair of emails that were sent in the summer of 1998. The Marathon players in the audience may well remember the Marathon: Gold hoax that was started with this email. The excitement generated by the bogus claim of another Marathon sequel prompted this response from Bungie themselves in which they clearly state that they were done with the Marathon saga and had moved on to better things (anyone know what they were up to in '98/'99... ;-). Also the Marathon scrapbook (yeah, I am that old) mentions that Bungie had ratified this statement and insisted they were done with Marathon for good (check page 29 for those of you with access to this holy tome of Bungie history). So far, it seems, Bungie has left the Marathon for good.

As I was watching the last server video from the IRIS (ARG) and these are extremely fast frames, but I think that I caught a picture of a Phfor enforcer and a Compiler (Marathon 2). I'm serious, it changing my whole outlook on the future of the series, and I suggest you all review those videos of IRIS.
...
The compiler is slightly viewed from and angle, looks as if it is sitting on a throne, and the enforcer is getting disentigrated from his right, facing us.

The enforcer photo may have something to do with the Forerunner/ Flood war, as it is right after the frame where " but If we fail (if the forerunner fail to save the earth)". Post what you think.

These two images, while in my opinion look not even close to either the S'pht Compiler or Pfhor Enforcer, have nothing in common with the concept sketch you link to. Further more, the S'pht were a client species of the Pfhor while the Enforcer served a role similar to military police. Furthermore, in the Marathon storyline the Jjaro (the Forerunner equivalents of the Marathon series) had left the known universe at the time the Pfhor made an appearance at the Marathon. Now, if the Jjaro are to stand in for the Forerunners, the above conclusion simply would not work given that the Forerunners would be gone by the time any Enforcer would have been around.

Now, I'll admit I'd be the first one in line to buy if Bungie were to release a remake of Marathon under the guise of a "Halo 4," but expecting such is simply (and no disrespect meant) ignorant. Bungie themselves have stated they were done with the Marathon series. Halo may be filled with references to Marathon, but in the end those references are little more than nods to their past game series and to the fans of those games. Though we can say that, after nearly ten years from the release of the last Marathon game, Bungie could have changed their minds. There is just no way to know for sure.

After all, Durandal did tell us that the truth is the first casualty of war.

Technically, he is correct. Bungie is not producing Halo Wars, rather that job has been passed to Ensemble Studios. I guess it's just semantics.

who really cares? its not like he's real. ITS JUST A GAME! are trying to win the nobel prize or something?
i just got into halo 3 a few months ago, and i just palyed halo 1 and halo 2 for the first time a few weeks ago. i never heard of marathon until i started doing these forums.
like i said, master chief is not real. he never was real and never will be real. hes just made up. i would think halo and marathon would be alike somewhat because they're both made by the same people!

It doesn't end in that year, though the events in Marathon: Infinity make you wonder just what year the series does come to its conclusion. 12811 is simply the year Durandal returns to earth, something which occurs quite a long time after the events in the series. Marathon's timeline includes things that happened in the three Marathon games as well as before (Pathways into Darkness) and after.

Your question of "Who cares?" aside, you stated what I believe to be true very simply. Thanks!

Know that although in the eternal scheme of things you are small, you are also unique
and irreplaceable, as are all your fellow humans everywhere in the world.

Awesome insight Placid! I agree, they are just nods and the Iris promos were not even handled by Bungie. They were handled by MS's marketing team.

My problem with this theory lies in the interpretation of what happens when someone time travels. My belief is that what has already happened cannot be changed, but when people go back in time, they already were in that time before, meaning that it wouldn't create an alternate universe. Its a bit hard to follow what I'm saying, but basically the past cannot be changed, its just that your knowledge of what happened before is further expanded by you going back in time and performing the actions that led up to the same period in time. What's happened has already happened, and cannot be changed. They already went back in time, the effects of that action have already been caused, and the past cannot be altered, however the future, what you do not yet have any knowledge of, can be altered, merely because you only have knowledge of what you think it will be, not what it is. In short, anything you have proof or memory of happening will stay that way, but there are still possibilities in what you cannot remember because you haven't seen that far ahead. Its rather a complex thinking in general, and is still open to debate, but this is the way that I find makes the most sense.
