It's hard to believe that there are people who still don't get the whole halo-marathon thing.

It's obvious and I thought it was well known that Halo is linked to marathon. The "Halo" story arc ended at Halo3, and now the "Marathon" story arc will begin. I thought everyone understood this? Yes it is possible it could be wrong but it's a low chance, they made so much money off of the Halo series, who would pass up the potential for even more money? I expected Bungie to make a newer version of Marathon. Every other old video game has been recreated with modern 3d environments and graphics, I assumed Marathon would be next.

Good job phearmaker, this is the truth, a perfect and seemingly flawless theory.

Your theory is good . . . really good.

But I kinda took Bungie's word when they said that the 2 universes aren't connected and I kind of left it at that in my mind.
After that, I read all 7 H3 terminals on all difficulties several times and the theory I came up with was that the Chief was heading for the [Maginot] Sphere--The Forerunners last secure fortress planetoid outside of the safety of the Ark. It is not specified anywhere in the terminals were the [Maginot] Sphere or Line is and , for all we know, it could be near the Desolation of the Ark.

And then, applying my knowledge from Ghosts of Onyx, I thought to myself: What if Dr. Halsey, CPO Mendez, and the other Spartans find away out of the Slipspace planet their in via a portal that takes them to the [Maginot] where John and Cortana are?

Wait a tick... Was it the Maginot Sphere? Holy crap, that could refer to either the (Dyson) Sphere that the Onyx Portal leads to or the planetoid around which the Ark is built... I have to look at that stuff again.

Ya know, I've always wondered what that sphere was in the center of the Ark. At one point I thought it was the Maginot, but then I said to myself:It can't be. The Flood never reached the Ark. In Terminal 7 [on Legendary], Offensive Bias speaks of Mendicant Bias [a rampant A.I.] bringing an infected Forerunner fleet with him to the Maginot, then attempting to drill a hole throught the Sphere's wall.

I kinda think that the Ark and the Maginot are two different constructs and places.
To say that the Ark's center planetoid is the Maginot would mean that the Flood reached the Ark--but they never did--and to say that that there once was a huge sphere wall surrounding the Ark [and, therefore making it the Maginot Sphere as well] would, actually, mean the same thing I just said, only this time, it would void the theory Ark's center planetoid being the Maginot itself [Also, if there was a huge, huge sphere wall around the Ark, where the heck did it go?].

Is it possible, however, that the Ark's center is the Maginot and that it was never there before the Rings where fired? Meaning: the Ark never had a planetoid core and that the Maginot was slipspaced into the Ark's center after the firing of the Halos?

Oh, crap. I just realized...

SORRY, PHEARMAKER!!! I'm not trying to steal your thread!

"OMG Mars is in Iris! Mars is round and there is a round thing in the legendary ending! ZOMG Mars iz in the legendary ending!!!"

This long and people are still being duped by this?
There's no proof what-so-ever in that theory, and what premises there are are easily refuted.

Posted by: Ogier
Halo 3 takes place 200 YEARS before marathon... He floats in space for 200 years until you see the colonized mars appear...

This Is Not A Time Travel Theory.
Two hundred years is not nearly enough time for a broken half-of-a-ship to float from the Ark (shown to be outside/ on outer edges of the galaxy at the beginning of The Ark level and implied in various terminals) to Sol.
Marathon left Mars 80 years before Halo even started. So, unless it IS a time travel theory, it has just been debunked in one sentence.

btw,
ONYX ASPLODED.
Onyx did did not explode, the crust of the planet did, revealing the sentinel-constructed center. Not that I particularly support the Onyx theories, just that you're wrong.
At the beginning of the legendary ending, Right where Cortana is awaking the chief from his little nap, You see a small object that looks just like the security com device that the security bots in marathon had.

It also shows in the halo 3 permutation.
That is a solid brick of debris. The antenna that clips to the top the shoulder vent/reactor vent on the Mjolnir armor is a hollow shell. It's just debris, and linking it to Marathon is like saying Megaman and Metroid both take place in the same universe because they both shoot plasma out of arm cannons.

It is my theory ( 100% positive in my head ) , That when the portal collapsed, It did so on the master chiefs side of the ship, Sending them into another universe. The arbiter is in the halo universe, In the same time, But chief + cortana are in the marathon universe.
There is no "in-between" that transports you between dimensions if a portal collapses; you're either on one end of it, or the other end of it, but never in it (get it?). You say that the collapsing portal sent them to the Marathon universe, but how could Cortana know the exploding Halo "did a number on the Ark" if they're in a different universe? The portal simply cut off and separated the two halves of the ship like scissors cutting paper, and they drifted forward with whatever momentum they had. Remember that the Halo didn't exactly fire as much as explode, and they did not have to be transported long distances to survive.

And to people that say this theory isnt possible because of the different universe thing, in the game Marathon Infinity, the main character can travel between universes and dimensions.
In Infinity, the player is yanked from timeline to alternate timeline by a hybrid computer (I'll call it Thothandal) looking for a way to stop the embodiment of chaos from coming out of the sun and eating the universe. Play the game instead of reading summaries secondhand. The Master Chief cannot travel between dimensions, the portal did not send him between dimensions, there is no W'rkncacnter crisis.

1. Marathon takes place on a ship called marathon, but the ship is actually a hollowed out moon of Mars
2. The Iris and the Mars photos are exact, meaning Bungie meant for Mars to be somewhere in the game, and look at the iris pictures, everything lines up with the legendary pictures.
1: Marathon was hollowed out of Deimos. So? The marathon has been gone for eighty years by the time Halo starts and the Marathon cyborg is in hibernation and on well on his way to have some fun at Tau Ceti.
2: "Mars is in Iris, Mars is round, there is a round thing in the legendary ending, zomg Mars is in the legendary ending." All planets are round. Take a guess at how many planets are in the galaxy, and you get <1% chance that that is Mars. Blue nebula next door to our solar system, show me it.

The compiler is slightly viewed from and angle, looks as if it is sitting on a throne, and the enforcer is getting disentigrated from his right, facing us.
The "Compiler" picture is a rock on a hill in the middle of a rain forest, really, it is. Use your eyes. For the Enforcer picture, some people might see a monster from an old Power Rangers episode, their crabby grandmother, a puppy, or a strip of bacon. What I don't see is seven eyes and an alien flamethrower.

KItties are cute...only if there head is decapitated

i always thought that the ark was near the earth... but how does marz play into all this

  • 04.19.2008 9:45 PM PDT

It is not the tree that forsakes the flower, but it is the flower that forsakes the tree.

bwo

well thats a good question,

but what i think is that when bungie says that halo3 is the end of the series, i think that might mean they will make a game with the same main characters but name it something else.

Who knows...he crash lands on a unknown planet...they could make it into a Shooter-adventure game. That would be pretty cool. I mean..bungie made a crap load of money with halo they can't just let it be. I mean hell they have a forum about halo 3 thats still going wild. Who knows...we can finally see MCs face

All...posts...too...big (head explodes). Anyway, I'm starting to doubt this but it could happen. The reason why I'm doubting this is because the timeline seems to completely skip/ignore the events of Halo. It seems that the humans had been working on the Mathon project since the 25th century, yet it seems to be completely ignored by the Halo storyline. But then again, that could be the place where they could've said that the Marathon project was to train spartans (the Chiron facilities) just to keep the covenant thinking that it wasn't worth attacking because it had no significance to them. And besides, how would the covenant know what that place was for even if they knew there were humans there. So it seems that everything fits and doesn't fit at the same time. *confusion*. Well that's my guess. I still support this theory and is, by far, the best I've seen.

As far as I can tell, the Halo Novels and games that I see on the shelf at Hastings aren't imaginary or made up.

you mean that you think halo is real? whoa. your brain must be fused to your xbox.

This is tthe most -blam!- awesome theory ever. You are a genius! Congrats! You should be given a medal!

  • 04.20.2008 4:42 AM PDT

Thank you. I like medals. lulz. Just kidding. Anyway, right now, there are like 7 (POWER OF SEVEN) ways that Bungie can continue the story line.

1. They can lead it into Marathon
2. They can lead it into Onyx
3. Lesser Prophets come into power and lead the covenant to try to destroy the humans and elites.
4. The death of Gravemind trigers a reaction and wakes up the flood on the other 5 halos (unlikely).
5. The Chief finds the forruners and they help him fight the remaining covenant.
6. They can start with the sentinels trying to find the Chief to stop him from destroying the other rings and it's up to Arbiter, the elites, and humans to find him first and stop the sentinels.
7. The elite homeworld is under attack by the remaining covenant.

I do not believe Halo is related to marathon for one reason. In marathon Humanity was a pre-slipspace civilization. Humans in Halo had advanced slipspace drives thanks to the covenant. Also the dates due not correlate right to me.

PLEASE READ(sorry i just think this is a relevant peace of info and i do not want it ignored)

If bungie can reimagine maps from older games, why can't they reimagine timelines and technology from games over a decade old?

I don't know, I'm just going to stick around to see what they do with this whole thing.

i can't say that i have seen or know eneything about the marathon series.
but i can't however say that i know what we can see at the end of the leg-ending. it is sertenly mysterius. the big idea that the leg-ending is conected with the marathon mars thing is plausable, but i did read somthing about one of the halo books (ghosts of onyx) stating somthing about a planet with a forrunner based core.

i thinck what we can see in the leg-ending may be one of these cores withought its planetary casing.

i can't say for sure but its just another theory?

EQUALS= halo 4 Yes??????????????

  • 04.20.2008 3:23 PM PDT

certain, almost.

obiously ther is going to be a 4th game but itt may not nececerily be called halo3, although bungie will probably find a way to rope in the halos like they did at the end of halo 3.

  • 04.20.2008 3:28 PM PDT

Who cares he's pretty much done for i dont think he'll last 200 years possibly halo 4 but he most likely will die :)

  • 04.20.2008 3:31 PM PDT

you could be correct!

after the credits we see the mc and cortana......
but the finel snipit, were we see the structure, we don't see the mc or cortana.
they could be dead, escaped, taken hostage or still asleep ready to crashland on what ever it is we can see!

People who still do not agree with this theory, lemme clear some stuff up:

There we go.

Hey... I think I know why Mars is in bold on the first page. Trogdor had it in bold, and I am assuming it was copied and pasted. Sorry if it's already been found, it didn't say so.

Sorry, but none of them are reading anything back here. They just read the first post and then exclaim that he's a genius or that their head hurts. There's probably been a dozen of us who've pointed out that the Marathon left Mars 80 years before Halo, and we've all been thoroughly ignored.
