Hello, I'm having some trouble creating a new Bungie.net login account.

You see, I'm planning on purchasing a new Gamertag, and I wanted my Bungie.net name to match it.

I clicked the "sign up" link at the top of the page, and I start to fill out the form. After I fill out all of the necessary information, I click "continue" and this is what comes up...

The portion of your e-mail address that follows the @ symbol is part of a "reserved domain" such as live.com, hotmail.com, msn.com or passport.com. Please type a different e-mail address.

If somebody can instruct me on how to fix my problem, I would much appreciate it :)

Without giving me the account name (the information to the left of the "@"), what is the domain for the email address on the WLID? That would be the information to the right of the "@".

It's a hotmail.com account. I don't see why there is a problem, as the account I'm currently using was made with a hotmail.com account.

Thank you, sir.

If you're right, could you suggest another site that would allow me to create an e-mail account that is compatible with creating a Bungie.net account?

Before suggesting possible "work arounds", I would ask that you please hang tight until we get an official word on this.

I only have a theory and a string of speculation based on your anecdotal experience. I don't like giving advice when my evidence is limited or unconfirmed.

It's just starting on the workday out on the West Coast, as soon as we get some official confirmation, denial, explanation or clarification.... then would be a more appropriate time to recommend a solution for your issue.

Thank you for taking the time to help me out :)

UPDATE

It seems as though if you create a yahoo.com e-mail address, you can use that in the creation of a new Bungie.net profile.

That's not us. You are trying to create a new Passport / Windows Live ID using a hotmail.com address as the "login". You can't do that - hotmail.com addresses area all "reserved" by Passport, as it is used to authenticate into your Hotmail.

Now, you have two choices. First, use a different email address from Yahoo or Gmail or anywhere else (this is what I recommend). Alternately, instead of hitting "create new account", you can just hit "Sign In", and sign in with your hotmail.com email and its password. In doing so, bungie.net will prompt you for a bungie.net user name before continuing (remember, Windows Live ID and bungie.net accounts are two seperate things). You should only do this if your gamertag is already linked to your hotmail.com email address. If your gamertag is already created, and you used the hotmail.com account to do so, then use it. Otherwise, I recommend NOT using a hotmail.com address as your passport, for a large variety of security and usability reasons.

This is GA Ninja.

I took the liberty of creating a yahoo.com e-mail address, and everything is working ship shape.
