Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

I don't agree with the linked GT thing, not everyone can link their GT. My old account had an old Email and my GT had a different one. Why should I not be able to post in a forum because of that?

Also, the matchmaking idea seems crazy, if i am perma listed here, then I can't enjoy matchmaking anymore? I believe that's far too much. That's not a punishment, it's a condemnation. You can't learn from that.

Everything apart from the Bungie ban = MM ban. A ban from ranked maybe?

Very very good Idea. Reason:
Posted by: Achilles1108I feel that this would add weight to the accounts and make quite a few people realize that being anonymous on the internet still can have consequences
This would be great for people to relize that just because your anonymous dosn't mean, you wont get punished. This was a big convincer to me that it this wasn't something thought up, that would to overly the moderators, and really do nothing for the members. I wish I could say more about this, but I
really have nothing..

It IS far too much, but the other way around? If someone can't behave properly on XBL, can they be trusted to do that here? A ban from MM should definitely equal a ban from this place too.

I think it's a good idea, but yeah people will get more frightened to post...

for example i got blacklisted for replying in a "spam" thread, for a while after my ban was lifted, I was afraid to comment or post my opinion, but now i just ignore almost anything that in anyway could possibly get me blacklisted.....

oh, and I wish you could somehow link your gamertag to an e-mail that isnt registered with the G.T.... like send an e-mail to the GT's account accepting so and so's e-mail to be registered under that GT's name also....
hope that part made sense :P

but i have 2 e-mail accounts.....one is my actually the other I use for signing up for things to avoid mass amount of junk, or if the system is really smart and can detect that i was underage.... such as xbox live noticed my e-mail was underage, so i signed up with an "older" account.... Now i have to use that to sign into bungie.net which then signs me out of my e-mail.... so i can't check my e-mails and be on bungie.net at the same time... WAAAAHHHH

lol
:P

That is what kept running through my head tonight as an idea formed in my head at work. I got an idea to make accounts here have some weight to them.

As of now when a member is blacklisted they are not permitted to post to the forums. This includes posting things to the Files Forums. Now this can straighten some members out and they will go onto be productive members of the community. Others though will just see it as an annoyance and continue until they are permanently blacklisted. My proposal is a very drastic one and I have considered some of the pitfalls, which I will get to in a minute.

My proposal would be to make the Halo 3, Halo 2, Optimatch, and Files Forums be only accessible to people with linked GT’s (possibly just Gold). I chose those forums because of their connection to the online play aspect. Now this will help with the controversial part of my idea. Make it to where when a member with a GT linked gets blacklisted they not only lose the privies to the forums, but also to MM itself.

Now I can probably tell that quite a few of you are saying that I have flipped my lid. Well maybe I have. I feel that this would add weight to the accounts and make quite a few people realize that being anonymous on the internet still can have consequences. A three day ban would go a long way.

The biggest drawbacks I have come across so far is that it would make the Mods seem like Gods. This would make us have a level of responsibility that even makes me uncomfortable. This coming from a guy that has dealt with explosives, and live fire over peoples heads. The end result is who would police the police? Achronos of course, but I am sure he has other things to do. Also it would possibly make people scared to post anything for fear of being blacklisted. That in turn could stifle the creative side of the community by making possible good members shy away.

More than likely there will also be some type of legal issue with my suggestion. It would not surprise me one bit. Something tells me that disclaimers would not quite cut it. If Foman reads this I am sure he could clarify anything on that end.

I would really like to hear what any of you guys and gals have to say about this wacked out idea. I know I have not put it all out the way I wanted to. I am kinda tired, but I will answer any questions that you might have for me.

Its a good idea but there are downsides to it. I mean i enjoy the halo2 forum but if you restrict it only to people who have a Gold GT I wont be able to post there anymore, any niether will plenty of other people. I know the situation for the moderators is hard at the moment with all the spam and rubbish threads but dont give up you will win in the end.

I'm going to have to say that whilst this idea makes sense, it shouldn't happen. If people have paid £40 to play online, then they should be allowed to whether they're idiots on here or not. Besides, they make great conversationalists on line usually!

This is a splendid idea, maybe a little over the top but a splendid idea.

"Mummy, what is one having for tea tonight pray tell!!!?"

"Banger's and Smash!"

"And just what is this 'bangers and smash?"

"Sorry darling, I meant to say Pork Sausages and Mashed Potato! Smash is the most popular brand of instant mashed potato in the UK. The preparation of Smash is extremely simple, making the product popular with those short of time or lacking inclination to manually prepare mashed potato. The granules are placed in a bowl and boiling water is added and stirred producing a passable mashed potato substitute within minutes! Just to let you know, I've also added in some milk and butter, and a pinch of pepper for taste!"

"Wonderful, wonderful! Let us feast at once!" *Applause*

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

something needs to be done to increase the "productivity" of forum
topics, but Making the forums available only to the xbox-live gold
account users seems like an ( overkill ) solution.

I am a ( xbox-live gold user ) but still wouldn't want this to take effect.

1. One of the reasons being that there are plenty of halo 3 players
who don't have xbox live who may like to post in the the forums.

2. Another Reason I wouldn't want to say this measure take place is
because there are likely just as many jerks that post in the forums
that HAVE xbox-live.

I find achilles idea for poiicing the forums Noble, but flawed. So i give
it a hands down

I agree with most people on here saying that its a great idea. If there is too much freedom in the forums, without much severe punishment for repeated offenses, then the freedom will be abused.

A ban on matchmaking will keep people in check and will legitimately make them think about what they are saying before they say it. This will immensely improve the environment of these forums. The pollution by retards is reaching a new high. We must counter this new threat. A ban a MM is the solution.

that would actually balance allot of things out. but however. the more ideas you add to the equasion. the more problems will pop up. if your proposal was taken in effect. it might change the entire face of the community as we know it. I can't disagree with your proposal. I mean, I would like to have a B.net without annoying or obnoxious users always starting crap in my face within every post I make. But i can break it down in a very simple saying for you. For every action, their is a reaction. Think about what kind of reaction this community would make. B.net............. the whole cluster and mob of users.

So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

Considering what this thread is about, I find its subject title humorous. I also find this idea disturbing, especially considering that it originated with a mod and is being supported by other mods.

The power that is being spoken about is too much. Mods don't work for Bungie. They do Bungie a service by policing the forums. I pay for my gold subscription just like everyone else does and I will be damned if someone whom doesn't work for Microsoft or Bungie is going to take away my paid-for right play in matchmaking.

Now, I have never done anything to be blacklisted. I don't plan on doing anything to be blacklisted or banned. However if I were to be blacklisted I wouldn't want to have to explain to my friends that I couldn't play with them because of something what went down in an internet forum.

This forum is a free service that is provided by Bungie, and XBL gold is not. If Bungie wants to make certain sections of the forums available to Gold members that's fine. If they want to make it available to all members that's fine too. But if someone is going to pull me out of matchmaking then they had better work for Bungie or Microsoft, and it better be clearly outlined in the end-user agreement that I click "I accept" on back when I signed-up for my gold account.

What makes me even madder is that a few days ago there was a thread asking the mods to offer a little more recognition to members that have remained active and law abiding users. The mods, for the most part, thought that this was a bad idea because they thought that it would promote elitism and would make room for users abuse the fact they would have different titles additional avatars to choose from. In retrospect not that much in the way of power or benefits at all.

Now the mods are asking for the power to ban people from MM. Are you serious? And people are supporting this idea, are you mad? Hey while we are all supporting bad ideas, I've got a few. [sarcasm] To make the forums easier to police just make it so that the mods are the only ones that can post. To make it so that people stop complaining about a certain armor type just make all the permutations only available to Bungie and the mods. To make it so that the mods would never have to ban people from MM just let them be the only ones that can play MM. [/sarcasm]

In closing I would like to leave you with a question. Why is it that the mods are so unwilling to reward good users but so easy to ask for more power? Power that could very well break legal agreements.

  • 11.18.2007 7:49 PM PDT

I doubt it would be legal for some mod on an internet forum to have the power to stop me using a service that I have already paid for , espeically seeing as my contract is with microsoft and not the forum moderator. Who incedentily is not an employee of bungie or microsoft.

  • 11.18.2007 8:48 PM PDT

To OP I think you were right when you said you flipped your lid, at least with the being banned from Match Making part. People would be to scared to post, and people who dont even work for bungie should NOT in any way shape or form have control over my ability to play bungie's game. <- It is that simple. I think you first idea was really good though. Only letting linked accounts post would cut down a lot on spam/random flames. The second part just takes it wayyyy tooooo farrrrrrrrrr

Read the thread, it was half a joke. Achilles and the other mods would never, honestly, think that having the ability to remove peoples plaid services was a good idea.

Also, the reason we want more power is because we are all power mad, or at the very least, power drunk monsters with no desire to help the place but, rather, are just waiting for the opportune moment to come through the internets then your modems and smother you all in your sleep.

It's time for my "sub-forum" analogy again...

Imagine someone leaves a rather nasty liquid on the floor for you. This nasty substance is analogous to the Halo 3 forum. Well, imagine instead of cleaning it up, you just spread it around, which just makes it harder to clean in the long run. That's what making sub-forums would do. Look at how many people posts Halo 3 topics here in the community forum. Do you really think (even with sub-forums) people are intelligent enough to post in the correct place? Here's a hint: they're not.
