Sound like a bunch of leet no-lifers to me. Get paid to play ? *Ahem* Get a real job 'n grow up ?

Exploiting glitches, messing around with different ways of holding controllers, formin' your own little groups and cliques. I'm guessing these people weren't the cool and popular kids in school and feel they missed out on the insular nature of the leets there ?

Wonder how many of them actually have wives/girlfriends/social lives etc. I thought this kind of nerd-dom died out in the 90's.

Love to play on live with these guys some time just to annoy them more than anything.

Well I won't speak on what I don't know but here is my bit on this. I wish I was there, because I've always wondered how the mind of a "Pro" game player works. MLG is a good organization and knocking them for allowing button glitches is dumb. If you don't, and someone accidentally does it the game is forfeit? Hope the Bungie guys had fun seeing how big of a die hard following their game has. I can honestly say I feel your pain, just be happy you are paid to make the game and not play it.

On to the Ogre's and all the other guys that are PRO. They are really just that good. Back in the day when I would have considered myself right below "Pro" skill in Halo 2, I got some of these guys in Team Slayer matches online. The button glitches didn't make that big of a difference, they worked so well as a team they would have killed us shooting half as much as us. They *never* missed, and if you ever felt like no matter where you go you run into three people you REALLY don't want to play these guys. I hope we get an MLG play list, so just in case I get serious about winning again I can practice in the right format.

P.S. That wall jumping video was completely sickmade. I hope that doesn't mean super jumps are in the game and just not found yet although I think these are almost as bad. I'm going to go try these out to see how they are done, as they completely change the strategy of a level.

You could do those wall jumps in Halo 2. I saw a video once. There was one from the middle level of Ivory Tower up to Sniper, and from the floor of Warlock to a top of a platform.

What more is a job than doing something and then getting paid for it? What makes their job "unreal"?

Exploiting glitches, messing around with different ways of holding controllers, formin' your own little groups and cliques. I'm guessing these people weren't the cool and popular kids in school and feel they missed out on the insular nature of the leets there? The glitch addiction can get a bit irritating, but I don't see what the problem is with holding the controller differently (I've tried different ways to hold it). I'm guessing that you assume a lot when you're jealous.

Wonder how many of them actually have wives/girlfriends/social lives etc. I thought this kind of nerd-dom died out in the 90's.Based on what you know about who you're talking about (Or rather, what you don't know), you could say the exact same thing about everyone here.

Look - I'm not trashing the MLG (except their policy regarding under-aged participants). I like the fact that the MLG exists, though I do believe they are by and large elitists. This is not unexpected - I would hardly fault an NFL linebacker for believing himself a better tackler than I am. I would prefer if they had modeled their policies around the gaming industry and with the intent of the developers in mind (read: adhere to the ESRB ratings and prohibit the use of "glitches"), but these are relatively minor faults.

I enjoy the tactical and team-oriented strategies and recommendations they make, and I'm sure that if I were presented an opportunity to witness one of their events first-hand I would thoroughly enjoy myself. I rather like their required settings for Halo 2 (although the removal of the motion tracker reduces the required skill).
Well said. Besides the age part, your words precisely reflect my feelings about MLG (Even the radar thing. I've always argued that it was harder with the radar on too). You nailed it on the head.

I still disagree with you about the age thing, though.

The age issue is a major flaw, the glitch support is minor by comparison. The NFL would never allow a nine-year-old to compete (much less a five-year-old), but that is not a fair analogy. The WPT would not allow a nine-year-old to play, regardless of his apparent deftness of play, and the WPT would similarly (indeed they have already) make it a violation of the rules to string-raise (which is the nearest analog I could find to the endorsement of glitches). And the poker analogy is a little off too, in my opinion. Gambling addiction is a seriously harmful situation that will pretty much guarantee a negative result. Addiction to video games is nominally harmfull and does not at all guarantee a negative result.

The video game rating system is in place to help parents determine what content they deem appropriate for their children. I think that is a good idea. However, I also support the fact that ESRB ratings are not actual law. The ESRB is (to my knowledge) a self-regulatory system that retailers (And more than a few "special interest" groups) have imposed on themselves and game developers. But even the ESRB seems to maintain the position that they want to protect first-amendment rights and allow the consumer to decide what is and isn't appropriate.

So MLG allowing kids under 17 to play in a tournament consisting of all M rated games isn't really a breach of ESRB's recommendations, in my view. If MLG promoted the event directly to kids under 17 (Or failed in any other way to keep the parents in the loop and informed of the M ratings), then I would criticise them for that (And I can't speak to that either, btw. I don't pay much attention to MLG, so I dn't know how responsibly they conduct their events in respect to kids and ESRB ratings).

I know it is hard for some people to accept, but there does exist a population of children that can play games with violent content and not be affected negatively by it at all. the reason those children aren't affected negatively by it is somewhat dependant on the randomness of nature, but almost entirely dependant on the parents ability to healthily nurture.

That's just my opinion (I am a father, incidentally), and offered with respect. :)

Whatever the case, Bungie should not have implcitly endorsed the participation of a nine-year-old in a series of tournaments consisting exclusively of "M" rated games.I would say that they explicitly endorsed it, since they they actually played a game with the kid and published a news item about it.

What?!!!

Yeah!!!!

I enjoy watching the MLG tournaments when I catch them. I only watch certain events, DOA is one and so is Counter Strike, although it is pc based ( pc is ok just not me) anyway, I am hoping that they include Halo3 next season, with the new ways the game types are played, IE one sided territories and one sided assault. Territories with its defend yours or lose them and assoult with its ability to disarm the bomb and return it should make for something other than just 1v1 slayer that they always show when halo2 is played. don't get me wrong, I enjoy slayer (even though I am not very good) but I like objective games where everyone works together. so with these new games types and unlimited customization with forge, I hope they include it in the next season of MLG.

Oh and radar on or off, I still die with great pain.

bungie has proven that a bunch of monkeys sitting in front of keyboards can randomly type out a masterpiece. the thing is, when you go to play the masterpiece, you cant help but notice all the monkey s**t smeared all over it.

it gets real old having to wait months for someone like mlg to clean off all the monkey poo.

Posted by: Armagaiden
Yea, actually they are doing "fine" in h3. They've already found glitches in the game that no one was meant to take advantage of and will exploit them in their own "competitive", oh wait, they say the most "tactical" ways... hahaha.

oFmG's leEt ghost jumpin the spartin yO!!

not only old, but all those jump styles (ghost edge jumping, slide jumping) were possible in halo 2, anyone ever in a jumping clan would be familiar with them. vids and tuts have been all over the internet, mlg's website was one of the last places to pick up on it.

so... what happened to all the guys who swore up and down they cant wait to "demolish the halo 2 pros in halo 3" because without glitches the pros would suck?

Lol, I can't wait until one of those guys tries to use the H3 sniper... This was probably the last great Halo 2 MLG tourney... they will start winding down, and Halo 3 will start winding up. You've gotta change with the times, or you will be left behind!

MGL rules = crap game play!!

not that I could compete with MGL players (not the wannabees) but skill in sport is being able to adapt to the conditions. If you BR start then obviously you won't dual wield which in other words means you never have to make a weapon based decision for what is the best for each situation. Also grenade starts lead to grenade spaming. Ever played hardcore? jump throw jump throw etc. You can get very good with grenades but they still are sloppy.

KOD
BR starts make Halo WAY more balanced. God I hope bungie puts team hardcore in Halo 3.

and whoever asked if FB is good in Halo 3.. this is OGRE 1's stats

I think they'll be pretty good.

Bungie,

Thank you so much for coming to the 07 Championships Chris, Chuck, Joe, Eamon, and any other Bungie representatives!

As part of the MLG Community, I hope that Bungie will continue to increase its involvement with MLG.

Having seriously played Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, logging over 8,000 H2 games on XBL and countless, countless LAN games for H:CE and H2, I can safely say that Bungie knows how to design enjoyment, replayability, and competitiveness in video games - an excellent way to fund World Domination.

I need to reinforce that though much of the Internet voice from our side of the fence (read Halo MLG Community) speak negatively about Bungie and its game development and management habits, the overwhelming majority of us are forever in your debt for creating such spectacular and versatile games (The Halo Trilogy)!

Thank you Bungie.

P.S. - Halo 3 looks/feels/plays great. I have many non-video gaming friends coming over and enjoying H3 constantly. And we have already had 3 LANs!

I have been here since 2003, but in a site update my account was deleted.

lol host

I have yet to meet someone who is a MLG player who is not full of themselves.
I know what I have seen probably does not accurately reflect the entire MLG community, but from what I have seen there is a general lack of humility and a general excess of cockiness and put-downs.
I hope that my mind can be changed by a few run-ins with some really nice MLG players.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Just a few quick points. The guys who run MLG and the guys who are regularly playing on their touring tournaments are awesome guys - professional, excellent players. The "MLG" on the Internet, however, is composed of mostly a bunch of imposters who think that because they prefer playing the same gametypes as the official MLG tournament gametypes that they are somehow allowed to dictate how the game should be played to everyone who doesn't l ike to play like that.

As to the animation glitching - as you might have noticed on Xbox Live, it is pretty impossible to police that kind of thing, even with judges. So, they simply allow it because they recognize that teamwork and communication are far more important to winning in Halo than any stupid animation glitch. Saying that 90% of the "real" tournament players would be helpless without animation glitches is utterly absurd, and is bordering on trolling.

As for Lil' Poison, his parents know that the ESRB is meant as a guideline to assist parents in making appropriate choices for their children. Based on my knowledge of him and my exposure to you, Morpheus414, Lil' Poison is apparently more mature than you are (and he's not 3, I think he's like 9 or 10).

Way to propagate ignorance, though.

And shame on Bungie for promoting a company that supports, exploits and includes Button Combos in their rules to help amplify their game.

I guaranteee you if you take those animation stopping glitches away, a good 90% of these "pros" would be helpless in battle.

And don't even get me started on Lil Poison.

Poor parenting?

Good Lord, man. ESRB ratings are meant as guidelines, just as movie ratings are. Parents can take a kid into an R rated movie if they feel their kid can deal with it (and many do). Same goes for M rated games.

The rating system is important, but as a tool for parents, who can and should be the ultimate arbiter of their kids' consumption of such content. Lil' Poison isn't going around to these things by himself, his parents oblivious, you know. He didn't buy Halo by himself, his parents judged he could play it. I'm certainly not going to tell them how to parent their child.

You clearly don't understand how the ratings systems is supposed to be used.

Posted by: Chapstick
My feelings on MLG aside (they have their uses, despite their egos), I am saddened at the implied condoning of "Lil Poison" and his gameplay.

This is a nine-year-old.

He, and anyone else under the age of 17, has no business playing an M-rated game - much less being a member of a "professional" organization.

Most tournaments - casual or otherwise - require players to be over the age of 18 to play, nevermind the minimum age required to purchase this game.

I don't get it.

MLG, whatver. Underage gamers? This should in no way be condoned, and should in no way be encouraged. By posting images and accounts of playing this game with a -blam!- fourth-grader, Bungie has done both.

I wonder if "Lil Poison" played Gears of War (with all its profanity and gore)...

So shame be upon you, Bungie, for exalting the poor parenting so prevalent today, and for your implication that it's okay for children to play M-rated games. By this same implication, I suppose Bungie also supports under-aged drinking, under-aged viewing of X-rated material, under-aged smoking, etc.

Sure, you say, that's preposterous, but why is it that the Halo series is rated "M" in the first place? Could Bungie not have removed and/or altered content to achieve an "E", or even a "T" rating?

Absolutely.

But they didn't.

This suggests that they wanted an "M" rating, or that they at the least didn't want to edit their game to reduce its rating.

So, they clearly don't believe in the rating system, and clearly condone under-age gaming with respect to their, and evidently other, "M" rated games.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere in a recent update that Bungie doesn't want to include a playlist with a MLG-esque feel to it because they're their own organization with their own rules or something to that nature.

I don't see the harm in it really, I loved playing team hardcore in halo 2 because the motion sensor was disabled and it cut down on most camping. I think at least Team Tactical should have it gone, it would make it more communication based.

I'm the same in the sense that my enjoyment of team hardcore wasn't in any way related to it's similarity to MLG settings. I just happened to like the settings of the games in team hardcore as another option amongst the playlists. I'd lilke to see it (Or something similar) come back, too.

I agree. that's pretty damned impressive. 11 games logged, all of which his team placed first, 10 of which he was the lead scorer. 5.31 K/D ratio and already a kill frenzy. I don't care who you are, that represents a considerable amount of potential.

Anyone who has played against the real guys wouldn't be claiming button glitches make them good. They are unbelievable at teamwork and communication, they pwned me and my friends and we were damn good at Halo 2. You want to know what really makes them good? They practice, they accept defeat and use it to improve themselves, and they are unbelievably good at aiming. Associating yourself with people that passionate about your game is a great thing and I hope Bungie continues to do the same. Lil Poison's parents have done no wrong, I can't even tell you how many times I've seen youth in a PG-13 / R movie. How many 10 year olds do you think watched Transformers? So the kid loves Halo and is damn good at it, at least they support his passion however untraditional it may be.
