For SciFi (it's not at all an action movie), I like this non-Hollywood movie called Primer, it's really cool, and it will drive your mind crazy with thinking more than Memento.

i personally think matrix went down hill with the plot. The first was great the 2nd was good but i thought the third was just a little too far fetched though the mechs were awsome. I just love blade so i had to vote for it.

I voted for The Matrix. Because I assumed you meant the first and only Matrix, not the so-called sequels I disavowed any knowledge of. My hate for those sequels run deeper than any fault line in california. It even exceeds my hate for Idaho.

And I hate Idaho a pretty damn lot.

Blade and Underworld are NOT Sci Fi. PLus Underworld and Blade 3 are horrible, anyways, I'd have to go with Terminator, then Blade Runner.

First off I would like to comment that I loved all THREE of the matrix movies. They had deep philosphical meanings that you may never understand. but thats not the point.....

The greatest Sci-Fi is of course Alien and Aliens

Yeah, that is an awesome movie. Any story that begins with the destruction of Earth is good in my book.

I'm going to go with Aliens. Alien wasn't strictly a scifi/action so much as a scifi/thriller/horror. Alien 3 was more of the same. Alien Resurrection ... well... the only good thing about that movie was Winona Ryder. And the guy who voices the Prophet of Truth.

Alright you candy yams. The Matrix Trilogy. Over half of you nay sayers probably never saw/understood the Animatrix or played Enter the Matrix. You guys were to busy loving all of the COOL karate stuff and bullet time in the first movie to even notice the concept of the Matrix.

One guy posted that the second movie dealt too much with love. This is a guy that wanted more bullet time and karate stuff. Love was the WHOLE point of the Matrix Trilogy. If you wanted action watch Revolutions. Better yet, watch the second DVD for Reloaded and listen to K. Reeves talk about how there was 3x more martial arts movements in the Burly Brawl than in the entire 1st Matrix movie.

Lastly, if you watch the 1st and 2nd Renaissance of the Animatrix, you will understand that the humans can never defeat the machine army. The entire human race lost the 1st war, how in the world can Zion beat them. The ending was very realistic.

Matrix 2 and 3 were gash. The original was clearly meant to be a sci fi/action/martial arts/pointless fun film, but after the first it just got so much up its own arse about its pointless and shallow philisophy, which was just trying to be so above its own station, that they were -blam!-. Star wars 4-6 were fun and good, but most certainly not of high quality (not that thats a problem). Alien and Aliens were good, but I havent seen Alien 3, and the other two are just not up to the name. For my favourite sci fi movie at the moment I would say the original Star Wars trilogy are my favourite (the Return of the Jedi being my favourite), though I am sure there are better ones, I just cant remeber them at the mo, or I havent seen them.

Blade Runner is one of the higher "quality" films there and I think it is very good, but it isnt as fun as Star Wars. Cant even be bothered watching blade.

And Underworld isnt even worth calling a film. It was better than I expected, but then I had really low expectations and I came out thinking it was -blam!-. One of the few films I feel I have wasted my time by going to see.
