I'd like to see a note next to peoples avatars on posts, that appears next to posters you have previously fought online, and links to those matches.

Huh?

You want the system to look at each poster on a page, compare it to your game history, find any matches and then link to and summarize the results of those past match ups?

And this helps the discussion in the forums (which is the reason they are here) how?

Well, for starters, bungie have stated that stat tracking and saved films are mostly for authenticating trash talking, which occurs in many posts.

And its would just be convenient to see at a glance if you had played someone before. Am I mistaken, or is there no quick way to tell if you have played with person'x'?

Oh, that description is a bit easier to understand. Hmmmm.

An interesting idea, but this is the wrong place to discuss it.

Standby for thread relocation.

What am I, a chinese guy living on the site of a future olympic facility?!?!?!

Actually, I voted no, but after reading it (and actually understanding it), I realize I would've voted yes. That would be cool... It's always hard to find people you've played with before. I've added a few friends from the forums and realized I've played with them before.

Not at all. But you had created this thread in the Halo 3 forum. This is not a Halo 3 topic but rather a discussion about the features and function of this site.

As such it is better located in The Community Forum. Here it will get the proper response, replies and possible attention that it might not have gotten in the Halo 3 forum.

Yeah, all the replies you get in the Halo 3 forums is: omg lol wow wtf get rdy 2 b fl4m3d.

On topic: Sounds like an interesting idea, but would the link only go to then matches you have played with that user? Why would this benfit anything?

You could see at a glance if you had encountered a person in game before, You could instantly compare what someone is saying ABOUT the game, to YOUR experience with them online.

And extra connectivity is always good.

Silly Recon forgets how links work. It would load when you click the link, not when the forum page loads.

OP's idea is good, Recon, your idea is also good...

I hope both of them can be implemented in some way.

I like that idea, but it might be too complex and require a lot of server-side processing

This is the reason Chris547 said my Medals Chest Idea probably would never be implemented. Of course he's much more eloquent when talking about this sort of thing, basically it's too much to do for what little it accomplishes. That's not a shot at the idea you have, I love that idea, but realistically it'd be less than easy to implement. Then again, your idea may be much easier to implement than the one I came up with. Who knows? ;)

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

But it did bring this one to mind.

What about a link in that same location that would create an XBL Friend Request that automatically had the text of "This Friend Request was submitted from the Bungie.Net forums" when you got the FR on your console?

I can see it working for some people but I would love not to have it for selfish reasons. I get enough FR now. I would be bombarded with them each time I turn on my 360.

Check out the Woodshop!

I don't exactly suck, but I'm not that great. My stats reflect my current skill pretty well. I think that being able to see anyone's skills, or stats to any degree would merely serve as a distraction within the forums. If you are truly interested in someones stats, it's pretty easy to check them. I think that if the stats were so readily available from the avatars, then it would only bolster more burns, and flaming. Often times people will try to discredit posters opinions by calling their poor stats into question (or questioning their good stats). I think it would be a mistake, expecially considering the fact that it isn't needed. It's easy to check anyway.

Right, I don't like the FR idea either. I get too many of those as it is.

I like that idea, but it might be too complex and require a lot of server-side processing every time a page loads. Since there are up to 25 posts per page, each of which could have a separate gamertag and history that would potentially need to be cross-referenced as the page loaded.

But it did bring this one to mind.

What about a link in that same location that would create an XBL Friend Request that automatically had the text of "This Friend Request was submitted from the Bungie.Net forums" when you got the FR on your console?

I already thought about this. All it would require is a text file of some kind listing all users you are recorded as having played against attached to your profile. On loading forum pages, it would only have to cross check against the list, and generate appropriate links. The links them selves would be the bear the brunt of loading when clicked on, but no more than looking up your game stats pages. Quite feasible, really.

  • 10.27.2007 1:55 AM PDT

I'm not talking about their skill ratings or experience, I'm talking about game data from games YOU have played with them. You could instantly see if you had ever been in a game with them, and you could click to see what games, if they were on your team, how you compared to them in the match, etc.

On a basic level, it helps you 'recognise' people on the forums better. It is a forum for players of the game, after all.

It is a really cool idea, I like it.

Like others have mentioned, it would put a strain on the servers having the added load, and people always use in game play as an excuse to belittle people, so it may just incite flame wars. Otherwise, it's just another link below someone's name.

Maybe if it just made a list in general of gamertags you've played with that also queue up as a registered name on the forums. Unless that is what you said to begin with, then I totally scanned too much. ^.^

I just said in my post just before yours that it would be fairly easy, and not too taxing on the server, for a list to be generated of all bungie.net users you have played against to be addened to your profile, and checked against on loading threads... hell, it could even be optional, for those who don't like it, but I don't see why they wouldn't, done in the way I suggest would cause virtually no impact on load times.

A tosser is the same as a wanker. To toss oneself off is to fondle the trouser weasel.

While it sounds interesting I think it'd mean a lot of work to the server(s).

Unless there was an option to allow users to turn it off.
