Subject: Why I HATE The Halo 3 Forum

I am currently attempting to post a question on the Halo 3 forum, for about the sixth time. Why?

Because the previous five times I've posted it, I've only gotten one response, which was of no assistance, by the way, and my legitimate thread keeps getting bumped off the first page, because people keep posting these godforsaken "KAN I HAZ RECON ARMORZ PLZ BUGNIE?!!!?1/!?/1/!" threads, and the other crap that continues to be posted over and over. While the people who have legitimate questions, comments, and other things to talk about, get ignored, because someone just has to tell every one of those twenty people "NO U KAN NOT HAZ RECON ARMORZ!!111!".

Anyway, just needed to get that off my chest. Thoughts, anyone?

There was a man from Allentown who fed his son to death.
He calmly watched him gorge himself until his final breath.
And there he stood, surprised and shocked above his tiny frame.
He said: "I bear no blame for this. I only share his name!"

Same thing happened to me twice now. Don't worry about it. Sooner or later the annoying idiots will get fed up of Bungie not caring about them and their stupid ideas and leave.

The Halo 3 board: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

And thats why I try and stick with browsing this forum most often. :P

Its hard to post in the the halo3 thread because its made up of new members. Tons of members join and start posting and making topics for a few days and then are replaced by newer members that make the same topics. As far as I know im the only reg there. I havent seen very many other people posting that have been there longer than a few days. And they are either raging bungie fanboys or people that come to complain about halo3s multiplayer.

The best thing to do is use the search feature. If its a comman question im sure you will find hundreds of threads.

It's crazy in there. I've never seen a bigger collection of flamers and ignorant people. But there are some good posters in that forum, even though they're overshadowed by all the shenanigans.

Same happens to me, which is why I stick with the Optimatch forum and just slip my Halo 3 thoughts with my optimatch thoughts in to get answered and still stay on topic.

Speaking of which why can't I have an option to spawn with a Carbine in custom games? <--Like that
OMG that was sneaky : )

I don't even both with the Halo 3 forum anymore. You'll just end up getting either ignored or flamed. What's the point?

Recon discussions should grant people a blacklist. The same thing should go for people who are posting repetitive posts (within reason), if theyre able to write a post theyre sure as hell able to read the other topics on the first pages too.

"Paradox is a pointer telling you to look beyond it. If paradoxes bother you, that betrays your deep desire for absolutes. The relativist treats a paradox merely as interesting, perhaps amusing, or even, dreadful thought, educational." - Leto II

It just moves too fast. It needs to be broken up somehow, maybe campaign and multiplayer? Even then it might be overwhelmed by volume.

I used to think The Flood is bad.

The Flood is nothing compared to Halo 3 forums.

GOAT

Agreed.
The mods really need to step up in the Halo 3 Forum.

Not one bumped thread gets locked, way too many repeat threads, legitament topics don't even get replied to, the phrase "you fail" is in every thread, its full of the " I like Halo 3 and people who don't suck at it" the "Halo 3 sucks" and the "Melee/Sniper needs to be fixed/is broken".

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

People just need to be more responsible with the content they put out into the forums, like thats ever going to happen with all of the the children filling up the forums with repeat topics that consist only of insults, ignorance, and bumps.

  • 10.27.2007 4:59 PM PDT

NEED SOME MORE OF THAT WIKUS.

Sitting around whining about it won't really make much of a difference.

In order to bring change, you have to be its catalyst. If enough people go to the forums and actually act like they have an IQ in the positive numbers, then maybe, just maybe these poor fellows will turn around and think "hey wait a second...I look like a total moron here". Losing patience with it is just letting the trolls have their playground.

And blaming it on the mods isn't much better. Mods need to have lives too, so I'm told, and I know from experience from elsewhere that having a terrible day at work/with a boyfriend/University/whatever and then coming back to see a bunch of kids whinging at you for not moderating all 51 of their posts in 5 minutes is not something which pleases me very much.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly a fan of the trollism either (hence teh lurkz), but maybe it's down to us to try and make it a better place? That's what communities do, right?

Why yes. It's 1.11am and I'm a tad sleepy, which is why I'm rambling. Ignore at will :3

I sometimes think there is a purpose to the Halo 3 forum... *gasp*

It's a magnet, to pull all the spammers and flamers out of other forums. A kind of 'designated zone' for those who say what they like, when they like. A part from when they're blacklisted, obviously.

Even if we pounce on every Recon armour thread that comes up the moment it appears, the legitimate threads will still have been bumped down.

So shush.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Deleting a thread leads to more trouble than it's worth. First, you get "where did my thread go?" threads. Then you get "omg bungie is silencing me" threads". Even without that, it still creates problems because it allows things to happen that have no trace, and no way of rectifying any mistake. They used to delete threads quite a bit from the Underground, but from what I've heard, there is a new policy that basically says "don't delete threads".

Lukems asked for a crunch on the forum. It started.... and look where that got us. I really don't know if it's possible to fix that place.

Im aware of this but i´d much rather have a short intensive period of complaints regarding deleted threads than what we have to deal with now. That forum isnt readable as it is. Just put it in a sticky "we will delete repetitive threads, complaints equalls a blacklist and a deletion of the complaint ". If they dont want to do it just borrow me the orange text for a couple of minutes and i´ll show them how its done. I bet i could blacklist a thousand accounts/day without breaking any rules. Fear, thats the key.

God, why can't people be smart enough to think for themselves? Why do people always need things spelled out for them? And in the end, why can't people just let things go?

I wouldn't go so far as to say that... nor that we need to step it up. I can moderate the forum at 3am and still see my posts disappear off the page. Fact is, we can be doing our jobs and it won't show. Why? The forum moves so fast... it's not the old days of the Flood where we can lock a page worths of posts and they'll sit there for an hour or so.

I always see people repeatedly avoid the language filter, spam, flame and bump. The Bungie CoC says that these are bannable offences, so why don't the moderators just get in there and blacklist anyone who deserves it!? If the CoC is the law then they have every right to!

Moderators can't read every post to the letter... if you find things like that... let us KNOW! Send anyone of us a PM, we'll look at it and a person will probably get blacklisted.
