I played the original Marathon game when it first came out and it absolutely ruled. I had it on my performa 630 which has long since died (R.I.P). I've been doing some searches and found a few bits which equate to a blessed conversion. I've downloaded "Aleph one" which is a .exe file, but when I launch it i get an error message saying a required 'sdl.dll' was not found?I've downloaded a 'SDL_Library' and 'SDL-Image Library' and put them in the same file along with 'M1A1_SDL' - (which has the sounds maps images music files reminiscent of the original marathon, but no marathon 'application'?)What am I doing wrong? Do I have the wrong files?Could someone be so kind to link me to the exact files I need and write a procedure I should follow to make it work?I'm running Windows 98 btw. And as you can probably see I'm not too knowledgable on computer stuff... I've read the marathon for dummies website: http://www.micro-blaze.com/graphics/devine.jpg but I still don;t know where I'm going wrong 8-#Thanks.Marathon <3[Edited on 6/6/2004 9:08:13 AM]
Hmm, that's quite a pickle if I do say so myself. Did you put all of the M1A1 files in Aleph One?
Yes, but I have a feeling that I don;t have the correct aleph one files. Is it simply a '.exe' file and that's it?
I think I read somewhere that you need to have the Marathon 2 game in order to play Alph one and thus also Marathon 1, I'm not sure though. Maybe you should ask one of the mods, they know the answer.
I hate everything, but it's not my fault.
I think you have to have the Marathon 2 or 3 full game or demo for Aleph 1 to run, I wouldn't know because I'm too lazy to download any of it, but try downloading the Marathon 3 demo, there's a link on the Aleph 1 page.
How can I contact the mods for instructions? I'd suggest a sticky with a step by step guide to get it to work. When I was downloading the files (on dial up!) I'd get all excited at teh prospect of re-living the marathon experience only to find that I need more files and I need to some how integrate them. It's all very confusing and frustrating. Would it just be better to download a mac emulator and download a marathon rom? Anyone got any links where I can get these from? Thanks.
PM Stosh, He'll help.

Did you read the readme included with aleph one? You should because I'm fairly sure it goes over how to get the game running. You need to get either get the marathon 2 game files(shapes, music, etc..) or use the mac game files. If you use the windows game files make sure you delete the file name extension. There's some procedure you have to do to game the mac game files to work. I think it's in the readme though.

Both AlephOne and M1A1 have readme files. Read M1A1's readme and it will explain how to set it up. It's actually quite simple. Keep in mind, though, that M1A1 isn't perfect.
What they said. If you continue to have problems after doing whatever the read-me said, go to the Orbital Arm. That place has pretty much everything you need when it comes to getting AO to run on your PC. Their forums are also very useful. But always, _always_ read the read-me first. Its there for a reason you know. [Edited on 6/7/2004 10:47:58 AM]
But always, _always_ read the read-me first. Its there for a reason you know. *misses the days of the "Don't Read Me's."*
I'm not being stupid here. I did read the m1a1 read me and found it confusing. The problem I'm having is when I download aleph one from http://source.bungie.org/ there is just a .exe file that doen't work (.dll error sdl.dll file not found???) and no read me! Someone try downloading aleph one and corroborate this for me... or link me to an online read me for aleph one.^Shishka = Don't Read Me's = nostalga!
This is the one you want.
^^^ that doesn't work!!!!!!8-(I give up...A true original marathon fan signing off in frustration...8-(Pleas mods, do a step by step guide with links!!!!!
