I'm about 2/3 of the way through the book (got it earlier today). While the other four books left me with more questions than answers, this one is turning out to answer a ton of lingering questions that the other four books and the three games have asked. I won't give away any of the details so as not to ruin it for anyone, but I STRONGLY suggest reading this book, even if you haven't read the others. I think it will really open your eyes to the story as told throughout the rest of the Halo universe.
For those of you who have read the other books, I think you'll find that Staten's style of writing is very similar to Eric Nylund's (he wrote all the others with the exception of "The Flood" by William Dietz which covered the same story as the one covered in Halo 1). I was worried at first because I really enjoyed Nylund's work, while the one by Dietz didn't tell the story nearly as well (especially since most of the story was already known due to Halo 1).
