Time was, forums were "fun" you chatted to people, held contests, sent PMs and generally had a good time. Not now. Now even good forums like these are bombarded daily by leigions of dare I say it... New people, who make pages upon pages of posts, repeating each other and scrambling to get the first or longest reply. New Mombasa, as an example, is the reciever of topics such as "I'm SO disappointed at Halo 2" and "Poll: Who thinks Bungie should tweak the Battle Rifle". The Underground has lost it's days of intelligent people, and as I;ve scrolled back through the pages, I've seen half or even full pages of locked topics with titles such as "Who thinks the Banshee rules?" which are in both a bad forum, and secondly a waste of space.

So what have these forums come to? I've seen people quote The Flood as the last refuge for die-hard fans. and yet even our ranks have been infiltrated. I see topics in forums that have absolutely no meaning, Spammers who occasionally flll up a forum page with endless links and topics, and most of all... A Lack of common decency and etiquiete (sp?). People flame about the smallest of things (i.e. You're such a ****ing idiot because you think the Battle Rifle should shoot 1 shot when zoomed), I see 400 posts for a poll asking whether Halo 3 should be made, and yet a very important, dedicated, positive post by someone who spent 20 minutes on it goes unnoticed. And most of all... I see the people who simply will not accept they're wrong, who go back and doggedly refuse to give up and post their wasteful ideas.

So. Will anyone read this? Or will I be cast into one of the catagories I was talking about...

It's probably against the rules to complain about them, too. That's why I stopped.

Some years ago, I spend my days on a little forum devoted to Sega's Shining RPG series. It was a small community, you generally knew the members (who they were, what they did and so on and so forth) but at a time it grew somewhat bigger and older members started to leave. I follow them somewhat later. Since then I didn't join any forum because of many of the reasons mentioned in the first post and especially because of the brain-killing conduct of a lot of members - spamming/flaming/hating and the very anoying word-masacares they tend to conduct (N E 1 NOW WAT I MEEN??!!!). Well, finally I took the step to join here (after following the forums for some months) but I'm still not sure if I did right. At first I thought at correcting spammers and what not, but I can't keep up anymore. I don't seem to care anymore. Even the Library has become some dumping-grounds for whatever topic you like. And to think that barely a month ago, when I signed up, the Library recieved an average of 3 new topics a day. So, to conclude, yes, I am sad about forums. But you probably figured that out allready.

"Evil Prevails where good men do nothing".

Well if I wanted to feel “underground” and all “cool”. I’d probably pick a forum that wasn’t directly related to one of the most popular games of all time, much less on the company that made the game’s web site.
I definitely wouldn’t complain about the good ole’ days and new people when I’ve been a member of a forum for less than 6 months.

And god forbid you have to read the same thing more than once – I and everyone else that doesn’t come here every day for hours on end will now make a conscious effort to sift through the thousands upon thousands of posts to ensure that nothing is repeated, hell if we’re lucky we might run out of Halo 2 topics.
Moreover, I will no longer post topics about anything in the game seeing as Battle Rifle topics aren’t intelligent enough – I say everyone discuss the fiscal Chinese economy and the dire condition of the yen.

And yes it is against the rules to -blam!- about em’, it’s called flaming and Moderator Sticky has made it inescapably clear that whining about such things are forbidden.

So if you are looking for intellectual re-enforcement and etiquette, I’d look elsewhere – this is a forum for an “M” rated video game (spell it… v-i-d-e-o g-a-m-e) about blasting space aliens. You wouldn’t watch MTV for stock market information would you?

Do not fret, my friend. Intelligent people still lurk in the corners and shadows of these forums (mainly the Flood and the Septagon. Although we're trying to fight back at the Underground.) When an intelligent topic pops up, we reply and include our input. Yet intelligent topics are hard to come by these days so we usually find a decent chapter to attach to and chat there.

Ask, and we will come.

This must be heaven.

I have always had a deep respect for the community surrounding Bungie and the Halo saga. But it wasn't until Halo 2 was released that I decided to register and started roaming the forums.
But when all these insane topics with serious caps-lock issues began to fill my screen each day I was getting closer and closer to insanity.

However, someone said something about The Flood being the last refuge of intelligent people on the forums. And by the looks of things he/she was right. I hereby declare the other forums to be unworthy, until further notice. :)

There is a very thin line between intelligence and self-centered pride. Despite what you seem to think, everyone here is human, no more. You aren't much more, or possibly much less, than the ones you judge as being "stupid". In fact, I could call The Flood's arrogance just as stupid as New Mombasa's ignorance.

Tread carefully- don’t become what you hate.

Try pandemonium or any other chapter I'm a member of as a matter of fact. But they aren't time-based, they're intelligence-based.

There are members who daily attempt to report every spam they find and try to calm down every flamer they find. Every day I tire of it a little more.

FIPA is similar to the NMST, except we don't flame, we don't fight stupid with stupid, and we try our damndest never to sound like "L337"'s.

Also, my chapter, The Flood Few, was made to be an alternative to New Mombasa (No flames, spams, repeted threads)

Links to both are in my Sig.

Hey, Texan Ben, are you sure it was a good idea to post a link to The Arbiters? It's out in the open, where idiots can stumble upon it.
