Hey everyone. I know a lot of people are unhappy with the results of the Spike TV video game awards, but in looking for the results themselves, I came across this web page from gamespy which reviewed the awards for 2003. Check it out:
Gamespy page
You will be amazed at the similarities with this year's award ceremony and last year's, especially among titles that won, and how elligable they actually were to be the winners. The recurring urban theme is even more apparent, with a lot of rap performances, rap-hosts, and rapper award introductions. Now i'm not targeting this urban setting as anything bad, but instead am just pointing out how the urban setting seems to reflect upon awards themselves. Looking at the recent awards this year, with San Andreas winning game of the year....did anyone even notice the theme screen for the category itself? It was all broken down cars, a ghetto, and gangster-type figures....
In all fairness, San Andreas arguably won fairly, since it had exposure over multiple platforms (larger fan base?), and didn't seem to have the same issue as Halo 2 did with fulfilling hype. Now the question arises; was this something that we as Halo 2 gamer fans caused? Did we overhype the title to godly proportions? Maybe there really is just a larger fan base for San Andreas....?
