hey

is there anyone else out there who thinks theres a sucky tie breaker system that halo 2 uses for matchmade games like team skirmish: 1 flag ctf??? When there is a tie between the teams, the red team for some reason automatically gets the win, which i think is unbelievably stupid. especially since the games give u 2 chances to score. so if red team stops u once, they just need to score once out of the next 2 rounds and they automatically win. i think that really needs to be changed. the blue team is the underdog, and for some reason they also have an extra disadvantage because of the way the system works. i cant begin to count how many games we've come in second even tho we tied the other team. the best way me and my friends could come up with to deal with tie-breakers would be to judge the performance of each team. for example, give the win to the team who scored the flag faster, or the one who had better kill death ratios, or anything along those lines to ensure the the team who plays better gets the win. i definately think they need to fix that. wat do u guys think?

I was just going to start this thread today but then I see it up here. I don't think that it is red that wins, it is the last score. Imagine if hockey or football or basketball adopted this system. Everyone would say that it makes no sense. As it is, it makes no sense. And before you go flaming me because "oh but you love it when you win". No I don't and I really haven't met anyone oline that does. It truely cheapens the victory for everyone but rank-whores. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief when they see that they are on the red team because it gives you a significant advantage. Now I know the next thing you are going to say - "learn how to play defense better". Quite obviously if you played defense well enough to tie, you should deserve the tie (or somekind of overtime round or a tie breaker that makes some sense - most kills, most medals, kills-deaths, flag or bomb kills, fastest time to score - I can list a dozen more that would make some sense if you want me to.
Don't get me wrong, this is not another "Bungie, you're terrible, you should have done this." post. I am a huge fanboy of Halo and I doubt many of you spend as much time playing, reading about it, reading the books, involving myself with various halo communities etc., as I do. But this does not mean that Bungie is infallable, they are in fact human.
Since nobody is going to agree 100% about what the tie breaker should be (and I'm sure that some people find the current system fine), I think the best solution would be to have a sticky with a poll up for a bunch of different tie breaker options and let the community decide by voting. One IP address per vote, of course.

One last, off topic, comment. Bungie, you would make my life and the lives of alot of other people who are regulars to these forums a lot easier if you would add some search functionality to the forums. This is the only forum I can think of that doesn't have a search.

i think if its a tie they should have a tie breaker where two teams start on a desert or somewhere blank no guns and they race for the flag you can punch eah other and first to get the flag back to base (which is only a few yards away so it shouldnt take long) wins

Even though when the match is over red wins, if you look on Bungie.net you'll see that it was really a tie.

No, that's not true. I have been tracking this over XBL and Bungie.net and here it is:

1. The last score wins
2. That score counts towards your Games Played:Wins ratio on your stats page.

This system would be unfair unless you add in the fact that everyone's chances of being on the red or blue team is equal. There's nothing saying you are going to be red more than blue. Therefore it is equal.

Why couldn't a tie be left at a tie?

It goes against your Games Played:Wins ratio because you don't win the game so you don't get a win but you do get a games played. If you look at the game on bungie.net it will say that you both got 1st. You just don't get a win for it but you don't get a loss. At least that is what I believe or hope.
