Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

My PC runs it fine and has a Pentium 4/Pentium D.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Pentium Ds can outperform the Allendale cores at stock speeds. Unfortunately everyone buys an Allendale to overclock. If your board can't do it, get the Conroe.

you're definitely gonna need to spend more than 480 dollars. im gonna say at least 7-800 and uou'd be lucky if youcan find it that cheap. if you want i can give you a couple coupons to dell where you get 350 off and machine that costs 1000 or more, although i dont really like dell that much, they're not bad computers. just dont like them for some odd reason

i agree with the 1st poster. a C2D should be fine, 2 gb ram, and i'd go with an 8600gt, since you dont have too much money to spare

It was the second poster (me) that said the c2d and btw, a geforce 8500GT should be good enough fro halo 2 on medium and 2xAA at 1024x768.

Keep and eye on newegg.com

They run some great deals and they change daily. I have a buddy at work who built a screamin' dual cpu rig from parts only from newegg and got er done for roughly $600.

Isn't newegg US only?

I do believe it is US only. However there is a Canadian site with some very good deals on it. Can't remember it right now, but I'll post it if I find out.

K heres what I recommend for a PC that wont blow ass when playing.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E5500 or better
RAM: No less than 2 gigs.
Motherboard: Not sure on this. I personally would go with an nforce chipset though.
GPU: For med performance go with a AMD X1650Pro or Nvidia 7800 or better
For high performance go with an AMD X1950Pro or HD 2900XT Or Nvidia 8800GT*/GTS/GTX/Ultra
Hard drive: Any SATA hard drive over 40 GB will do.

*I don't think the GT has been released, but the benchmarks show it out performing the GTS

Yeah, newegg has cheaper prices. e.g. Although the tigerdirect Xbox 360 can be cheaper, its refurbrished. But the animal tiger is cool.

Video card: Radeon X1650 or GeForce 7600+

I have a Pentium D, and it runs just fine. I used to play H2V with an Nvidia 6200 TC (Turbo Cache). It ran it like utter crap. I could only play the game with all the settings on Low, and the framerate... well, it was just terrible. There was always mouse/controller aim-lag, and sometimes the framerate was really inconsistent on single player.

So yeah, I just a got a new card (ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT), and let me tell you, it runs the game like butter. I can run it on high, but there are some inconsistencies, and it can be kinda bleh at times, and the framerate isn't too good. But if I run it on Medium, it runs SUPER smooth, and the game still ends up looking really damn good, and never having any hiccups.

I'll bet you're looking for a good rig that can you play Halo 2, but still be at budget price, right? Well, I recommend you get either an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GT, or an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. Those cards are very, very damn good at a very reasonable price. About $80 - $90 bucks depending on where you buy.

So if all you want to do is play H2V, a Pentium 4, D, or anything above will do just fine. Get a 60 GB or so HDD, one of the two previously mentioned cards (I'd recommend the ATI one. It may have less VRAM, but it has GDDR3 to push that good stuff around faster :D. Also, Nvidia cards don't support Antia-Aliasing and HDR at the same time... it says you can... but you can't. Invidia lost their -blam!- =[)

Meow.

EDIT: I forgot to mention RAM. The absolute LEAST you'll need to run H2V will be 1 gig. That thing can be such a little RAM whore. Whenever I run H2V, I have to disable all visual themes, exit a bunch of programs, and set H2V's priority as High in the Task Manager. Otherwise, it'll just be unbearably slow, and freeze. I'd recommend getting 2 gigs of RAM. But just 1 is the absolute bearable minimum.

thanks I'm having a look at a catoulog for a distribution warehouse near where I live. The cheapest case for about $40 has 4 External drive bays, 3 internal drive bays Micro ATX motherboard, 2 front USB 2.0 ports, front audio port, Standard ATX 7 Slots not sure what that means and a Winpower ATX 450W (20 + 4 Pin) PSU not sure what that means either.
Hard drive 80gb IDE hard drive for about $44.
Kingston DDR400 Ram, type M1GB-K 1gb for about $50 or DDR2-667 , type M1GB667-K 1gb for about $34. x 2 = $68
Intel Processor Core 2 Duo E4400 2x 2.0GHZ 2Mb Cache Retail for about $134.the DVD drives are all around $30 does it matter what type?
and a case fan for $1.20
And I think thats it so that adds up to about $317.20
correct me if I missed anything off appart from graphics cards, coz there not mentioned in the catoulog.

Edit: What type of graphics card could I get? also I might have to go with a different case for the same price with no motherboard still for $40

A-POD 400W ATX CASE - WHITE
External drive bays: 4 x 5.25" & 2 x 3.5"
Internal drive bays: 4 x 3.5"
Fan Set: Rear: 8/9/12cm, Front: 8/9/12cm
ATX Form factor: 12" x 10.5" or smaller
Front I/O: 2 x USB2.0 ports / Audio ports
7 x Standard ATX slots

then I could get a different motherboard from about $40 - $80, tell me what type I should get
here is a selection with the some of the details, the place I'm getting the parts from has a website http://www.ash-distribution.co.uk if you want to look there and help me decide?
