I'm not trying to troll,

Ahahahahahaha, good one.

Because I posted my honest opinion I am a troll. Sorry if I didnt post something like "oh great spotlight". I figured he would gather more useful information from reading criticism than brown nosing. Just looking, I think you find brown nosing easier.

I don't care what your opinion is, you just come off as a troll. It's not your intent but that's just the way I see things.

No you didn't.

Fair enough, but why do you feel the need to completely disparage him? I mean calling him a failure, that it sucked, that his grammar and spelling is atrocious, and how he shouldn't make any more? Isn't that a little bit harsh?

I can appreciate the informal tone and goofy nature, but if you don't what's wrong with saying, "I didn't like it" and moving on?

So, as far as I can tell, Mike is just trying to post a fun little spotlight, and CE Carbinator and Public Enemy, (for all we know are the same people), are sitting here viciously criticizing and insulting him. Sheesh, grow up guys.

Great spotlight, Mike. ;) Keep 'em coming.

Hmm, could explain the fake email accounts in their profiles.
Of course I could be wrong :P

Anyways it was nice to read a community spotlight.
Its been a while since I saw one.

Why do you both focus on the part where I mentioned you could possibly be the same person?

The point of my post was that you both seem extremely willing to hurl insults at Mike. It's not even constructive criticism. You're both being jerks, you should cut it out. He did a fine job.

It was more of me making assumpitons since those seemed like a quick "off the top of one's head" sort of names to use when making a fake email.

Anyways, aren't we getting a bit too off topic with the recent discussions?

Does anyone remember when Bungie would do community spotlight. I think it was a long time ago (around may-july?)

KP used to get us one every week or so, didn't he? After he left, the community spotlight once again receded to the murky depths of Older News.

There is a PM system here at b.net. If you were honestly trying to give constructive criticism, you couldve PM'ed him.

On a different note, I think Captain K Mart is wrong, you're not a troll, but you are a dick.

Good Job Mike, keep em coming.

So you dont care what my opinion is, but you call me a troll for posting my opinion? A paradox

Yes it is a paradox. To me, I could care less if someone adds criticism to my post or someone else's. I think criticism shows the author what is wrong with their statements so that they can go back and fix them. If someone brings to me a point where I am in fact wrong, then I will do my best to acknowledge the fact that I am wrong and need to change some things. If I cannot acknowledge it, I would wish the people who told me would at least be accepting and tolerable of my view.

About the spotlight, I liked it, more so because it was about The Slayer than anything, but it was more worth reading than most of the items here. Discovering what other people are like is a good start in making a good community.

My advice, quit arguing about arguing. It doesn't matter if someone is "trolling", learn to deal with the way people talk. Just because they may talk differently and more harshly than you doesn't mean they are wrong.

  • 11.02.2007 10:50 AM PDT

Well, erm........it definitely looked like two 15 year olds talking to each other. I wasn't sure if Mike was interviewing himself or slayer with the "so yeah I did make a name for myself" and talking about his own GT.

Constructive criticism? The idea behind interviewing someone is to give your audience insight into the person you're interviewing. I didn't learn anything about slayer except his age and first name. I don't know where's he's from, his hobbies, interests, family life, school life, dreams and aspirations, funny or interesting life stories, nothing.

Hopefully I wasn't too harsh, and better luck next time Mike. Keep at it!

Rawr, you posted negativity and youre in the trolls..... YOU TROLL

Just playing. But that is the same impression that I got. It seemed like a forum advertisement for mike d halo king, not a real interview, or anything else.

I agree that the post could use some more information on the person, but he's learning. You don't have to be extremely harsh or cruel, as you were in your earlier posts. For some reason a lot of people around here have the idea that you have to be extremely mean to give encouragement, make them see your side of the argument, or just in random discussions.

There's time when you have to be harsh and to the point about things, but this is not one of those times. Being to the point is a good thing, but you don't have to be a jerk about it. :D

Mike, my overall advice? More questions about his life, and what he likes to do. Don't be too general, either, because that seems to always give you the answer "Um, I'm just a cool guy. I don't know what else to say."

But the point is, I was posting a contrast to everyone else. People are posting things like GREAT INTERVIEW, when they dont even believe it, Sketto reference again, instead of posting anything remotly useful or even honest.
To be honest though, PE, your post was noticeably and needlessly harsher than it should've been. If you read my post on the first page, I did not say that it was a great interview, because I honestly think that it could use some improvement. But I said so in a polite manner and gave extensive helpful suggestions for next time. I've actually been doing these community interviews on BNet for almost a year now, so I know how much effort it really takes to set something like this up. If you're going to do it well (and KP did not do it as well as he could have, in my opinion, although he was gifted at humorous writing), it takes time and effort, and I wanted Mike to know that I noticed that he's been putting more time into it and that I had some good suggestions for him to continue to improve.

If you could give your suggestions and criticism in a less harsh manner, you would probably see less backlash, I think. :-)

If you are planning to create one of these all of the time he should have took the effort to create in-depth questions, check his spelling, and ask his mom to check his grammar. (I can tell he is a little kid)

His minor mistakes do not give you justification to call him a failure and to say that he should never make another spotlight again. I mean, why did you have to be so harsh on him?

Again, what's wrong with saying you didn't like it and moving on?

I find it hilarious when some other random poster asked if she can make community spotlights and someone said to let Mike continue doing it. he sucks at it so bad.

Don't be bitter. Don't take out your anger on not being able to do a community spotlight on Mike.

It's not his fault, and outright trashing his spotlight isn't going to help your cause.

  • 11.02.2007 12:26 PM PDT

Now listen, sure there are some things he could have worked on (those things have definatley been listed more then once), but is it really necassary to tell him to kiss off and hit the road? I shall answer my own question, no, that is not necassary at all. Practice makes perfect, sure there will be a little bumps in the road on the way there, but I feel that Mike should keep doing this and he really will succede. He has already come a far way from his previous attempts aswell. And to those thinking this was some kind of ego boosting interview, that is just simply inane. Shall I show why this is inane? I say hey, why the heck not. These were Mike's original threads on how to be interviewed and what it is all about: The Intro ; The process. So come on everyone, let's show Mike our support and some good ol' proper criticism. Great job Mike, I especially recommend reading Foman's guide on the first page. Keep it up and it was a pleasure :)
