If this is going to be a true community spotlight, why are we voting on only five people? (all of which most of us have never heard of and probably are Mike's Halo friends)

IMO, the people interviewed should be people of interest. Like ninjas, or how bout the dude who just got the Recon armor for killing himself with a traffic cone or the one who sniped himself? If it's going to be random people, then leave the voting open to everyone, not just Mike's friends.

Now you see, I agree with that whole heartedly. I say, why not interview...well...everyone? But yes, an interview of the people you listed would also be a good idea aswell (maybe more of a priority for them, I myself would really just like to see everyone here interviewed, be it a ninja or not). I really don't know what else to say. And by the way, I had never actually met Mike before, it was pretty random if you ask me.

Which is why i questioned the reason for this thread.

First: I had never met any of these people before I did this.
second: Earlier you asked: "Was I the only person who took the time to read this thing?" Then you asked me how old I was, when that information is in the interview.
Third: I will take your constructive criticism on board, but i will ignore your Insults,
and as for the Square root thing, you try not sleeping for 3 days and then figuring out any simple math problem.

All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

I'll win next time.

Why do all you people criticize him?
At least he is doing something for the community! What the hell do you guys do besides complaining of others not doing things good enough?
Lame bastards.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I think this was an excellent interview Mike. I appreciate that you're trying to do something for this community, and I'll always respect you for doing it. This community needs more users like you man.

Its true that your technique needs some improvement, and some of the more helpful members have given you the tools with which you can do just that. You'll keep improving, and I'll at least be nothing but happy as a result.

As to some of the posts in this topic, there is constructive criticism, and then there is just being an ass. Constructive criticism is pointing out the errors in a body of work. Being an ass is adding adjectives to that criticism in order to try to hurt the person who created the body of work. Constructive criticism is telling the creator of the body of work what they should improve, being an ass is telling them that they won't get any better and that they should stop trying.
Constructive criticism is tolerable and even encouraged on these boards, being an ass is not. Being an ass violates our "play nice" directive.

You don't really have to be nice, but you should not be an out and out jerk. So, since I believe this thread is something that's actually trying to improve the conditions in this community, please stop turning it into a medium for pointless bickering. If you post something that might help Mike continue to improve, awesome. If you're only posting to deride him, don't bother pressing the reply button.

Maybe you should do a community spotlight on people who the community actually cares about - Bungie employees, moderators, admins of popular groups? ANYONE other than random people that very little people know of. I looked at your first thread with the poll about this and to me it just looked like a popularity contest.

I don't like the idea of community spotlights being done by members anyways. The choice of interviewees are mostly very biased, which I think is what happened here.

Actually, I like that he is interviewing members. I think he could pick some more prominant members, but I have heard of The Slayer before, as well as most of the original list of candidates. I really like learning about members, and that there is a bit less attention on the mods and admins. Although, it would be cool to see a few interviews with either moderators or Bungie.net admins. Also, I think you shouldn't talk for the community. I'm not either, and there is no way you could know what the community wants.

I would definitely agree that being more well-known and active in the community should be the main criteria for picking who to interview. After all, the old Spotlights were meant to illuminate those who had really contributed, whether it be an individual or an organization.

I suppose the ninjas could be an option, since they're the ones that are keeping order on the forums, but we shouldn't restrict ourselves to that. I think that anyone who contributes actively in the community should get a chance to be shoved into the spotlight.

Possibly a Bungie staffer could be thrown into the mix somewhere, but I'd imagine that a lot of them are currently crunching on the almighty DLC or planning for the much-vaunted Next Projectâ„¢, so there might not be too much time to talk to a lot of them. Marty would probably be out of the question, unless you bribed Anelf into acting as a bridge to get to him.

Piss off with your sad attempt at a bungie.net father figure post. We both know that you are lying when you say that this is an excellent interview, so lets drop the bull-blam!-. There are two types of responses in this thread, honest responses, and dishonest responses. I'm sorry if I don't feel the need to lie so that I don't look bad in front of the Septagon cliques and that I instead post the honest brutal truth. You say that there is a play nice rule, yet you are calling people asses, so why don't you hop off of your high horse, remove your head from your ass, and stop trying to impress people with your ignorant ass kissing. If he wanted people to suck his dick and say nice interview, maybe he should have just PMed it to you and the rest of the regular -blam!- suckers, but if he wanted to get the real honest truth, maybe he should read our posts.

Everyone knows this thread is simply a pile of -blam!- designed to get attention for Mike D, we also know that it isn't helping the community at all, regardless of how many times you ass kissers say it. So maybe instead of lying and dick sucking, you could stop lying, tell him this interview blows, and let him know that it needs a lot of improvement. So here is the truth. This thread blows, the interview has the same quality of one which would be written down on construction paper with crayons, and as for your post. Your post is a sad attempt at ass kissing, full of crap, and in need of a reality check. Well guess what dick lips, I am that reality check.

So go ahead and ban me for posting the honest truth, but the fact of the matter is that this thread and your post are on the same level as your moderating. I mean how ignorant do you have to be to tell someone they are breaking the rules, then break the same rule in the same post. Now, you have two choices. Either A. you can stop lying to mike and hop off my dick or you can B. keep lying, keep dick riding, and have this little kid keep posting these terrible interviews. Your choice.

I'm curious as to whether or not you read the post you quoted. He didn't say the interview was perfect, he said it was a good idea, and that he respects him for doing something to truly help and entertain the community. This isn't a professional site. The interview doesn' t need to be perfect. But, for me, it served it's purpose, but could still use some work.

Evilcam also was telling you that what you were saying wasn't necessarily incorrect, but it was the way you were saying it. You don't need to tell Mike his interview blows, you could say it needs improvement. It's not the content of your posts, it's the way in which you were saying them. And, if you were to be banned for your post, it wouldn't be for saying the truth, it would be for the way you said it, which was the most disrespectful way you possibly could have.

Actually he was telling me not to post anymore because I refuse to sugarcoat my criticism.

No, really, he just saying how you were being an ass rather then helpful.

Please, tell me, how is giving constructive criticism being a kissass? There's no need to be an -blam!-. People will read what you say, so there's no need to be a jerk about it. I love to see how you don't address the fact that you both were being jerks. That was unnecessary. There's ways to tell people how to make improvements without acting like a jerk. Also, you are guessing about the fact he was doing this for attention. I am pretty sure Mike has done other Community Spotlights, and they are always a good thing. Telling him not to do them again is not necessary.

This isnt addressed to me, but I must say, I'm sure I couldve said it a lot worse. The point that CE is trying to make is that this interview isnt very good and that everyone shouldnt be overly nice about it. I find more value in an honest dick than a dishonest ass kisser.

You can say that it needs improvement, and that you didn't like it without calling Mike a "failure".

There's a difference between giving your honest opinion, and completely bashing someone.

Stop sending me group invites -blam!-s!

I'd be surprised if mike does another interview with the way everyone is harassing him.

I enjoy that you pick apart my points because of certain things I said, when you know exactly what I meant. Why can't you just answer whatever I was saying? I realize I make mistakes, but it's easy enough to figure out what I'm saying. So, in case it was too hard, I was basically saying when you critique someone, you don't need to be a jerk to them. You can offer them ways to make what they were saying better.

To sketto, I dont know if you are addressing me either, but judging by the quote you are. To correct you(and I would appreciate it if people would take the time to know what they were talking about before posting), I never once used the word failure, in any of the three pages of this thread. I did use the word fail one time, because he, much like you, said that I made a statement, which i never made.

If you read the quote ---instead of just looking at who made it-- you would find that you were talking about Carbinator's conduct. So to correct you (and I would appreciate it if people would take the time to know what they were talking about before posting), I was addressing you but not about your conduct. I mean, like you said you never called mike a failure, and I never said I had a problem with your response to mike; so why would I be talking about your conduct?

Anyways, there's no point in Carbinator's response. There's no need to call Mike a failure. That's not giving an honest response that's bashing someone, and it's also unfairly harsh.
