Welcome to Bungie.net
I'm not very good at showing anyone the ropes, but what the heck. :)
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you joined because of Halo 3. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry, but if I'm right, please direct anything Halo 3 related to the Halo 3 forum. I know it sounds like common sense but Halo 3 topics get posted everywhere. I see that your gamertag is linked, if you want to share any gamestypes, maps, screenshots, or videos, take those to the appropriate forums also (H3 File Forums).
If you'd like to talk about pretty much anything (minus religion, politics, blogs, and your love-life) go visit The Flood. Be warned, there are a lot of "regulars" there who like to smart-off to newer members who may make mistakes. Just ignore them, you'll grow thick skin in no time (there are jerks in every forum, like I said, just ignore them).
Right now you're posting in the Community Forum. Obviously you'd talk about anything community related here (improvements to the site, bugs you notice with the site, etc.)
If you've got any suggestions for the Matchmaking System in Halo 2 or 3, direct those posts to the Optimatch forum.
Most of my brief explanations are pretty much common sense. Common sense is probably the best tool you can have on this site. I'm not going to go into anymore detail on the forums, but I urge you to at least skim through the stickied threads at the top of each forum. You can get rid of a lot of confusion that way.
Thread Posting Habits:
Before you post a thread, ask yourself these two questions...
Has this been posted before? We have a search feature; it's not the best search feature but at least try using it before you post a topic that you think may have been posted before.
By posting this, am I contributing anything to promote discussion? Posting random topics with little to no value is considered spam and will probably be locked.
I can't stress enough how much you should use common sense. Just think how you would act if you were in person with these people. There's a face and personality behind every Bungie.net person. Sure the anonymity you have by being online will still affect the way you post, but try not to take things too far.
Basically, read the stickies, be cautious of when you post a new thread, ignore people who may flame and harrass you, and just use common sense. With how much traffic this site has got lately, the moderators (the guys and gal with orange text and custom avatars) have had to crack down a lot lately. Ignorance is not an excuse to get out of punishment.
I know this guide is rushed and pretty lousy (here's a link to a better set of guides), but if you have any questions, feel free to send a private message to me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I spend far too much time on Bungie.net, so you probably will get a speedy reply.
Luck be with you. :)
