Hi all,

I wonder if someone could point me to some details about the (if any) differences between the OEM and retail versions of Halo: Combat Evolved? I received the OEM version with an Audigy 2 ZS Gamer some time ago (has a CD key on the sleeve).

thanks in advance

To be completely honest mate, I shouldn't think there is any difference at all. If there is that would suck but I can't see it... Have you got yourself Halo CE yet?

No CE, In fact I have not yet even played the OEM that came with the hardware. I was more wondering about the differences other than the standard differences such as - no manual, no fancy box etc. I would agree that it should be the full version esp. since it came with a CD key. How would one go about figuring that this would be = retail version? The folks at Creative Labs are quite confused as well it seems. They use the words "should be" and "supposed to be" when answering my queries...... sad.......

by the way, not to sound lazy/ignorant (although it would not be the first time), I cannot find a search function on this forum....

regards

Well, the game should contain a manual on the disk. Apart from that everything WILL be exactly as it is in the retail version. So, have you not played Halo at all on the PC?

Nope, not played yet. In fact, there is a good chance I will not play it (as the card and all games are a gift for my young one). Just wanting to confirm if I receifved what I payed for is all....

Besides, Doom 3, HL2 and Painkiller are tying me up just now ;-)

Always a good 'reason' to get another game... Hehehe! Congrats on finding another addiction and be sure to grab yourself a copy of Halo CE for free... Exceptional for the price...

Heyyo,

That's it, that's the only diff dude. No box, no manual, no extras, just the disk and the game.

OEM = Original Electronics Manufactured, so just the bare bones, no extras. So having an OEM version ain't the end of all days, you still get the full product.

I'll give you another example of OEM, this time hardware.

I bought an OEM sony cd burner. It came inna static bag with just a nero express cd. I was actually amazed it even came with the nero express cd actually. :p

[EDIT]
Oh, I gotta Creative SB Audigy gamer, n' I should've bought a sb live... mine came with deus ex 1 (greate game, w00t!) and giants: citizen kabuto (meh... half decent game, I don't really like it actually...). SV Live's game with UT1, which rules.

basically, the only difference is oem doesnt have the box, sometimes has no manual, and has very little packaging that makes the retail prodict all the more appealing and *s*h*i*n*y*
