Subject: De-linkage

I use my screen name (SPARTANofSPEED) in everything that requires a screen name. I recently changed my screen name on XBL, and I am trying to change everything else accordingly. Since you cannot delete you BNet account, and you cannot change the name of an already existing BNet account, I was planning on getting a new account. However, I have my GT linked to my BNet account, and I would want to re-link it to my new one. Is there a way I could make a new account and be able to re-link my gamertag to it, while de-linking it from my current one?

If this is not a viable solution, please explain what you would do in my shoes.

Supposedly there's a way. You have to "unlink" your GT, then relink it. Section 5.2

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Sadly, that doesn't work. Nothing works. :|

I've never seen it work. Ever.

But I just tell people that to get their hopes up.

Bungie.net members do not have the power to delete their own account or change their display name manually. However, your account, if inactive for one year, would automatically be deleted. Signing in with the same login information would take you to profile creation, thus allowing you to "change" your display name by creating a new account. The only other way would be to beg and plead to the powerful Bungie.net overlords and maybe, just maybe, they'll hear your cries and decide to help. Send an email to bnetbugs@microsoft.com and explain the situation (be sure to include what you want your account name to be). Please note that they hardly ever grant these requests unless there is a real extraordinary reason to.

On a short note, I believe closing your Windows Live ID account would also "unlink" it from your Bungie.net account, however, you would then be unable to sign into that account. That also might cause another problem, considering the Xbox Live account associated with it would also have to be closed in order to do so. In my opinion, having a Bungie.net display name different than your Xbox Live gamertag isn't necessarily a bad thing and I don't think waiting a year in order to pick a new name would be beneficial in the meantime. You would not only be preventing yourself from signing into your account that is linked to your gamertag, but would also not be able to receive the most ideal experience possible on Bungie.net.

Maybe? Are you crazy? Achronos will never change anyones screen name. Ever.

It took tons of begging for even Jeremiah to get his name changed, and he was a contractor!

Ok, tell me if this is a retarded idea.

What if I made a new Windows Live ID, then made a new BNet account that has my new screen name using that new Windows Live ID. Then I change the Windows Live ID associated with my gamertag to this new one. That would, in theroy, have solved my problem, because I'd have my BNet profile correct, my gamertag would be linked to the new one, and my current one would have my old Windows Live ID attached to it, with no valid gamertag associated.
