It doesn't need to be a specific rule.

I don't think "mentioning" someone's join date should warrant a punishment.

Yes but basing all of their posts and excluding them from certain things because of their join date should.

Explain the exclusion part, please.

And the bashing should be covered by the original rules.

Nobody used the term mentioning, the term she used was attacking. So, mentioning a date shouldnt warrant a punishment, but saying "you joined last week you dont know what your talking about" is elitism, and should be punished. Are you trying to keep this allowed because you do it?

I know, I just wanted to make sure that wasn't what you were talking about.

If the topic is the history of the community, and a new member says something that they wouldn't know about, I don't see anything wrong with a member politely reminding them that they are a new member.

Am I trying to keep this allowed? Since when is it allowed to bash a new member simply because they are new? I don't know what you are getting at.

[url=http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=14093588& amp;postRepeater1-p=1]Here is a perfect example of how a whole legitimate thread can get derailed because "forum regulars" feel the need to point out join dates. It's quite sad.

Come on, you know who flavor flav is; and how because of that the thread was destined to be derailed. That is a far from perfect example.

The older users feel that the new people are not as forum s a v v y as they are and like to point it out to either flame or discredit them.
It is a cheap tactic and pointless too.

My join date is 1/31/2006, but I have been around here since before then. New accounts open all the time
This "elitism" is only a way of brown nosing and attention grabing to the mods and ninjas.

Its like when a new baby comes along in a family, Little Jake isnt the favorite anymore so he picks on the baby and wants everyone to like him more

This almost follow the lines of calling people a "n00b" or "newbie". The mods and ninjas don't tolerate it, and you get a warning and then a ban.
But if you inform someone that they are new and may be mistaken about a subject (Politely) then it should be ok, within reason.

It isnt Black or White, this is a big grey area

I thought harassment of other members already carried it's own punishment. Using their join date as some tool for harassment falls into that category. I'm pretty sure if moderators see it, they usually do something about it.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

What you're not realising is that Elitism is like Communism. It's in no means a bad thing fundamentally. Only when run improperly does it cause problems.

Sorry dude I don't have a link. It was back in I think May, I may have to search...

But yeah some girl said that the Flood is very immature and one poster (I shall keep anonymous) told her to go back to the Halo 3 Forum because she's new and she isn't wanted "here". And evilcam quoted him saying "QFT"

Thats ok.

Hmm, this makes me think a bit on whats is going on in the community.
At least its good to hear other sides of whats going on.

The Flood is a haven for flaming, even by mods. Sometimes people are just dumb and need to be burned.
If someone is just naive and has legitimate reason for asking something or saying something, then flaming is just rude,
but if they come in saying "Warz ma rekonz @ " and they joined a month ago, you may flame, and same with the kid who says marathon was a MMORPG and acts like he has played the game for years, but never really played. Flame on.

GRAY AREA...

Sometimes its ok, sometimes its not.
Its the mods discretion and if you have an issue with a person doing things like that, report them.
If the mod/ninjas don't do anything, oh well, its not the end of the world. Suck it up.
