Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

I'll tell you what, as a peace offering, I will remove all of my posts prior to this.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I wouldn't.

Best you leave them for others to read. Things just look bad when I'm yelling at you for things you didn't say anymore!

I think everything I've said is quoted somewhere in here.

EDIT: Thats fine, thanks twinkie

For future reference, you might not want to let someone with intentions more evil than mine cause you to derail your own thread.

$10 says there was a mod somewhere with his pointer over the Lock Thread button, or at the very least over the BL button!

But...but...we got to gether so well at the end! Have they no...Christmas spirit?!

I am a Floodian

We don't need a rule about mentioning join dates because flaming is already covered in the rules. Anyone is flamed for making a stupid remark, not just new members.

Cry me a river, build me a bridge, and get over it.

You're getting a lump of coal.

I'll be on my own side.

I love how people spiral off into pages of mundane disagreements, talking about themselves for about 90% of the time, or going out of their way to point out how someone broke the rules (despite the fact that moderators obviously have seen it). What happened to combating elitism?

See, this is another problem I have with the septagon. Nothing against you twinkie, but you really shouldve been banned/warned for a number of things, and to my knowledge you werent. I mean you flamebaited, called names, posted off topic, etc. and you even admitted to derailing the thread. I'm not saying this to attack you, I'm simply saying that it is strange to me that things like this are allowed/ignored/not seen/whatever you wanna, say in the septagon.

Because the best way to learn is on your own. If moderators simply locked everything and banned everyone immediately upon rule infraction, then we'd have no time to correct ourselves.
Moderators should not be necessary. We as community members should be able to control ourselves. The first step towards this goal is being able to attone for our mistakes. It's punishement enough, no?

Probably because they don't care, since it's not the end of the world, there's no flame war, and there wasn't much of a topic to get derailed in the first place.

Hell, I'd let it go, because it's amusing.

It's all about finesse. A good debate is like a spider web. Sure, you can usually go from point A directly to B, but taking side-threads and back-tracking a little bit allows the bigger, much more beautiful, picture to be seen.

Youre right, moderators shouldnt be necessary, but when they see someone clearly being a jackass, something should be done. I'm not saying ban him, but I mean after 3 years he knows the rules, and should be held to them.

Twinkie apologized, or at least did something close enough to it. Isn't it a little mean of you to beat a dead horse? Move on to bigger and better things, ya know?

You're right, but does that really apply here? Come on, even you should be able to admit that this topic isn't really much of a topic. It's simple; using arbitrary dates as leverage in any kind of argument falls under general stupidity, which usually gets topics locked and people banned. This is addressed already, so why the need for a topic?

A valid point.

However, this is a public forum. And there are a lot of other threads that that kind of comment can apply to.

The reason there wasnt a flamewar is because I didnt insult him back, so next time I should just call him a dick for calling me a troll and let the mods ban away? That is stupid. Also, that is your opinion on the topic. Personally I thought it had merit or i wouldnt have posted it. Either way, that means that topics which you dont find valuable should be allowed to be drug off topic right? If you dont see the problems in that, I dont know what else to tell you.

I never said that. Post whatever you like, flame whoever you like, I don't care. What I said was that this topic isn't all that important, so the mods probably don't care that it gets derailed. If it was important, they'd be putting in more effort to keep it clean of spam, don't you think?

If there's some food you don't like in the fridge, would you really care if it went rotten? Doubtful, since you didn't like it in the first place.

Sure, but I'm not about to go around and point that out in every single thread. I don't care enough, nor would it make a difference. Yeah, it's a public forum, I'm just pointing out that this has been addressed before.

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

I agree with Nedus. Elitism really isn't a problem here anymore. Even if it does show up, it is really confined to a couple forums and even that only a few threads a month.

  • 11.02.2007 4:59 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

Yeah, anyone who says "GTFOing", or takes an analogy out of context can't be that smart.

Anyways, I'll say it again, the topic was addressed a long time ago, and the mods probably don't care about the topic and are probably using it for amusement.

Well of course not. While it'd be extremely funny to watch someone do that, I would never suggest it seriously. As we both can probably agree, I was merely making a point. Sorry for the confusion.
