you need a video card that has at least 32 mb ram and supports transform and lighting (t&l)

there are some cheap ones out there that are this way, but frankly speaking they suck.

the bare minimum i would suggest is a ati radeon 9200 128 mb. but if you want nice frame rates at decent resolution, ati radeon 9600 pro or xt is the way to go, unless you want to go even farther...

i need to compare the nvidia cards to ati ones, cause i really dont know much about nvidia, except the new ones. all i know is ati kicks nvidia a$$ in all but one occasion
SLI!

To be honest, I wouldn't play if I had anything less than a 128mb card. A few of my mates have only got a 64mb card and thier graphics completely suck.

It all comes down to how much you want to enjoy your gaming really, don't you think?

Heyyo,

Very nicely put there Hero, couldn't have said it much better myself. ;)

Remember this though dude, toms hardware is your best friend when it comes to benchmarking. :)

Note: for average graphics cards? ati takes the lead each time, heck, the ATI Radeon 9600 PRO nearly beats NV GF4 FX5700, which's supposed to be a much better videocard! :o

I can't comment on Ati cards... The only Ati I ever had was err, not good. That was somewhat out of date though and Halo had "serious issues" with it...

Hehehe... That always makes me laugh. I imagine Halo taking it outside for a good kicking... lol.

My Ati Rage Pro?... That was a LONG LONG time ago dude. I originally replaced it with an FX5200. Not brilliant, but at least that one works without any real problems!

well when i have enough money ill probably be using a nividia graphics card that is a generation or 2 behind the brand new one when i build my own computer.

but if you want crappy graphics, go for an intel motherboard with the intel "extreme" onboard graphics. i think what "extreme" stands for is extremely -blam!- graphics cause, phew they stink

I found all the minimum requirements:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829479

But I'm not sure about the Transform and Lighting capability, how can you find out if you do have it?
