Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,

We also have Achronos' new inventions coming out, so those will only help. I think it would be prudent to wait until then, and then see if there is anything left to be done.

I agree. While it would be worthwhile to continue discussing helpful ideas, expecting some of them to be implemented, or even seriously considered by the upper hierarchy, between now and then would be foolish. Patience is necessary.

I'm glad there is a lot of discussion going on. I'm not expecting anything to be implemented. But the community can do plenty of stuff that doesn't require implementation or approval. Things like the Bathroom Reader the the Spotlights are examples of this.

I have something coming up in a few hours (I bet you guys are going to make a joke about that part), just need to work on the last few pieces. it's something you guys will either love, or downright hate. :)

You keep promising, and yet I still don't have my JAF t.v.

I want....I want....I want my JAF t.v.

Ah, you're right. I should've been less pessimistic coming in here.

Perhaps a community-run Machinima? Or a community Map Contest?

I'd absolutely love to organize the latter (the former, too, but I don't have the equipment yet to do it). I'd graciously donate an ample sum from my wallet towards a prize. Perhaps, too, I could even convince Frank to enter the winning map/gametype pair into the Bungie Favorites.

Think on that. I'll be back in 40...

I always wanted to host a 64 person 1v1 tournament here.

Now that's an idea I like. Community run and sponsored contests. Maybe we could get some kind of endorsement from Bungie, too. I really like this idea right now, although I have no ideas as to what kind of contests. A map one would be cool, as would gametypes, and the combination of the two. There could also be film clip, screenshot, and other contests of the sort. If, for lack of money, there are no real prizes to give, maybe, like you said, Bungie could just implement these into Bungie Favorites. I, for one, would like to see a totally community inspired playlist, with gametypes and maps somehow chosen by the community.

These community contest and events all sound well. Some will be hard to do but worth it in the end.
I could see the community machinima happening, though it would be hard to find some good people to voice the cast.
Map contest is good, but do you mean like new ideas for bungie to make, or map varients from forge? (both sound good either what :D)
Large community tournaments would work, and would be fun to do but I won't look through all 64 games to get some good screenshots :P
A community playlist sounds great, since people would be able to have a large input on it (with what maps/gametypes and what is in the playlist too)

All good idea, and I expect even more good ones to show or be refinded :D

A community Map Contest would be very interesting. In fact I love the idea. Plus we could make this into a regular thing, running a different competition or contest every month or so.

I would love to work with you and help organize the Map Contest which I think is a great idea to engage the community. We should talk about it, I could even help to help purchase a prize.

A community driven playlist would be awesome. We should discuss it and chuck around some ideas, and maybe it might just happen.

But I definitely like the contest ideas.

because if seeing is believing,
then believe that we have lost our eyes

The only problem I think this community has is the fact that we have so many great ideas, but nobody ever has the time to actually follow through with them. I understand that everybody has more important things in life, but most of our ideas require too much effort for us to have time to do them. A lot of people have amazing ideas, but forget to think about how much effort all of it will take to complete and follow through with.

The perfect kind of idea for something to do here is something that doesn't require a whole lot of time and/or something that the rest of us can help out with.

Community spotlights are perfect. It doesn't take very long to an interview with somebody from the community, and putting it here can be as simple as a copy and paste.

Well, then that settles it.

I'll start immediately on the planning. In addition, I'll start a new Chapter to handle official information and orginization of these events. I'll post a link here shortly.

And now people can't complain that we don't try to make things happen, but just talk about doing it. I can't wait to get started on this.

After only what, three hours of discussion we have already come up with some great ideas, and are even going on to implement them. Nice going guys. Lets keep it going.

When I get my comp back I'm going to get a capture card and start doing Machinema. I was thinking something along the lines of This Spartan Life, were Mike interviews people from the community while chaos breaks out around them.

Sounds good, but don't be too much like them. We have to be original at least in most of it :P
I would agree that people playing in the background, but not always fighting perhaps (such as discussions/other activities)
Maybe even have a story like Red vs Blue (not exact, but similar style :P) running in the background so if people pay attention they will see some interesting stuff.

Unplug your internet.

Anyway, why do you want the community to change? The dynamic of this place is incredible.

I want the community to improve.

I also want the community to improve. The private groups do balance out the public forums. They are more intimate, and there are a lot a good groups on B.net. Unfortunately, not enough B.net users are active in the private groups. The Septagon remains one of my favorite forums, because I enjoy reading intelligent posts that address community issues.
