I would watch the E3 demo if you haven't yet because this looks like the next awsome game. Brothers In Arms Oh and its made by Gearbox (halo PC) and Ubisoft.

Cronin's Law----The New Flood Drinking Game

I find all WWII shooters personally offensive. I don't know why, but I do. Vietnam shooters too. Actually any shooter which is set in a real-life war I find personally offensive. Made-up conflicts are fine, but to use a real conflict where real people died for my own amusement sickens me.

Nothing is more glorious, noble, or fun than killing naz.is, with the possible exception of killing communists. And space aliens. And commie-naz.i space aliens!

Damn hippies and their constant warmongering!

Call of Duty and this here game, Brothers in Arms is it? These make me slightly less sick, to the point where I can tolerate watching (Still refuse to play)... Since they are realistic they are more of a tribute... kind of like a good war movie... but the battlefield series? Don't even get me started. No historical accuracy... They play the war up as some badass vacation where everyone shoots everything up with no consquences... same with the Medal of Honor series. Makes me quite literally physically ill to watch or play BF1942 because it is so downright disrespectful to the people who fought and died in WWII. Its like HEY -blam!-! YOU HAD THE MOST TERRRIBBLE EXPERIENCE IN YOUR LIFE SO WE COULD PLAY A -blam!- COMPUTER GAME!... it would be a slap in the face to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-war, the whole reason I hate these games is the great respect I have for our countries veterans.

I was joking, but now I have an explecit description of your views on this issue. I too do not play many WW2 games for the same reason (Call of Duty is about the only one).

It is only proper to make a game based on a real war about a few decades after the last remaining veterans have gone to rest. To do so while the veterans are still alive would be a disservice and a sign of disrespect for their sacrifice.

hmm. Just wondering what is sickening about this game. I feel as if game creators were doing a good thing. hmm ill see if I can find some vets to see if THEY are offended. But I can totaly see how you find it "sickening"

What is sickening about the game is that it was a real war where real people died, and yet we make so light of it as to use it for entertainment. Disgusting.
--
The veterans I have talked to have been split pretty evenly... Officers seem not to mind as much, but most of the frontline soldiers I have asked seem pretty mad about it.(talked to about ten or so people total...)

Here's the other thing. When you make a game about ANY war, you almost always have the player take one side--the "good" side. (Halo 2=exception) And so not only are you creating first-person entertainment based on a conflict where real people suffered, were maimed and killed, you're telling the player that all Germans were bad, all Japanese were bad, all Vietnamese were bad, etc. I have this problem with most war movies, as well. There's no monopoly on truth, justice, good or evil in a war.

That's the short version.

Uhh if you want to call -blam!-s carrying away millions of Jews to be killed good then uhh. no comment...Yes there were some good -blam!-s and I dont think that those -blam!-s would mind their army (if their good then they must not like it) being known as the "bad guy"

In my opinion, a textbook is worse than a video game could ever be at displaying the horrors of war. At least in a video game it interests the kid, in textbooks it combines being boring with being emotionless and cold.

Nothing beats a good movie, or in the case of Band of Brothers, a mini-series, though.

Hold on a second here. You don't think that war is bad?

War = Killing people.

Killing people is not good.
(I always found it quite strange that murder will send you to prison for life, but killing people from another country just because you are "at war" gives you a medal)

Anyway. Back to topic. These WW2 shooters are getting a bit teadius(spell?). Where are all the great Sciense Fiction shooters? But this one looks a bit interesting. Might try it out... Maybe...

Hi there. Please note that I said Germans, not -blam!-s. My girlfriend's grandfather was in the German Army during World War II, and he wasn't a -blam!-. He wasn't a bad guy, either. (although he died a while back and I never met him) But his job was to kill Allies, just like American soldiers' job was to kill Germans. That's the point. Being a soldier is a job, not a political ideology.

Setting up a game so that the entire opposing army is inhuman or evil is just wrong, and reinforces some really twisted beliefs.
