Subject: Is this a proper computer upgrade?

I currently own a Gateway 507 GR computer and I'm looking to upgrade my computer...

My Computer Specs

I currently have 512 MB of Ram with 2 available slots(4 slots all together) the type of RAM that it has that is compatible with my system is PC3200 RAM...I'm looking to upgrade my computer to 1 GB-1.5 GB of total RAM...I used crucial and in order to get 1.5 GB of RAM I need 2 512 MB of RAM....So I was looking around at best buy's website and I found this...

K-Byte 512 RAM

I'm planning to buy 2 of them to fill up those 2 available slots...after that is said and done I'm also planning on getting a new graphics card...and I found this...

Graphics Card

So I'm wondering and asking you forum members...Is this a good upgrade?...Is the memory compatible with my system?...I'm pretty sure it is but then again I'm not the best computer person...and is the graphics card compatible with my system?...Thanks in advance!

Welcome CheezyTacos.

It all looks like good stuff, but I recommend you step up the Video card to an 8600 GT

The 8400 can do much at all :/

What exactly are you trying to run after this upgrade? Halo 2?

Actually the most important thing to remember about the graphics card is to get it from newegg, not best buy.

Also, upgrading DDR1 at this point is hugely expensive and not a good value

If you're willing to stomach it, wait till you can sell your Gateway and buy a better computer - with a DDR2 standard. If not, I suppose this is a desperation upgrade. It's not going to be able to handle much and won't last long but I will say it's better than stock.

So in a nutshell...don't upgrade...just wait and get a new computer

I'm there but, man this is really starting to sound like communism.
Long live the MAW.

If you have the cash, yes. Upgrading that thing would take more than just Ram and Graphics card. If you have the expierence, custom build your own computer to your liking. Save cash, and optimize it for your needs :)

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Not much needed. Read about all the basic parts on the web somewhere, and buy everything to match up. It's quite simple. First you start with buying a motherboard.

WARNING! INCORRECT USING THIS FEATURES MAY CAUSE YOUR SYSTEM BROKEN!

I have no idea about graphics cards but you could spend a bit extra and buy 2 1gb sticks of RAM for a total of 2.5gb or buy a new PC

I'm building a new PC but I have no experience so if my IT teacher wasn't helping me I could always use books. So how do I plug the hard drive into the motherboard????? lol

My computer can only handle 2 GB

2.5 GB would probably cause system problems, unless you have a 64 bit OS. Even then, I think mixing different RAM amounts causes a few problems.
