Here are a few simple steps to speed up web page loading...

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows: (by double clicking them)

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Pages now load instantaneous for me.

I've decided to write out a big long post about why I hate Firefox.

1. It sucks.

No, really, that's all I can think of. The browser itself makes me want to vomit when I make an attempt at using it, and I can't figure out why. The only real tangible reason I can think of to hate is the tabbed browsing. Since when is the ability to shift+control+middle mouse+K+L+9 on the numpad click on a link to make it open as a tab tabbed browsing? Do yourself a favor and get Avant Browser.

Actually, you can set your preferences to make pages open in new tabs, or just left click links and select "Open in New Tab" in the drop down list.

CONVERT....Ahem. Avant is good, IMO, almost par with Firefox. But for the sake of an IE free world, I'm choosing Firefox to send Microsoft a message.

You know why they made IE, right? It wasn't to take over the browser market or to make a lot of money. It's free, and it's barebones. It has almost no features no ad blocking built-in. Microsoft is pretty obviously just providing casual computors with something to check a website update every once in a while, or maybe play some games on Yahoo. That's why all they did was make it compatible with everything. If you haven't noticed, Microsoft makes most of their products user-friendly. There are security risks because of that, but the way MS sees it, their products aren't really targeted at the majority, who probably won't stumble onto that.

Oh, and please don't argue that Macs are easier to use. I don't have any experience(lately, anyway) with Macs.

But the problem is that 9/10 people use IE, and without updates, it's an easy way to get in to Windows, running scripts that open in IE, is not surprisingly, not that hard.

The security risks of using the IE browser, are too great, coupled with the fact that many inexperienced computer users would hesitate to change any software, let alone their browser. It's a hackers dream. Microsoft cannot neglect the product that it's so responsible for. When that many computer users are using the net on software that it is full of holes, it is the responisbility of the company to try and fix those holes.

But, IE has been patched to death for years now, and the end users haven't seen a full update, despite the fact that their browser was the source for many attacks, some costing hundreds of millions of dollars.

Can't say anything about Macs, actually, I'm using Red Hat.

5/5 Stars - Kritz.net

My IE stopped working a while ago, and I'm being too lazy to fix it. Luckily my frind sent me the install file.

It's been working great, though I never use the Tab option. I always open In new windows. Mostly because I like to exit things once I'm done, and I click on the red "X", and that kills them all. It's safer for me to have it in seperate windows. Although a big pain still.

BTW, Macs are the same to use as a PC, but more basic. Anyone who uses a PC can get used to a Mac in weeks, but from what I've seen, it takes a while to go from Macs to PC. I'm not a Mac fan, but I use them a fair bit. There self built in tools normaly suck (Appleworks (An oxymoron?)), but they do have safari. Which is basicly the Mac version of FireFox.

I love firefox now, after I d/led all the plugins (Java) I found it really usefull. The best bit? The google search bar. I love that thing. I use it (Google toolbar) as my spell checker too.

Oh yeah, Thanks for the advice.

Was it me, or was 4/5ths of my post mostly off-topic?

Vella, Microsoft can't help it if people aren't on top of their security updates. It's pretty rare for an attack to happen before there's already a fix for it. MS puts LiveUpdate on default for a reason.

Actually, it's not uncommon for up-to-date computers to be targeted now.

Actually Firefox only scrolls on here because of a workaround Bungie has in there code for a bug in Firefox. So be grateful that you can scroll at all.

I got this from Avant's FAQ:

Is Avant Browser a secure browser?

Yes, Avant Browser is secure. Since it's based on Internet Explorer, Avant Browser is as secure as Internet Explorer. Avant Browser supports all SSL secured websites. Avant Browser's encryption length is the same as Internet Explorer's.

Now I dont want to start a flame war here, I just want to state some "unnoticed" facts. If Avant is "as secure as IE" then that means it's not really secure at all. The reason I switched to Opera and Firefox (I even have Mozilla) was to get away from browsers that have a close relation to IE. I had gotten attacked at one time with the blaster worm virus through IE and since then I've never used IE except for Windows Updates.

Internet Explorer failed me so I brought it out back and "put 'er down."
