I don't know if anyone pointed this out and i never read the books but i want to know why the covenant dont destroy earth as soon as they find it. They have the technology to just completly annihilate the earth so why dont they? I think that it may be possible that there are actually undiscovered forerunner artifacts on earth. Why else would they not destroy us?

the good guy finally points the gun at the bad guys head, and the good guy never pulls the trigger...when they really should....but then the bad guy escapes and comes back later to attack again....

The question is how, specifically they found earth. From what I got out of First Strike, it seems the covenant found Earth via an artifact which pointed to Earth. So, they don't want to glass Earth until they collect the goodies from their easter egg hunt :)

ok thanks. But why would a forerunner artifact piont the covenant towards earth?

  • 06.06.2004 3:37 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

yeah theres forerunner tech on Earth but the humans dont know about it. it said that the technology is often unknown to the resident species in the Covenant Primer. i think they found Earth throught the geometric figures on Sigma Octanus IV, and Reach, which were later discovered to be stellar coordinates. if you havent read all 3 Halo novels, you probably have no idea what the hell im talking about

I know that I am bringing up an old argument here, but it is possible that our ancestors are the forerunners. In the level "The Maw" 343 GS says "Oh, to have a record of all our lost time. Human history is it." Saying that we at least have some connection to that. Any forerunner objects found on Earth will just strengthen that. Also in the library, 343 GS speaks to the MC like he is a Forerunner, suggesting to me that humans are the decendants of the forerunners.

As i was talking about on my post. When 343 GS talks about "Our lost time", he is talking about what happened after Halo was fired and then abandoned. Halo was used once before according to 343 GS. The flood infestation probably got so bad on the ring while it was being used that the forerunners had to abandon Halo and search for a cleansed world. By cleansed I mean that halo had already fired on it. After the ring was abandoned, 343 GS would have no more knowledge of the forerunner after the activation of Halo. The forerunner left 343 GS in charge to manage the flood since the flood cannot affect him.

I think they dont blow earth up because they are looking for something.. at least thats the reason in the books.... you should read them... they are really good and might help clear up some of your questions

Ive never read the books but i hang around the forums(my books are coming in 3 days) and people say that the huimans may be related to forerunners. This probably means our chopsticks or tofu are some amazing artifact that can't be destroyed so oncethey gather everything they need, theyll "glass".

maaybe 343 GS took over the covenant leaders brain and he was all like "dont blow up earth you idiots! that smart computer puprple lady has the index! hehehe im a geenious!!"

so the covenant were like, "aww man...now we cant use our doomsday machine!!!" and they didnt blow up earth.

I believe theres a few spartans other than Master Chief that make it out of the whole ordeal alive. Meaning there will be more spartans on the ground..hopefully (if they stay true to the books). When the covenant attacked Reach they were looking for an artifact there and didn't glass the planet until they found it. The covenant are far superior to humans and could have wiped out earth quickly but they didn't. READ THE BOOKS. They are quite amazing.

OK your all forgetting that the Covenant take speices that they defeated and making them apart of their own. If any of you have the PC players guide it gives you some little tid bits into the covie. Like how they couldn't defeat the Hunters on ground so they had to bombard their homeworld till they surrender'd.

Just my opinion but Books 1 and 3 SUCK. They make the master cheif and the marines wusses. Its like Star Trek/Halo. The 2nd one is pretty good. It'll make you play the game over again but man is it good. They make the Flood way creepier then they seem in the game. The only thing I liked about the 3rd book was that Srg Johnson made it.

If the Artifacts are pointing to Earth, or at least give coordinants, that means Earth is very significant, either it holds a special object or coordinants for the forrunner to follow to get to a safe world.

if you read the books they dont entirely glass the planet Reach because there was one section that they knew was the fore runner object. they intercepted a ships' memory, one that didnt use the cole protocal and found the direction to earth. read the books they are very good and intriguing

Danarchy I dont know what the hell you're talking about, but the 2nd book sucked, it was just like reading what you played in Halo, and I'd rather play it than read it. The first and third books were really good, and you should read them, they actually explain how the Chief got the way he is, where the origins come from, and deal with the actual human connection and teamwork they had. Thinking that the books made the marines wusses is ridiculous, the covies are supposed to be far superior to normal humans. Anyways, just my opinion. Also the covenant wouldnt take the humans into there Covenant, while they got the other species (begrudginly I might add) to join, they see the humans as a stain on the universe to be wiped out.

Your wrong on how they found Reach :) , the covenant on Sigma Octanus IV attached a probe to the Iroquois who snapped photos of all the stars, and the Iroquois was in the Reach system when the probe hit critical energy and was ejected.
