They covered it already, but I'd like to add a point.
Often times I've seen someone post an opinion in the forums, and then have someone try to discredit them by checking their stats. Naturally, if someone claims that the sniper rifle is "broken", and they have very few kills with it, or the B.R., or the splazer, or, you get it; then yeah, they're stats are helpful in discovering the problem. What isn't cool, is when someone just wants to insert their 2 cents, and sombody flames them because "You need to play more/get better, before you start talking like that! Your k/d sux!" That isn't constructive to any conversation. The gamercard, as has been mentioned, has nothing to do with Bungie. That said, there isn't another game developer out there that I am aware of that allows you to display your stats so effectively, and thouroghly. You're already getting more than you should ask for.
Sorry, tangent ^^. My point is, if you can see someone's gamerscore, then I can only imagine it would serve to degrade many discussions on the forums. I can just see someone saying: "Dude, stfu, until you get past 3000 gamerpoints, you don't know what gaming is!" Really, lets not give the flamers any more amunition.
