Hilarious. Ten people in a row saying "Nah, nah, I don't think it's repetitive" who all have basically the same avatar. :/

I lol'd.

People early on thought it'd get repetitive. They're right. If you're ok with that, it's fine, but you can't deny the fact that a lot of people look similar. There's nothing wrong with it; saying it's repetitive is fact.

I liked it, too. I may change back and forth now and then (between emblem and character model).

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

At first yeah I was into the idea of using my armor as an avatar. It's a great way to make your bungie.net account feel more personal. But the gray background is what is keeping me from changing to it. And personally I think when there's a thread where everyone has a character avatar with the gray background it looks a little odd. While the gray background is good for the service page, personally I think having a transparent background would be better for avatars.

Just think of it this way, if you don't use your character as your avatar your avatar will stand out more. It'd be like if a bunch of people had a yellow square for an avatar and you had one that was green.

Edit: Look at this page to see what I mean. On that page everyone has the character avatar with the gray background.

Location: Outlaws' Summit.

I'm still gonna stay true to my angry yelling cartoony Sgt. Johnson lol.

I think the armor avatars are cool though. Sure it's repetitive but now the community can express themselves even more.

I'll be on my own side.

And make topics comparing each other's armor, as if there's a difference. Might as well make a topic comparing each other's arm lengths or something equally retarded.

I like my emblem how it is now, although I change it a lot.

Easy there fuzzy little man-peach.

I'll give it a go, but I'll probably change it back in a few seconds. Too many spartans for me.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm changing back, damn spartans.

I like that avatar for you. It reminds me of you, brown bear.

Wait, what?

I agree, the only thing I think is repetitive is how the backgrounds for each portrait is exactly the same. If we could change it to a different color, or perhaps to a picture of a multiplayer map, then I wouldn't still be using my Halo 3 emblem as my avatar.

I second that idea... maybe allow the use of our emblems as the backgrounds themselves would be pretty neat. It would add a greater deal of depth possible avatar variations possible...

I like the idea, because it can give you ideas for armor you want to wear.

I'd never do it until I get something that looks cool though.

I never liked the idea. I thought it was good but it would just get annoying looking at the same avitar everywhere you go. I really hate it when i try and post in the halo3 fourm and all I see are armours...everywhere....and they all look the same.

I like how ive used the same avi for almost all of the 4 years ive been here.

I've said this before, but it applies with the background too.

Each player snapshot is actually its own image altogether. It's not dynamic or anything.. They have images of every single armor and color combination for both Spartans and Elites so that they can give you the player snapshot feature.

With backgrounds, the number of different picture combinations would be the below equation twice, once for Spartans and once for Elites.
(Number of possible color combinations * Number of possible armor combinations * number of possible backgrounds)

Which is a lot of work and a lot of pictures.

I don't understand why you wouldn't like it, it just a picture....

honestly....

  • 11.12.2007 6:16 PM PDT

Yes, but it is there choice to be like everyone else. I personally find it quite nice to be able to show my character to everyone.

I agree with the OP.

What about using your Halo 3 model as your icon, but using your icon/whatever as your background? It is a little repetitive. I mean, I just scrolled down this page without recognizing anyone because of their generic icons. I also could use my Halo 3 model, or my Halo 3 icon, but my Halo 2 one looks best, still :P

Exactly. I changed my avatar to my spartan for oh about 20 minutes, until I saw everyone else doing the same thing. Once the novelty wears off, people will change it back or do something different.

Overall though, what's wrong with more options?

There's a reason you see a lot of these character emblems. Because a lot of people like them. If so many people like them, why not let them use them? Is it hurting anyone?

I think there should be less white background and more of the character. Ie, bigger.

How about you hold your #1 Tool of Destruction (other then AR or Melee... so it stays original) and you can choose the color of the wall in the back? To shake things up a bit?
