whenever i try to host a game, everything works fine, but nobody else can join, it always says Connecting to server, retrying server, and then the people i want to join cant join. Sometimes I cant join other games too, but most of the time i can, i have a DSL connection, and usually i connect to other peoples games, but why cant other people join mine? I also have another question, i recently downloaded Halo Dedicated Server, it works fine, but if i change the name of the server it doesnt show up on the Gamespy Server List, whats wrong?

well, one thing comes to mind, if you have a firewall up that MIGHT be doing it or if you dont have an up-to-date version, or, if your budds dont have the same version you do.

hmm, ive even tried turning my firewall off, but that still doesnt work, and im pretty sure i have the latest version of halo, and everyone trying to join my games cant have a different version then me, i mean at least one of them has to have the same version as me, so i dont think that is it...

do you have a router? do you have a software based firewall? if so, disable the software firewall and then open the server ports on the router to allow connections from outside your LAN. The default port for the dedicated server is 2302. port 2303 is the port that a client will use to connect to a server.

also, if you have a dsl modem that acts as a NAT, AND a router that acts as a NAT, disable the NAT feature in the modem.

Hope this helps

i have a router, i am not using it though, other computers in my house are, i am using the dsl cable to connect. ive tried turning off the software firewall but it still doesnt work. i do know what an NAT is, Network Address Translation, im not really sure how to turn it off though... and would i really need to? since the computer i am on is not even using the router?
