I posted this in the Halo 3 forum, but someone suggested that it should be over here (feel free to delete the original post):
Hi Bungie,
So, I was looking at the new global heatmaps (which are very cool). They work really well for looking at kill and death locations for individual weapons. However the overall (all weapon) kill and death location maps are a little more difficult to make sense of, mostly because they're so similar. I've worked on neuroimaging research in the past, and one way similar data from MRI scans is presented is to show the difference between two conditions on a single map. What this would mean for the global heatmaps is that the data from the 'deaths by' map would be subtracted from the data from the 'kills by' map. Many of locations on the map would likely 'wash' in that the same number of kills and deaths occur there, but this would result in one map where positive values would indicate locations where more kills are happening than deaths, and negative values would indicate locations where deaths happen more frequently than kills. This would give more of a sense about the way the actual geography of particular maps were being used overall, rather than strategy with individual weapons, which can vary a great deal.
Hopefully that makes sense. I can try to clarify if it doesn't.
Cheers and thanks for all stats and upgrades that you keep giving us
