He posted it on MLG a while back I think as well. He is definately the original OP...we've all seen the thread evolve to the state it is in now.

Earlier today, I lagged out of a game (counts as quitting), but my team still won. I know that my experience goes down for quitting, but does my "trueskill" go up for my teammates winning?

Team slayer BR on Valhalla

Winning team: combined level 139
HeavyDamage05 lv40 kills 16 +5
AO I TakeDown I lv12 kills 15 +9
AO RAAMalamajamlv39 kills 11 +1
MC ShottaSlv38 kills 8 -2

Losing team: combined level 113
BlueLagoon10lv20 kills 12 -4
Thizz435lv19 kills 10 -1
MZ24lv34 kills 9 -3
Swansoonlv40 kills 6 -5

After that match
HeavyDamage lv39 -1
AO Takedown lv11 -1
AO RAAMalamajam lv39
MC ShottaS lv37 -1

now a victory should never decrease rank. and that was a victory along a winning streak. how does not only mine but 2 others drop in rank. if this has any relation to in game stats then it would consider me being the lowest level in the game with the best K/D spread being only 1 kill away from having most kills. so being lowest level i made all my kills from higher leveled enemys and died the least too them. my in game stats are rewardable and i alos have the win bonus. now why would my MU drop from that. the match after i got back to level 12 but i have more sigma and the lower level

nothing in this explains losing rank from winning. in my game history the 2nd most recent was that match, the level displayed is the level entering the match. the match after will display rank 11 as i entered but nothing will display the rank 12 i re-achieved. anybody can view. and my Team Slayer was in a winning streak. the only loss was a conection issue that the match never started

your level has no effect unless you finish the game

This could already be answered in here but theres 38 pages..does you EXP level have any affect on how fast you level up.

For example I know a brigadier grade two who claims it is "Harder for him to level up" because his exp is so high
I don't buy that

in team it's only win or loss. a win is always an exp point and a loss isnt. in a free for all i know for sure that 1st and 2nd get exp and i think 3rd will also.

he thinks it's harder to gain exp because it is taking him longer to level up. it takes longer to level up because the exp gap is bigger

The DNF you had right before this game is probably what brought you all down. Many times the effect of a DNF is not immediate and you actually have time to start another game before your drop shows up. The team you DNF'd to had much lower skill levels than all of you on average so you probably took a big hit. This is part of the problem when playing in a party who are 20 skill levels apart. Also, in game stats are not used to determine your skill level. Only winning and losing along with everyone's skill levels.

Yes, DNF games do count towards your skill level. IF they didn't, everyone would be quitting to keep from going down.

There is no relation between your EXP (Military Rank) and how fast you level up. The more games you play in a playlist, the harder it is to level up. A General who has never played LW will level up the same speed as a Recruit who starts out by playing LW.

Is there a way to reset your skill / rank? I would sort of like to go back to the sergeant ranks.... and not play ranked servers :P

they updated that quit out method and how it can preserve a rank.

i remember somebody saying it can keep your rank still but drain exp. but still no point in quitting. if you quit for that general then you would alternately never have enough exp to make it to that emblem and would probably be a recruit forever. + on the way to having people win team slayers for you and quiting on loss you was probabaly getting owned

thats if that quit theory was true

you was right. the other team was an overall lower level and this level 17 went to 20 just like that. i viewed game history to see that TurdNugget

he had almost no gamerscore like a new account with little exp and a superb K/D ratio. an obvious 2nd account most likely

as 1 of the best at saints row that had way more cheating and hackers then anything else i think that somebody knew he was host and then went screwing with firewall to perfectly lag out my team but none of his team. dont know who the game host was.

The ranking system is bullsh1t. Seriously how many good games do you have to win in lone wolves to rank up?i come in 2nd 1st, and 2nd and still dont rank up. i minus will come in 4th 5th and 6th.

who made this ranking system

  • 01.24.2008 8:10 PM PDT

Well last night when I signed out I was at skill 35. When I started today it was 33. I got 2nd in my last match of the night so I see no reason for the skill to drop.

ive been playing with my friends and we have played about 30 games or so and won nearly all of them. my friend is a level 49 and still didnt go up to 50 and also the poeple we have been put up against are higher than me so why dont i go up?

No Fat Chicks!

I've heard different things on this topic. Do you have to finish first for your Mu to go up in Lone Wolves. I've heard people tell me you need to finish 3rd or above to gain XP/level. Is this true?

I took a quick look at your games:
2 1st
4 2nd
5 3rd
1 4th
4 5th
0 6th

So, in 16 games you placed in the top two 6 times, the middle 6 times and the bottom two 4 times. It seems you are about your correct skill level finishing 3rd most of the time. If you've played a lot of LW games, you will have to win consistently to go up. Finishing 3rd is not "winning" and you are losing and winning in equal amounts meaning your skill is not "better" or changing enough to merit a skill increase.

You had a DNF, which was counted as a loss, your last game of that night and the next day you had a 34.

I've had issues with DNF's too in LW. One or two guys drop out, the rest of us finish the game and then when I look it up those two guys that dropped are getting 1st and 2nd place and the rest of us get DNF's. This has happened to me 3 or 4 times recently. It sucks for sure, but not a ton we can do about it. At least Bungie is banning them if they are intentionally lagging people out to win.

In your last 15 or so you did go from a 44 to a 45. It takes a good number of wins to go up if you've played a lot of TS games. Also, when you get in the high 40's it can be hard to get matches against people equal or higher than you consistently. You may play 10 against people lower than you and you really don't get much "credit" for those if you win and a big hit if you lose. It's the matches against teams of equal or higher skill (than your team average) that are the one's you need to win to go up.

It really all depends of the skill levels of your opponents. If you are higher, you are expected to win and get very little credit for it. Just like if you are the lowest, and lose, it doesn't hurt you as bad as if you lost to a bunch of people lower than you. If you are the lowest skill, and get 3rd, you would get Mu (skill) for it because the system predicted you to come in last.

As far as EXP (Military Rank), finishing 3rd or better will get you 1 EXP.

Jay, maybe I have been wrong on this fundamental issue all along, but I thought Bungie tweaked True Skill to consider 1st - 3rd place in LW's equally as a win (for both EXP and MU purposes)? Was I wrong and they used their base model for it? If so, this makes Lone Wolves a considerably harder playlist to rank up in, considering how often random aspects of the game would cost you the difference ebtween 1st and 3rd place. I could have swore I saw multiple statements confirming what I thought, and not related to EXP only.

Note: How do I post without having to quote? And how do i make new threads =\ I can't find any new thread buttons

Anyway..

Ill put my problem here - My friend and I are playing team doubles and it takes him about 5 games to go up a rank, and it take me about one (wins). Why is this? And why does it take two losses to go down?
