Just a question:

Does amount of EXP affect how fast or slow you rank up?

I think so, Just tonight I met a guy in TD he was a 29 with 1300+ exp and I was a 24 with under 50 exp. We played 5 games together (won all) I ranked up to a 29 and he didn't rank up at all.

No but if you have a lot of EXP then you probably have gotten your Sigma pretty low in your favorite playlists which may make it seem like it makes a difference, but it doesn't.

Just because you don't have the attention span to read it all doesn't mean he has no life.

Awesome, this is so helpful. One question that has probably been asked many times; why do people go into social and quit or just stand still (often the are second account players or really high ranked players)

A question. If I decided to stop playing the playlist that I have a low sigma in will it eventually go up if I stop playing it. And say play a different ranked playlist.

Great post over all and nice to see so many people asking questions rather then flaming :o)

Some people believe if you have low EXP (military rank) you will gain skill levels quicker. It's not true because EXP has no bearing on any of the TrueSkill equations used to adjust your skill level.

No and No. Nothing changes over time if you do not play in that list. Also, each playlist is tracked separately. So, playing a lot of TS and getting to a point where your skill level stops moving up quickly will have no affect on how fast you level up in Team Doubles.

Ok thanks. So would I go up if I was too quit right before we win so I get the mu to go up say a 49 to a 50. But get my sigma level higher because I quit?

Quitting will drop your Sigma.

Great explanation. This should answer most questions about the Trueskill system.

I truly love this thread. It is the answer to all questions asked about the Halo 3 Rank system.

  • 05.20.2008 8:02 PM PDT

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

You are compared to other players, their level, which consists of the invisible Mu and Sigma.
-If game thinks you will win and you win, you don't gain much.
-If game thinks you will win and you lose, you lose much.
-If game thinks you will lose and you win, you gain much.
-If game thinks you will lose and you lose, you don't lose much.
=Most of the complainments are completely logical.

1.Friends and party you play with affect the comparison of players. In good and bad, some groups level up and down very fast, some seem not to rank at all. You just have a lot more steady Mu and Sigma values in partyed matches than you have in solo matches.

2.Huge win streaks causing no level up and 1 lose meaning lose of rank. Game believes you will win, win, win, win. You won't rank up as fast, you have much higher chance to rank down on the other hand.

3. Lower EXP means you don't have so much history. Single matches affect your Mu and Sigma a lot. Of course person who wins 100 out of his first matches deserves level 50 a lot more than person with 5000 matches of which he has won the last 100. The first one is usually second accounter but his level is still the same old, the second one is just evolving during his long career.

4. If you drop EXP by quitting it means you have been losing making game think you are weaker. Thus game thinks you are likely to lose=Winning gains much.

it means the system is giving you poor matchmaking quality most likely. Looking at your games you are playing with and against guys lower than 49 for the most part. They wopnt give you much credit on those wins.

Try partying up with guys in the 48-50 level
