Subject: In depth explanation of the Halo 3 skill ranking system.

I understand why they want us to play against other players with the same SKILL rating. I wouldnt want to fool myself in being a rank 40 and then getting slaughtered everytime because my real skill is a 24. I get that. I would like it if the promotions would still go up after accumulating EXP. I can deal with the fact I will never get to a skill level 30. I just have fun I am what I am . However, I have almost 800 EXP and I am a Staff Captain grade 4. That is the Highest I will ever go!!! I will never be promoted again as long as I play. If I get 10000EXP I still need my skill level to be a 30 for promotion. My skill is maxed out I cant see me getting better because I have already played alot.
I am just saying it would be nice if I keep playing to have something to play for like getting promoted.
Make any sense or just babble?

Ok, check my service record to see this in more detail, but basically, since getting my 46 in dubs, I have played 13 games. I have played against generals, I have played against gunnery sergeants, I have played 48s, I have played 39s...

I have won every one of those 13 games.

I have not ranked up.

This is my other thread, any advice from you on what to do?

For example. When I play Team Slayer with my buddies on my alternate gamertag, much of the time I end up carrying the team. I created this tag to play with my buddies, and as such, have only ever played on that party with that tag. I ranked up to the level of my friends within 20 or so games, while it had taken them 50 to 100 games to reach their level. My friends thought that it was because of my frequent MVP status and my high K/D ratio that I leveled up so fast.

Wrong. I leveled up fast because A) I initially had a very high Sigma, making my Mu more variable after each win, B) Starting out at a 1 and playing people in the mid teens gave me a considerable BOOST every time I won, and C) We won more frequently than they had in the past.skill level, but good to have low once you've reached it and are working on improving.

so you openly admit you are one of those people that start another account just to boost your stats? isn't that a form of cheating?

I made my second account because my first account was a test run with a 0 gamerscore account. Once I got the hang of what to do I made my old primary account into my permanent online account, this guy.

Doubt it. True Skill and Bungie's slightly adjusted derivation of it are not going to change. At least according to what I have read so far...

Most of their changes look like they are purely EXP related, which is only a small side topic of this thread.

I took a small look back on many of your recent doubles games. I agree you ahev had a wide range on your matchmaking quality.

You've played the majority of your latest doubles games with 2 guys. Thats probably causing some of the slowness. As stupid as it is, thats the likely answer.

People want to be remembered. The only difference is why. Some want to be remembered for being kind, brave, or daring. I chose to be legendary. I am a myth, a story, a ghost, someone who doesn't exist. You have wronged me, and you shall die. Check the shadows for the end is imminent. Good day!

So, if I don't play very much, and when I do play, I win, I'm more likely to go up?

Not exactly. Its more accurate to say if you havent lost very much you will rank quicker than someone who has lost quite a bit in the past, even if you have comparable skills.

Nicely worded. I surmised as much, basicly. Though I recently beat a team with higher levels than my friend And I, and didn't go up. The other team was 33 and 38, while we were 31 and 22(?). half a dozen games later and I'm still 31 and he's 30. Yes, he's good, if not better than I am frequently, but i play doubles with him, on his other accounts, almost exclusively.

My question is; Does dropping out/quiting have any effect on your mu/truskill/level? I had a temp internet failure and dropped out. We were winning and my partner still won the doubles game by a good amount.

Go elites!

The only sure thing about dropping out is that it gives you negative EXP, which in itself does not effect your MU/True Skill. However, quitting/dropping has a high correlation with your team losing, which of course drops your MU/Skill.
