Also, where does XP fit into all of this because I know for a fact that the more XP you have, the harder it is to rank up. They definitely make it progressively harder and they definitely make it harder for those with more XP. XP probably ups your sigma by changing your true skill value to higher than your Mu is.
Although it appears like XP is a factor, it isn't. It's the amount of games played in a playlist and your sigma because of those game. You could have 2000XP and have never played Team Doubles. When you then start playing Team Doubles, you will level just like a new account. In general, the more games you play in a playlist, the lower your sigma gets. The lower your sigma gets, the more wins/losses it takes to move a skill level. Your EXP is not a factor, it's sigma.

i think that the ranking system is really good. but i think in team games it should look the peoples kills and deaths. as i all ways get put with a crappy team and im the one having to get at least 30 to 5 kill death ratio :(.

xp dont have an effect. it might seem it but its not. if u start a new account with 9000 xp but have not played any games in a type of playlist. lets say team snipers. if u win the first game u will go up about 3 or 4 lvls. after that if u win agen u wil probs go up agen 3 or 4 lvls. this will keep happening until you lose agame. this is becouse the computer has not found the lvl where u will start losing at and start finding it hard.

Ok, ok, i read all of this stuff, but how can u possibly explain this.

I made a new account, out of 32 games i lost 1.

I have a 22 game streak.......
31 wins total, but only got to level 18.

i played games against people with 15 wins and were higher than 18.

here is the link to my name

to be honest i think the ranking system sux u know u lose two or 3 games and ur skill drops but then it takes like 10 games in a row to WIN for it to go up even one bungie needs to rethink this "ranking" system

Piss me off and say good-bye to your knee-caps and trust me I don't bluff.

I honestly feel really stupid now.

Great write up. The equations got me a bit lost but I picked up the majority of the information and found it very enlightening.

I would love an explanation as to why i did not get my 48 in doubles yet....recent events occurred and i believe that i deserve that 48, this is what went down

me and my buddy played 9 games together....i was a 47 and lost it prior to this

played 1 game and got my 47 back

won the next 6 games and nothing

lost 1 game

won 1 game

no more doubles games were played with my buddy

next time i play doubles it goes like this....

win 1 game

lose 1 game....nothing

win 4 games...nothing

lose 2 games....both of which my teammate quit very early

win 2 more games....nothing

lose 1 game....get frustrated and am now considering a new account to get to that 50...which i know i am good enough for and think i deserve it

my account that all this happened on is iParagon

its a major with about 250 EXP...a little under 75 being in team doubles

So my record shows that i have 'quit' a few games enough to put me -55 in exp.

All of that is due to connection, nothing else. I have quit one game but that is it.
So does bad connection contribute to your exp? And if so is there a way to fix that?

I just recently won the last 2/3 games both times were my first and have noticed that they really havent affected my exp level...much. Im starting to get closer back to even. So all i want to know is the connection.

There are many powers in the world, for good or for evil. Some are greater than I am. Against some I have not yet been measured. But my time is coming.

Why the impatience? Your rank shouldn't fluctuate every game. Hell, it probably shouldn't fluctuate much in 10 games. The problem most people have with the ranking system is that they have these exceedingly unrealistic expectaions of how quickly their rank will go up. It is then exacerbated by the fact that people cheat the system and tell tall tales about how quickly they rank up. I also notice that no where in your little history here, do you list the relative ranks of your opponents. This absolutely crucial information as to your ability to rank up. When you beat lower ranked people, you can't expect much reward.

You had a mixed party based on what I see. If you read throughout this thread, getting very little MU for wins is a common downside for the higher ranked players in a mixed party.

I've already read all of the halo books today you stupid nerd. Plus Halo:Fall of reach twice.

Can anyone tell me why I ranked up once in LoneWolves when I didn't come in the top 4 and didn't gain EXP from that match?

This actually happened to me on one of my accounts last night. In fact I placed 7th and gained rank.

Remember, in LW's you are compared seperately against each of the 7 other people....if you were expected to lose to everyone and you still beat one or two of them, you gain MU even though you don't get EXP.

I should probably mention that the other possible cause is because your sigma drops after every game. In my case I had not really lost yet, so my sigma dumped quite a bit when I placed 7th, which in turn, as silly as it sounds, increased my displayed rank.
