You just read it wrong

As long as your sigma is still high, ranking is quick and fluid.

I'm not sure if you've answered this already, but does the placing you get in lone wolves (1st,2nd,3rd) affect anything such as the Mu?

Lets say you have no games played ( a "clean slate") in LW's
and then get 1st place 25 games in a row, meanwhile
another player gets a mix of 1st-3rd (all "wins"),

Are they the same rank, and if not, why?

In LW's you are evaluated against each and every person you play against. The person that got nothing but 3rd's in theory could have a higher rank than the person that got all 1st's. It is a function of matchmaking quality and whether you did better than the system expected you to.

Also, what happens when a game is split?

I.E, in Doubles, three people see one guy quit out.

This guy didn't actually quit. Instead, he sees all three other people quit out instead. Is that a win or loss, or does it depend on the results of the other 3 people?


True Skill supposedly made some tweaks where you don't lose as much MU if your teammates quit out...but that it depends on what % of the game they played. I don't think we have seen official confirmation this has in fact been implemented, but I am pretty sure it has based on some of the data I have seen.

Splits are only considered a tie if the system expecetd you to tie, which is rare.

okay, thanks. this helps me understand why for 8 games straight I went up in rank after it, even with about 4 losses. I must have a high sigma.

There is no way to tell for sure. You can only track in your mind how many games you have played and what your win/loss is. Figuring out what effect the other players skill levels who are on your team may be impossible. Basically if your teams consistenly beat other teams that have a higher average skill you rank up, but then there is always the sigma factor.

You have a different TrueSkill skill level for each list, even in social. The only difference is social is hidden and ranked is not.

am I allowed to post my opinion in this thread about this topic? if so then cool, if not, i guess i will be banned in the next 5 min.

I really have to say that in the last two and a half years ive been playing halo 3, or atleast the launch night of the 24th of sept. 2007, i have greatly enjoyed this game and its features. My main problem, only problem, with halo(as a series) is that the muliplayer never seemed to appeal me as a player, but in halo 3 that changed for me as i grew to like the way it played through ranking and determining who is matched with or against you,

but after the update with the tru skill nonscense, i honestly believe that they should have left it alone because too many people including myself find more problems with it then anything good about it

................and on a more personal note, halo 3 has no longer become fun online since the update. what you say to this is your opinion, as this is mine, but i still stand by these words in hopes that "change" like this is seriously reconsidered, and that if bungie decides to continue to work at the features of this game, even three years from now, that they take small opinions like mine and many others into consideration, just because the larger percent of the bungie community likes something, doesnt meen its a good idea.

A good example, and again this is an opinion, was the community's want for another lockout remake. we already had guardian, which was simular yet different, and added a nicer feel to the game, where as Blackout was a undertextured, over rated, poorly designed map, just like lockout.

Lockout was quite possibly the most famous halo 2 map. Bungie even said that they had nothing even compare to it in terms of gameplay.

I agree with your points about trueskill, however, it needs to be restructured.

You mean TU2 which set up the playlist EXP system? They just added a layer on top of the existing system giving players a reward for each playlist. As far as the skill system, nothing changed about it.

Well, as far as we know nothing changed about TrueSkill since launch.
