Can anyone just summarize what he just said and how to rank up. i got confused

Skill is determine by your win rate and other player's win rates, and your level and other players levels.

so explain to me how i can win 40 out of 43 ranked games playing against higher levels than me and only move 6 ranks? i do well in them all aka "back pack" and i was the lowest rank and majority of the time the player with the LEAST experience of both teams and the player on my team with the LEAST experience EVERY game on my team? i am now a 33 with 8 losses of 80 some games and have nothing to show.. i've seen 50's with worse records..

Just about every page of this thread has your answer. Playing in a mixed skilled party (more than 10 apart) will get you 1/100th the amount of skill when winning compared to a non-mixed skill party. Plus you are the highest skill in the party and your lower skilled teammate is bringing in opponents of lower average skill than you. This means you are getting very little for those wins.

I swear people should be forced to read this and understand it before joining bungie.

ATLAS

I have won games in the past (played bad) and de-ranked? I do not see where this user addresses that question. What is the reasoning behind this? This user states that this truskill system does NOT take into account your statistics during a game, if that is so, why have I deranked after winning a game?

extremely well written man and informative
and no the amount of headshots you get doesnt matter i get an average of 14 kills a game with 12 to 13 headshots with a battle rifle and my rank doesnt go up just because of headshots

Since your post is stickied I'll assume it is as least correct as a first approximation. For the most part I play social big team and in that setting the skill level of the players is never correct. Inevitably you end up with 1 or 2 players who get a k/d ratio that is absurdly high. You wind up with laser hogs who make it impossible to move anywhere on the map without getting blasted.

So you can't organize any kind of strategy because someone with a laser will just blow you away from the other side of the map. Further, this behavior actually does very little to help the laser hog's team win. So you wind up with a situation where players who are extremely good at the laser never really level up to a point where they'd be facing players of equal skill.

Instead almost every game is a meat grinder with lasers and snipers basically running the board. I suspect that many of these players have hacked in a KB and mouse to make shooting more accurate. Combine that with autoaim and you have players that virtually never miss. Further, Bungie decided to make the laser and rifle respawn even if someone is already holding it.

I can remember some awesome games on coag where I'd race out and grab the rockets and then jump back into the banshee. The rockets would never respawn and the snipers can't take out the banshee. In Halo3 the laser is like the rockets on steroids AND they respawn even if someone is already holding it.

In short, the game becomes all about distance laser shots and sniper headshots. Which is, by the way, fine for big team slayer but for objective maps I think the laser and sniper ought to be either eliminated or cut way back. That would encourage the use of strategy in order to achieve the objective. The way it is set up now the incentive is for everyone to run in different directions because any "grouping" will just get you lasered or sniped that much faster. There is virtually no point to coordinating an attack with vehicles because the laser is a "can't miss" weapon on every vehicle in Halo3.

hello i am masturceef lolololololol ima charg mi lazer b33mz wowowowowowow shoodawooooop! mi roflcopter goz soisoisoisoisoisoisoi! mi rofl nife goz sliecsliecsliecsliecsliec!

What I hate about his rank system is that, i used to suck and my skill stayed around 14, but now i have improved drastically and have got to 36 but i cant get past this even though i know that i am as good as any 45-50 as shown in my performance in games against people of this quality. Is a second account the only way to get higher? helpzzzz?!?

It's not a sticky, it's merely a hot topic but what does your post have to do with the skill system again?

Anyway, a huge part of BTB is controlling things like the laser and/or sniper along with tons of other things. Removing things to make BTB less strategic is not a good idea IMO.

This explains everything, in a clear and confusing manner. In other words I understand but not sure how to incorporate this into the game, I'll figure it out.

That depends on the MU and Sigma of your opponents. SImple answer is yes, you will likely gain skill.

im still also wondering about this ranking system aswell. i DO get the explaination about your mu/sigma but it still makes no sense what so ever to me.

on my new account [pm x afflict] i have played roguhly 150 games, lost only 21 and have never came worse than 3rd in lonewolfs, it took me about 40 games to get from 20-29, then i won one game at 29 and go up 6 ranks to 35? 90% of the games ive played in lonewolfs ive came first and i have an insane w/lose ratio seeming im always in the top 3 100% of the time, can someone please explain why this is happening?

[the games that i have lost were in the MLG playlist, ive never lost a lonewolf game yet]

Just remember that no matter how terrible you feel, or how much you want to let go, there are people who care about you and love you.
