Nothing is better than gaming through the day, into the night, then back into the day. It's like when you finally push that power button you feel like you've accomplished nothing, but at the same time, you can't stop smiling.

What happened to the OP?

Is there any way that the players of halo 3 can see their MU and SIGMA?

  • 07.02.2009 12:25 PM PDT

Yeahhhhhhhhh, about that....
I can explain.

I was banned (below) for calling someone a cotton-headed ninnymuggen. My offensive language is too much for this website.

Lmao this post is so old and defined that the User doesn't even exist anymore :)

the i came to 22 ... i finished 2nd,1st,2nd,3rd,2nd and i didnt gain anything
then i was a 23 and i won 3 consecutive matches and 2 2nd places but nothing
trueskill is a -blam!-
bungie does what he wants
and most of all
ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTACT BUNGIE AND HAVE EXPLANATIONS

I have a question,

Can I regain my Mu after winning Team Slayer games? How long does it "take" to get back to the original levels of a certain Mu Level when I was starting out as a player?

It's not that people are unintelligent, it's just that we didn't waste our time (not necessarily a waste) thinking that the ranking system would be so primitive (wrong word) as to not take anything into account except for the one random kid who wins a round... The ranking system seems lame to me, but none the less it is EXTREMELY good to know how it is working so that I can stop worrying about how good I play and just be more up close and personal in a fight, so good job anonymous poster guy =)

WHEW! In my quest to discover Bungie's seemingly arbitrary and other-worldly method of determining ranking criteria, I have found something more frustrating than their lack of desire to explain their system to their paying customers; their wayyyyyyyy tooooooo busy webpage that nearly ruins your eyes trying to sort through all the images and endless random verbage that would bore a lawyer to death. ANYWAY.... about the so-called ranking system.
Yes I understand the Mu and sigma process (not 100% but I get the idea behind the use of statistical formulas), but no matter how well you perform as an INDIVIDUAL, if you lose because of poor performance of TEAM MATES, ( who lag out or quit out, dont play or whatever other reason there is that is beyond your control) you are penalized for your TEAMS loss by NOT ranking up even if you have a +20 kd and are MVP with a rampage, extermination etc etc etc...... .So the aggregate data from your previous games is the historical data that determines if you rank up in future games. So this formula dictates you should never worry about winning as long as you continually increase your performance exponentially.... but the make or break for an upgrade in rank is that your TEAM wins.... hmmmmm.. but no matter how outstanding your performance is, you will not rank up. This presents a problem. The formula used is based on you playing in a controlled environment, and does not account for variables as I have described. Also, the use of the statistical methods are further rendered useless with the manipulative culture of boosting, negative xp'ers, and what about spawning into a sniper shot or warthog gunner spawn killing? If bungie is going to rely so heavily on statistics, than winning or losing should have nothing to do with it. Saying this, I understand there are things about it that I do not comprehend or have mistakenly analyzed, and I know there is no perfect system. I just think its too complicated and bungie needs to account for neg xp'ers, quitters, laggers, players who dont play and in team slayer, essentially variables that should be factored in to the statistical methodology or their is no point in using stat methods when your only going to use a portion of data and variables. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. All I know is I get reaaaaal pissed when I win 10 games in a row, with + kd, lots of medals, and dont rank up, but lose when I lose one game, even when I still perform well. If things dont change, Im going to move on from Halo 3 back to chess; a much simpler formula where your ranking ALWAYS goes up when you win and the only person you can blame for not winning is you! Im sure it wont matter to bungie; whats the loss of one customer right? Its not a political thing, its just I want to see results for my time and energy, and if I dont.... its a waste of my time.

thanks for the info

Got the skills for the kills for the highlight reels!

Horrible, Modify Truskill for individual EXP gain/skill

I do great in my games, get 18-25 kills a game and low deaths, my teammates all suck and get horrible -10 KD ratios, they should go down, i should go up for getting MVP and a great streak...

>_<

Very informative. I still hate trueskill though. It shouldn't matter how good you used to be. Your trueskill should all be about how good you are now. Winning 10 matches in a row should make at least some effect on your rank. [...]
.

Add to that, a GOOD skill system would take into account how YOU PERSONALLY performed in every game WHETHER IT WAS A WIN OR A LOSS. Such a skill system would seperate the good from bad much faster and take away much of those annoyancies we experience with this implementation of Trueskill.

There are many powers in the world, for good or for evil. Some are greater than I am. Against some I have not yet been measured. But my time is coming.

Faster, maybe, more accurately, no. There is no hurry to assign players the proper skill level. It is not a race. The goal is to match players evenly, not provide players with some sort of linear accomplishment. By using wins as a measure, and combining that with the relative skill of your opponents, over the long term, you get a very accurate measure of ability.

No, this type of system would be a disservice to MM. It would allow players to go up for losing in a team game thus rewarding players for playing as individuals in a team game. Not to mention how hard it would be to qualify rewards for anything other than slayer type games. The bottom line is, playing a team playlist requires your team to win for you to gain anything from it. If you want to be rewarded for individual skill, play a FFA list. This is how it should be and if you think about it, is the right way to go. Yea it sucks to get nubs for teammates and lose but it IS a team playlist.

You do? Do you have any idea of how easy it is to elevate a medium skilled player with a couple of good players on a team? That's how most highly ranked players got their rank. Either that, LW or neg exp boost. Compare this to play randoms in team lists (which makes it almost impossible for ANYONE to rank up high,,, no matter skill). How does this provide accuracy at all? There's nothing wrong with Trueskill as a system, but this implementation is total fubar dude.
