Finally! Someone who can answer my question! But one other thing.... If I have a pretty good record in slayer (like i said earlier 84%) then the system expects me to win most of my matches. So won't this make it very hard to rank up since the system expects me to win most of my matches based on my record? The systems job is to find increasingly harder opponents until you either start losing about 50% of your games or get your 50. If you are winning more than you are losing, you will go up. It may take 5-10 games per skill level but you will go up. If you are winning consistently, the system is giving you harder and harder competition until you lose while at the same time raising your skill level. Once you start to lose and win equally, it has lowered your sigma significantly and makes it harder to gain skill levels by winning a few games in a row.
Think of it like being tested. If you win, you pass and the system gives you skill and only slightly lowers your sigma. Once you lose a few and fail the test, it knows you aren't that good so it lowers your sigma and keeps your skill level the same or lowers it. Once you get to that point, you have to prove the system has your skill level wrong and too low by winning consistently. If you do that (it may take 10 or more unpredicted wins in a row) it will slightly increase your sigma while raising your skill level. Many people think of this as rank locked but get enough of those wins in a row and the system realizes it is wrong about your skill level and you can begin to gain skill levels more quickly.
Again, this is a simplified explanation of everything that is going on with the skill system but it does give you a pretty good idea of what is going on. Hope this helps.
Winning games against peeps of equal or lower skill does very little for you. It's the games against peeps of higher skill you need to win in order to gain anything from it. Also, losing to people lower skill than you can set you back quite a bit while losing to people higher than you doesn't hurt that much. If you get 10 wins in a row against lower skilled opponents, you will get less gain than winning 5 in a row against higher skilled opponents. Everything depends on your opponents skill level. That is why there is no way to say how many games it will take to go up since we don't know what skill level your opponents will be.
