There are many powers in the world, for good or for evil. Some are greater than I am. Against some I have not yet been measured. But my time is coming.

You do? Do you have any idea of how easy it is to elevate a medium skilled player with a couple of good players on a team? That's how most highly ranked players got their rank. Either that, LW or neg exp boost. Compare this to play randoms in team lists (which makes it almost impossible for ANYONE to rank up high,,, no matter skill). How does this provide accuracy at all? There's nothing wrong with Trueskill as a system, but this implementation is total fubar dude.
Yes. If you only played with the same three guys who were better than you, would your rank get higher than it should? Absolutely. Remember, I said "over the long haul." Small game histories don't tell much.

This helped so much "deleted dude" thanks.
It was El Kalfungus or something close to that. He stopped posting on BNet a few months after creating this thread so he was eventually deleted. A few peeps have stuck around helping and answering questions to keep this valuable info alive.

*sigh* I kinda think its retarded that you can win four games and not rank up and then lose one game and rank down. I though that if it takes a awhile to rank up that it would take awhile to rank down.

Smerious!

Great post!

Yah great job. Now i completely understand the ranking system. Now it makes sense that i stayed at a 44 in lone wolves and started playing more social but when i came back to Lone wolves it took me about 7 games of winning first place to rank up

I don't get it... based on this explanation, you are encouraged to play streakily so your rank can go up. But what if your a beast and win 300 games in a row? According to this explanation your sigma would be REALLY low making it almost impossible to rank up. But that makes no sense. If your undefeated you should be able to easily rank up since the system should know that your very good and won 300 in a row right? For example, i've played maybe 150 team slayer games and have only lost around 25. That puts my WP% around 84%. Shouldn't I be able to rank up easily? It seems like this system is designed to punish those who are good and win consistently. Thoughts?

Rick James!!!

Finally an in-depth analysis cool! I hate kids who blame the ranking system for their suckage.

Winning 300 in a row would increase your sigma. The system arranges matches so you have a 50/50 chance of winning (ideally). If you are winning all of those, you gain MU (skill) and gain sigma (uncertainty) since the system doesn't expect you to win all of them.

If you win and lose predictably, you will have a low sigma. If you lose all or win all, your sigma will increase since this shows the system your current skill level is inaccurate.

This is generally speaking, there are some other factors at work like skill level of your opponents and match quality but for the most part, winning consistently will increase your sigma.

Finally! Someone who can answer my question! But one other thing.... If I have a pretty good record in slayer (like i said earlier 84%) then the system expects me to win most of my matches. So won't this make it very hard to rank up since the system expects me to win most of my matches based on my record?

The systems job is to find increasingly harder opponents until you either start losing about 50% of your games or get your 50. If you are winning more than you are losing, you will go up. It may take 5-10 games per skill level but you will go up. If you are winning consistently, the system is giving you harder and harder competition until you lose while at the same time raising your skill level. Once you start to lose and win equally, it has lowered your sigma significantly and makes it harder to gain skill levels by winning a few games in a row.

Think of it like being tested. If you win, you pass and the system gives you skill and only slightly lowers your sigma. Once you lose a few and fail the test, it knows you aren't that good so it lowers your sigma and keeps your skill level the same or lowers it. Once you get to that point, you have to prove the system has your skill level wrong and too low by winning consistently. If you do that (it may take 10 or more unpredicted wins in a row) it will slightly increase your sigma while raising your skill level. Many people think of this as rank locked but get enough of those wins in a row and the system realizes it is wrong about your skill level and you can begin to gain skill levels more quickly.

Again, this is a simplified explanation of everything that is going on with the skill system but it does give you a pretty good idea of what is going on. Hope this helps.

Winning games against peeps of equal or lower skill does very little for you. It's the games against peeps of higher skill you need to win in order to gain anything from it. Also, losing to people lower skill than you can set you back quite a bit while losing to people higher than you doesn't hurt that much. If you get 10 wins in a row against lower skilled opponents, you will get less gain than winning 5 in a row against higher skilled opponents. Everything depends on your opponents skill level. That is why there is no way to say how many games it will take to go up since we don't know what skill level your opponents will be.

LOL, real rap is not made for you, white people.

We don't expect you to "get it." And you don't, as you've made abundantly clear through your numerous embarrassing dances, karaoke performances, ignorant haters, and pitiful imitators.

You giving your opinion on rap is like a dog watching TV. It's kind of cute because it LOOKS like he knows what's going on, but you know he really has no actual ability to comprehend it.

nice post

I think it now works by playlist EXP and not total EXP. Once you get an officer rank in any playlist it will unlock the achievement along with the lightswitch achievement.
